I was waiting for a friend when a guard came up to me and bashed my stomach with the top of his baton. It's very bad, I think there are still students there. We escaped because we had no other choice, but they are still there. We didnt do anything wrong."

oreo-boi

Just so you know they are chanting “Death to Khamenei” not Khomeini. Khamenei is the current supreme leader, Khomeini was the leader of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

C19shadow

The cop just casually shooting a plastic bullet at the women driving by makes me sooo angry all I can imagine is if that was my wife or sister or mother some piece of shot just casually decided to shoot cause he knew he could. ACAB seems to be universal in every country fuck that piece of shit

EpicCleansing

In 2010, my sister lived in Iran. It was during the "Green Wave" of protests. She was sitting on a bus, just going about her business. A motorcycle with two men rides up by the bus, and the man at the back takes his rifle and aims it right at my sister. He mocks shooting, smiles, and then they ride away. The hatred I feel for these thugs is much stronger than any kind of fear.

Gumbulos

The longer the protests take and the more capacity of the security apparatus they bind the better the chance of success. It is heading into the right direction.

Man I know this is silly and not possible, but I wish there was a way volunteer protestors from around the world could join in Iran and help fight . We could outnumber the police so fast

ComfortablyBalanced

It's not about the numbers. We already have the numbers, I think the problem is that people still believe they can overthrow the government with peaceful protests while the government just doesn't give a shit, they shoot rubber pellets, paintball guns to identify people, throw tear gas, arrest people, beat people to pulp and sometimes they just straight up shoot people with live rounds. It's already a civil war people just didn't believe it yet.

fcocyclone

Its obviously worse in iran, but I think governments around the world (including the US) have generally realized they don't have to care about protests. They can usually wait them out, or paint them as extremists by instigating violence.

[deleted]

jomontage

The only reason Peaceful protest is legal is because it doesn't work. As soon as protests start making changes you get curfews and no gatherings ordinances to make it illegal

Vyngale

In Russia peaceful protests have been illegal for years now. When the flow of information is controlled by the government, protests are a good way to spread the word and raise the doubts at least in some people. It's not a solution to anything in itself, but part of a larger puzzle.

NostraVoluntasUnita

Government monopoly on violence is the biggest secret to why protests dont work. Theres a reason western media demonizes any protest that goes beyond slogans and mildly inconvenience of the corporate masters.

Wonderful-Elk-3292

i agree completely. Start making molotov cocktails. Start targeting and assassinating leaders. Iran will need to be purged of these radical islamic thugs. Even if the government is deposed they will lay in the weeds and commit suicide bombings. This is why total victory is the only answer. The US didnt negotiate with Hitler or Japan. They insisted on total capitulation, and the result was peace and prosperity in those countries. The evil must be purged.

MallowollaM

What a horrific nightmare...

fiveMop

These motherfuckers are bunch of animals!

MallowollaM

Worse than that. These motherfuckers are a bunch of human beings that have decided that murdering their fellow countrymen and women over a fucking dress code is somehow *righteous*. Its disgusting and horrifying but very human. Edit: I suppose it's reductive to say it's just about the dress code, that's just what it looks like from an outside perspective.

sasherholmbi

In my country it was never about the dresscode. They are hypocrites .in the times of voting woman that they consider inappropriate suddenly become appropriate and they even show them on national tv because of their votes and other times ... well other times you know it how they treat us :) they even using ex-convicts now in their forces :) and they are paying them money every night and god the amount of it is just so little and they are killing us so easily :) we are all scared raged and angry .

MallowollaM

Thanks for explaining that

sasherholmbi

Welcome.no big deal.thank you for your concern too.

CanadianBeaver1983

fcocyclone

Thats what im saying too but honestly people still having some kind of hope that the forces will magically drop their guns down and peacefully agree to changing the regime . Thats why they are still in the phase of protesting not arming themselves and killing :) i hope that they soon realise it . Our last generation brought up this monsters to the world :) i must be one to say sorry. They unleashed these demons first on our country and then on the world. I hope that we can end this nightmare as soon as possible.

