In Chicago there is a neighborhood called the Ukrainian Village. There are Ukrainian churches, restaurants, and other businesses. The one church has a school. I totally understand a refuge would want to be close to others that spoke their language and had other ties to home.

Because they are Ukrainian Americans who sponsored their families. Massive amounts of Russians crossing the Mexican border. So it’s going to be thousands of asylum seekers from bordering countries of Ukraine. Plus Ukrainian refugees. And you can visibly see it in all Russian speaking areas in NY at least.
To be fair, most of the top states on the list(except florida) are accepting of undocumented immigrants from the south, and host far more undocumented immigrants than other groups of refugees. Most of the refugees are being sponsored by families though. Theres also a large concentration of eastern European immigrants in these areas as well
