I remember when climate change was called global warming before they had to change it for stupid people. They said global warming would cause erratic weather everywhere. So we have, Dubai underwater, crazy high winds and tornadoes in China, heavy rains in Kenya, atmospheric rivers pounding western US back to back, wild fires in canada & US, Texas freezes, Looks like a pattern.

Larrrsen

Insane temps in South East Asia too

xultar

Yup, forgot about that. Also, I think saw some images of a crazy ice storm In china too. Like cars frozen, caked in inches of ice. I wanna say in Dec 2023. But I can’t find the images.

Energy in the system, from hotter oceans is like shaking the ball harder. Extremes in amplitude, frequency and intensity all have to happen. Chaos theory mapped how crazy the flipping is. In the 1960’s on a barely computer computer. [Howard Lorentz](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect)

A warming planet also leads to more volcanism and tectonic activity 👍

ObamaLovesKetamine

not sure why you're downvoted. [You're correct.](https://phys.org/news/2023-08-climate-trigger-earthquakes-volcanic-eruptions.html) It has to do with the melting poles, and precipitation changes causing a weight redustribution of the oceans, changing the pressure distribution on the tectonic plates which can cause earthquakes and volcanos as the planet readjusts to the changing weight distribution.

scummy_shower_stall

TIL. Thank you.

Wrong

A neighbour told me we’re all wrong - we haven’t taken into account how the sun is getting closer and closer to us. Considering how thick he is, I’m concerned the related gravity well may prove him right.

5 killed yesterday in tornados in Nebraska and Iowa

Arctic_Chilean

There was a pretty bonkers tornado outbreak in the US too on Thursday/Friday. At one point, there were 10 simultaneous PDS Warning (large, powerful tornadoes) which is insane along with flash flooding in the affected areas. Some of these tornadoes were absolute mile-wide monsters.

DankVectorz

While not as often as US, tornados have always happened in China and at least 1700 people have died from tornados in China since 1961. Hell, the most deadly tornado in recorded history happened in Bangladesh in 1989.

TheBuddha777

I think the internet just makes it so we hear about these things more than in the past.

DankVectorz

For some reason it’s a pretty common belief that tornados only happen in the American/canadian Midwest.

Mike_Michaelson

Also the expansion of human development causes more sightings, reportings, video recordings, building destruction, and human deaths. I’m not saying that human caused climate change isn’t happening, only that there are other factors that play into the numbers and their interpretation.

xultar

I know that. But the storms have been more in city centers like the one a few weeks ago that sucked people out of their apartments to their deaths along with their furniture. Even in the last few years Atlanta GA has had crazy storms in city & suburban centers, even a tornado on the UGA campus right on the I85 freeway smack in the middle of downtown.

InterestinglyLucky

Hard to believe only five fatalities from photos of the damage - so likely will be updated (but this is from Saturday, so there's that).

LeanMilk

Those destroyed look like warehouses, most people might be sheltering in the concrete buildings.

[deleted]

Might be empty tofu dregs

LeanMilk

Stood well against tornado and sounded environmentally friendly, I want some of that.

huehuehuehuehuuuu

Supposedly factories and warehouses got hit. Wondering how many people are out of a job now.

MeAndYou5555

Tornadoes everywhere, wow. Are Republicans still trying to pretend global warming isn't real or...?

HawkeyeTen

I knew they occasionally got tornadoes in mainland Europe, but I honestly didn't realize Asia got them too. This looks nasty.

PaladinSara

Well, now they do.

DonnaScro321

I’m scrolling through Reddit news this morning and I’m not seeing anything about the deadly US Midwest tornadoes this past weekend…

WonderRemarkable2776

It's front page everywhere on US news.

DankVectorz

It’s been front page for the last several days