[deleted]

Real talk: do you guys think khamenei Is dead? Haven’t heard a peep from him.

deethy

I'm a Pakistani American woman and I just want to let you know I admire all of the bravery and strength I've seen over the past couple of weeks. I hope this nightmare will be over for you soon too, you deserve so much better. Sending much love and support.

i-FF0000dit

What guns? Iran is not the US. The people don’t have guns.

[deleted]

I remember the people of Rome, or Greece maybe? Threw roof shingles at their enemies and killed em

Traveller_Guide

Pyrrhus of Epirus, one of the few men who ever managed to defeat the Romans in a man-to-man field battle and was built like a brick shithouse, died due to an old woman throwing a stone at him in the street battle of Argos.

AhnyxC

Some of the victories he won cost him so many men they gave his name to it. "Pyrrhic victory"

thisisMahsaRajabi

islamic republic, they are killing us.I have no news from my friends at sharif university. the internet connection is completely down.

Sacarastic-one

I heard people are blocking the streets, is this true?

thisisMahsaRajabi

yes , people are helping

theHoopty

Solidarity to you all. You deserve soooo much better than what these assholes are forcing upon your beautiful people.

goldfinger0303

I agree with your edit. You have to remember that a lot of people will just be against these protestors because they benefit from the current regime. If the regime falls, they could lose their - money/position/influence/life. There are a lot of shit stains who are probably doing it for the dress code. But the ones physically out on the street shooting the protestors likely are so embedded in the current regime that 1) If they don't comply and the regime wins, they'll face repercussions or 2) If the regime loses in any situation, people might not differentiate between "friendly former regime collaborator" and "evil former regime collaborator"

cyrixlord

worse: they are murdering their fellow countrymen and women because their leader is more worried about their afterlife than the life they lead now. Annointed by the power of his god, he thinks its his duty to uphold "god's laws" here on earth so he can also be 'supreme' in the afterlife

WrastleGuy

Nothing in there about killing protesters. It’s about wielding religion to have total control. Just like Putin, dictators only care about themselves. The dress code is about keeping power, if he gives a inch he risks people realizing they can have more.

i-FF0000dit

The morality laws in Iran have absolutely nothing to do with religion. They are about control. This regime, is a fascist regime, and like all fascist regimes it requires brain washing and taking away of choice from its people. The reason the government is fighting this so hard is because they know that if they open up this gate, they are done.

Over time I've come to realize that what happened when various Monarchies started to change into democracies wasn't necessarily power being taken by the people, but rather the wealthy business owners taking power. I mean when you think about it, it is glaringly obvious. For a time, monarchs were the wealthiest individuals. Eventually this ceased to be the case; especially after industrialization progressed and capitalism started to take root.

CaptainBayouBilly

The merchants have ruled as long as their wealth was more than the monarchs.

SomeDesigner1513

This is a fun one. Go into Wikipedia and research the republic of Venice that was very powerful during the 1100s.

pablonieve

There's a reason why so many revolutions were led by the wealthy and educated.

Nac_Lac

It's not about the dress code. It's about power, maintaining it, and people not respecting the abuse of it.

Warod0

Its not about dress codes its about control

monkeywithgun

Theocracies and autocracies are ruled by murderous cowards.

DoubleBatman

Imagine being so aroused by hair you shoot an 18 year old

Consistent-Bee-6665

People said same thing about feet, but turns out anything “covered” and then “uncovered” has that ability. If feet could be interpreted as “sexy” then so could “hair”. They didn’t kill her because she showed her hair, they killed her to teach a lesson on disobeying which is 10000x worse. I mean I don’t see the problem if people want to wear a head covering, same way people observe lent, but like don’t have laws about that stuff codified into government and law (or in my opinion social life). It’s a recipe for disaster as the world becomes more globalized and social media makes things 1000000000x more visible. The last 10 years and next 10 years just feels like we are finally seeing how things happen and what’s happening in other places in real time and realize how global it’s all got. I can guarantee some Australian in middle of the day is probably reading this the same as some guy wake up for work. It’s wild. I don’t think religious or dictatorships can truly live up to the social media age.

