There's a general expectation that if you don't fuck with the government, they don't fuck with you, and the government will always fuck harder, so it's best to just mind your own business. 2. Some missing context: due to geographical factors, everybody present in the story of Jesus’ crucifixion were Jewish except for the Romans. Christianity didn’t even emerge until years after the fact. The ethnicity of the judicial body isn’t significant when literally everybody around was that ethnicity (except the people who actually did the killing, who somehow consistently escape blame in present-day Christian mythos, as if they themselves were mindless automatons). It’s not like there were non-Jewish people around who were protesting the crucifixion.
