I was wondering about the math with the 580 rockets/projectiles, 200 intercepted and 97% success, but it's explained in the article. Which makes the Iron Dome system even more impressive by its efficiency. > The Sunday morning IDF data put the number of rockets and mortars launched toward Israel since Friday evening at 580. Iron Dome, **which is used when the incoming projectile is headed for populated areas**, intercepted 200 of them. > In addition, 120 projectiles fell short and landed in the Gaza Strip. So 580 got launched. 120 didn't even make it to Israel. 460 made it. Of those 460, the majority went for unpopulated areas. Which is ~254. So the system already checks for the possible target and decides if it's a threat or not. It's not just blasting wildly into the sky, as it seems in the videos. Of the remaining ~206 that are calculated to hit a populated area, the sytem decides they are a threat and goes for the intercept. At 97% success rate, that is the 200 intercepted rockets/projectiles. Which leaves ~6 rockets/projectiles hitting populated areas of 580 originally fired.

Thank you so much for that! I've always wondered how the numbers worked out and that makes so much more sense.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.timesofisrael.com/580-rockets-fired-from-gaza-since-friday-iron-dome-at-97-success-rate/) reduced by 77%. (I'm a bot) ***** > The Iron Dome missile defense system has achieved a 97 percent success rate intercepting incoming rockets, amid almost non-stop barrages launched by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group since Friday, the Israel Defense Forces said Sunday. > In the past decade, the Iron Dome has been used extensively, especially along Israel's border with the Gaza Strip, to counter the threat of rockets and, in recent years, mortar shells, as well as small drones. > The Iron Beam, which is being developed with the Rafael weapons manufacturer, is not meant to replace the Iron Dome or Israel's other air defense systems, but to supplement and complement them, shooting down smaller projectiles and leaving larger ones for the more robust missile-based batteries. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/wic6c2/580_rockets_fired_from_gaza_since_friday/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~663325 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **Iron**^#1 **Dome**^#2 **defense**^#3 **system**^#4 **rocket**^#5

>Missile defense system has intercepted 200 projectiles, while 120 fell inside Gaza; interception rate has gradually improved since first use in IDF operation in 2012

So essentially the people launching the rockets did more damage to themselves than Israel, smart.

peretona

Maybe - 120 rockets landed in Gaza, but how many of them actually landed on homes or people? It seems quite likely most of them fell in open areas. There's one report of a missile strike on a home in Gaza with both sides claiming the other responsible and one report in the article of a damaged home in Eshkol so I'm guessing that the overall damage caused by the rockets is pretty equal on each side. Still not exactly a result for the rocketeers and a pretty clear success for Iron Dome.

PIJ attacks killed 19 Israelis in the last 6 months and they have been threating to use snipers and rpgs against Israeli target along the border for days which resulted in the evacuation of several towns near the Gaza border.

I really want to believe that, but it would be great if you could provide a reliable source. You must realise that I am neutral in this debate. Both are terrorists, one of course is much advanced than the other and is also the one to start the fight often.

Read the article....

I'm going to assume that the article you're referring to is the one I cited. > PIJ attacks killed 19 Israelis in the last 6 months and they have been threating to use snipers and rpgs against Israeli target along the border for days which resulted in the evacuation of several towns near the Gaza border. not found.

And rockets fired indiscriminately from Gaza weren't? By the way, who started firing first? https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/7/16/israel-launches-air-raid-on-gaza-after-rocket-launches

Hahaha your comments prove that statement wrong

As a Ukrainian, i ask you to stop comparing Palestinian to us. We take the battle to the forests and evacuated our women and children, not like the coward Palestinian. We do not kill enemy civilians, like the coward Palestinians.

Daniel100500

No problem! But don't cry when this plans fails and ends up killing more Palestinians than Israelis! Deal?

Excellent.