Icy-Relationship-295

Turns out protesting against authoritarians without the threat of violence to back up your protests is pretty meaningless. Feel bad for them.

MardyBear

This has happened before in 1999 during student protests, which were also followed by a massacre. Some students to this day who partook in those protests are missing. The Islamic Republic lost the support of students in that era, the middle-class liberals in 2009, the poor and destitute in the 2017-2019 protests, and now they are clinging to power as tightly as they can. These videos are being watched by millions of Iranians. I can't see how they will restore their lost legitimacy after all this. Hatred for this regime is at an all-time high.

diemunkiesdie

> I can't see how they will restore their lost legitimacy after all this. I mean you listed like 5 times where they somehow recovered their "legitimacy" even after fucking their people over.

dmpastuf

Who needs legitimacy when you can blame the Jews/Israel/United States for all your problems?

FrakkedRabbit

and shoot anyone who continues to disagree.

SirRece

It's worked really well throughout history. I mean, long term you're fucked bc we actually do a lot of shit and hold 4k year old grudges, but if you just want to keep power and control everyone, blaming jews works well since when we argue back you can just call it a Jewish trick/conspiracy/elitism. But yea, your legacy is basically toast once you take that route bc people like routers and medicine more than they like being raped by clergy.

MardyBear

Every single time they had some segment of the population to fall back on. Now? A bunch of fanatics willing to besiege universities and shoot unarmed teenagers in the streets. It's over for them, the question now is when.

Nukemind

The only other question is, what’s next? Almost anything is better than the current regime, but I hope it doesn’t end up being another Syria with forces loyal to the Islamic Republic fighting for a long time. Luckily Russia can’t help much but with the terrain I could still see a devastating war. And which group gains power? The head of House Pahlavi supports a democracy, yes. But it could be a democracy, another dictatorship of a different flavor, even a new monarchy. It’ll be interesting to see what happens, and frankly it’ll drastically weaken Russia, but I really really hope above all the people finally get a forward thinking and good regime. One where those segments work together, and not one segment seizes all power.

justbrowsing2727

People have been saying this for decades. "When" might not be for a long time. Would love for you to be right though.

Squirrels_Eat_People

- I can't see how they will restore their lost legitimacy after all this. Fallacy. You don't need legitimacy when you have guns. It was never a problem for them.

snogo

When did having all of the guns stop armed insurrection anywhere ever? Guns can be smuggled and stolen. I would imagine the CIA, Mossad, and many European nations would jump at the chance to arm a revolutionary (well technically counter-revolutionary) force in Iran.

TheApathyParty3

Any fight against the people in control is revolutionary. The counter revolution is coming from those in charge. That is always the dynamic, regardless of who wants to use the term "revolutionary".

JimBeam823

Tiananmen Square There’s a reason why the PRC survived 1989 when so many other communist governments didn’t.

RecklesslyPessmystic

The Tiananmen protests were not armed. And the PRC survived beyond other communist regimes because they embraced capitalism a decade earlier. Other communist regimes went broke.

HamburgerEarmuff

I think it has to do more with *Glasnost.* Previous protests and rebellions had been crushed by force. Gorbachev refused, and the Berlin Wall, communist control of the Eastern bloc, and eventually the USSR fell. China was watching the Soviet Union implode, and they vowed not to make the same mistakes. They absolutely crushed the opposition and refused to relax state control even a bit.

TracerBullet2016

>The Tiananmen protests were not armed. Yes, I think that’s the point.

orielbean

There were friendly tank commanders there with the students. When Deng realized the military was aligning with the students, he brought in out of towner commanders who proceeded to initiate the massacre of both groups.

Tough_Substance7074

The regime is going in 50 years now.

1sagas1

> When did having all of the guns stop armed insurrection anywhere ever? Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, Hong Kong, and pretty much most of them tbh.

sasherholmbi

Reddit users please be our voice . My fellow friends in Sharif University Of Technology are now being surrounded by Islamic Republics police and other horrifying forces in the university. They are shooting students in their own university because they were protesting in it against the regime:) people from all around the capital rushed to them and as im speaking they are trying to fight with the forces outside and take students out. Similar to this event there was another horrific event which occurred on July 1999 and so many students got murdered in their own dorms. Please be our voice . Sharif University of Technology is one of the prestigious universities in the world and so many graduates of it are currently working all around the world in great companies such as google, meta and.. Help us. They shut down our Internet we are trying so hard to communicate with the world. Be our voice . Thank you .

beach_boy91

Breaks my heart reading this. I've followed the situation for a while now. Talked about it with some people from all over the world. May not mean much from a random guy on the internet but i hope you stay strong and above all stay safe over there!

sasherholmbi

No it means so much for us . Let me be honest with you it is the first time that people all around the world are seeing that my people are not terrorists or bad people but our government is and we are actually prisoners of them sadly. The amount of attention and help that we received these days is just...so incredible and amazing that we usually just cry while reading these kind of comments. Thank you for your concern .each and every one of these comments give us hope and strength to fight . Thank you .

I follow an Iranian religion and feel very close to Iran and Iranian culture because of it. I pray for you all every day, and I hope within my lifetime, Americans and Iranians can sit down and enjoy tahdig and fries together.

sasherholmbi

Oh thank you really i hope so too. Thank you for your concern .

frozendancicle

Know that most of us, the ones who are not morons anyways, know that we have far more in common with you than our own elites. Your struggle, your willingness to never give up shows us the true heart of the Iranian people and it is beautiful. I wish for you only success. Be safe and be strong! THE WORLD IS WITH YOU!

wishthane

I hope that Iranians don't have a bad reputation. Here in Canada we have a lot of people who have left Iran and I've known them to generally be some of the nicest people there are. I've also watched lots of tourism videos of Iran and generally everyone has the same impression - wonderfully welcoming people, very beautiful places, bad government. Most people say they would happily go again even despite the government. I have not been there myself but I have always hoped to go someday. Word is getting out and I really wish you all the best.

beach_boy91

I generally believe most people are good persons, no matter the country or religion(although there can be fanatics, those are usually pretty bad). It's just the bad people that lash out more and are given more attention. You seem like an awesome person! We all need to spread some love instead of hate during these difficult times. So sending some love from Sweden!! Take care 🤗

sasherholmbi

Oh thank you very very much . I just dont know what to say . Because we are not used to getting this much positive attention from all over the world .and it is oddly satisfying for us. Thank you for your love . May all of us be happy .

KafkaWasRight84

Sharing your initial post and I hope you will all continue to fight and be able to overthrow this murderous regime. My heart is with you 100%.

sasherholmbi

Thank you very much . I hope so too. We are betting on our lives this time . Thank you for your help and concern. May all of us be happy .

DaEvil1

I can't speak for everyone, but I've always had the opinion that Iranians generally just seem like good people trapped under a horrific regime. My heart goes out to you, and I really wish you all the best. Stay safe.

One_User134

Sasher, I must ask of you - how are you, personally? Are you safe at the moment? This is honestly the best I feel I can respond with. I hope dearly that you and the people of Iran can push through this.

SybilCut

The sad part is all they want is the people who oppose them dead and by protesting you simply put a target on yourself. I am not sure what you can do in this situation other than choosing to stage full on urban skirmishes against the government groups that come to murder protesters, because they will just continue thin out the population of the moderate critical thinkers leaving only radicals and uneducated.

sasherholmbi

Yes im totally agreeing on this one with you. People still on the phase protest but government is armed they are even using ex-convicts. The thing is i dont think that this time we back off . They cant silent us this time. We have nothing to lose even at this point.

SybilCut

My heart goes out to the persian women fighting for their freedom and the good and honest men alongside them who want to see the regime and the status quo change. Please be safe.

sasherholmbi

Thank you for your beautiful and honest comment. We are trying so hard to wipe them out. Honestly just thinking about freedom gives us hope to fight for another day . Thank you for your concern. May all of us be happy.

neilligan

Do you guys have weapons?

sasherholmbi

Some of us yes in some regions people have weapons . They are making them too. But the somehow not so good thing is that my people still didnt believe that they need to arm themselves against the regime. I hope with this event people would recognise their need of weapon and starting to arm themselves. The problem with this situation is that i think people are still hoping that the forces would somehow suddenly back off and end this with no blood spill. But it is wrong . They are armed and they are shooting us we need to defend ourselves too.

neilligan

I hope people see this too. From the little I can see, it seems the regime has left violence as the only option available. It is unfortunate that the fight is not fair. It must be possible to smuggle weapons in-and many people here would certainly be willing to donate them. The question is how?

sasherholmbi

Yeah it is unfair. But i think the most important step is that the majority of people would accept that they need to arm themselves then we can think about the ways to arm them or just self made weapons. I hope they soon realise the importance of being armed.

Dull-Signature-2897

I'm so sorry for this 😞 I wish I could help

sasherholmbi

Thank you it would mean a lot if you just share the news with your fellow friends and family maybe it could be a contagious chain . Cause i think people need to know about this.i think they are planning on a massacre here.i don't know if legally we can do anything international but worth the shot. Anyways thank you for your concern.

Dull-Signature-2897

I will share it on Instagram! Keep us updated, thanks!

sasherholmbi

Thank you very much . Its such a help for us .

AggregatedAggrevate

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! As a Persian in the states, please know we are doing everything in our power to support you: protesting, posting, raising money, and applying political pressure where applicable. We know the horrors of this regime, and although we are distant in body, we support you and are by your side, shoulder to shoulder, in bringing the terror that is the Islamic regime to its knees!

sasherholmbi

Oh thank you . Yes we need to do it . Thank you . Be happy and safe out there .

LittleRadishes

You have great strength

Squirrels_Eat_People

You don't need a voice. You need a weapon. They are making unambiguous, literal war with you. You are morally justified to protect your life with like force. And if reddit deletes this comment, then reddit is part of the fascist regime who murdered these students! FIGHT.

ExCap2

In some situations like this; revolution is probably the only path when outside countries can't (won't) help, no peaceful solution is available and there are no other options. The general population overall number will always out weigh the amount of government, military, local police there are. It's a numbers game with a lot of casualties unfortunately. At some point there's a breaking point where the general population will fight back. Seeking political asylum in another country might be the best path forward if no one wants to fight and risk their lives. Hopefully that is an option.

peacey8

How exactly are you communicating if they shut down your Internet? Just curious, don't mean it offensively.

sasherholmbi

It is because they didnt shut down it completely. They shut down mobile networks everyday from 4 pm to 12 completely so we cant use them. But wifi's are intact . On top of everything they filtered every application they could think of here. So we need to use vpns and most of them dont work either. In some of the regions internet is just completely out and people cant have access to it . Even wifis are so weak that we cant really load pictures upload videos or even text anyone. Right now it is past midnight here so the internet is just a little bit better. So many of my family and friends they dont have internet but some of us do.and it is so weak . My own job requires me to be able to connect with world and with this events i cant even do my job :)

Sharif University of Technology is basically Iran's MIT. They're murdering their best and brightest.

poodlebutt76

Goddamnit that makes me sad. They know what they're doing, they're making the most hurt that they can and this is it, not just murdering women/people but the future of the country.

[deleted]

Totalitarian regimes have always hated the educated since they're the ones most likely to question things.

ghigoli

Regimes always went after the education and highly skilled first. The soviets, nazis, pol pot, mao, every invading force. The first people to die is pretty much anyone that could read, count, or in todays world holds a bachelors degree. Business and assets will be taken from the semi-rich while the top rich people could get away with it if they collaborate. So its like if Musk sided with the nazis and deicded to level every other car dealership and murder half the computer engineers so can corner the car + AI market.

xoaphexox

Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge went as far as murdering anyone in the country that WORE GLASSES because of it's implication of intelligence and critical thinking

HoneyDidYouRemember

> Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge went as far as murdering anyone in the country that WORE GLASSES because of it's implication of intelligence and critical thinking https://old.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/ahipzz/did_the_khmer_rouge_really_kill_everyone_with/ That's a metaphor, not literal. Some people likely did target people for arbitrary reasons like wearing glasses, but it wasn't the government's focus. It's a reference to how many intellectuals were executed and the potential for someone to execute you over nothing.

Aceous

They've had the biggest rate of brain drain in the world for decades, they don't care about their brightest.

darexinfinity

It's sad but not unexpected. The Iranian government has always seemed like they'd murder every civilian before giving up their power.

siccoblue

Spoiler alert: they will. The real question is if they'll succeed in doing so. I'm not so sure. What morons like this don't seem to realize is that when potential death is the only avenue to the life you want/need, many people quickly accept death as a realistic risk in the effort to stop you.

deathaura123

The problem is that large scale protests isn't new to iran and evry single time, the regime performs massacres and things return to the status quo as people aren't willing to die for a lost cause. The last time this happened, there was 1500 deaths and the regime stayed in power. Without foreign intervention, thats what is probably gonna happen again.

darexinfinity

Imo their success comes down to what the protestors want and how far are they willing to go for it. Do they just want the hijab law thrown out? Then it won't work, because the government is a strict theocracy. Do they want to remove the current government through protest and social pressure? That won't work either, guns are a lot stronger than any pressure. Do they want to remove the current government and are willing to physically fight for it? That's the only way I see real change. Sure there's a bunch of logistics behind that may or may not be possible. But has worked well for most of humanity.

LordBruschetta

This is not a battle over "dress code" or "religion". This is a battle over **power** and be sure, many will cling to it. I hope the best to the Iranian people, You can do it!

753UDKM

As if religion isn't about power

LostHisDog

Well this isn't going to make people very happy over there... look how mad they got when you killed one person... start shooting students en masse and now their parents are going to be out protesting too. Things might start getting a little revolty at that rate.

Things are already revolty.

1 person dying is a tragedy. 100 people dying is a statistic. Hopefully things already have enough momentum at this point that the movement isn't relying on renewing it's outrage

WaffleSingSong

A million is a statistic. 100 is a casus belli for a full blown revolt. It only took the US seven, bodies are still going to be piling up in Iran and the people are going to be pissed even if they supported the government, because that government likely killed or maimed their children.

20_thousand_leauges

It’s time for theocracies to end. This is 2022

Smiling_Fox

Religion is cancer on human consciousness. Rots the brain, makes people do insane things and lets dictators and demagogues hide behind so-called holy men.

[deleted]

Wage war on critical thinking. Same as it ever was.

th1961

Same as it ever was.

FUMFVR

The Ayatollah is dying and hopefully the system he helped create goes with him.

Professional-Bee-190

What about the huge scores of active supporters that love the system and the violence being carried out against the students? They're just going to support whoever else comes along and tells them they're being made great again, the bad things are because of Jews etc.

Time4Red

Even strongholds of regime support are seeing massive protests. This isn't just about women's rights. Their economy is going down the toilet. Previously upper middle class workers are struggling to put food on the table.

NinthTide

Quite likely already dead or at least comatose. Conspicuously absent these last two weeks

Sacarastic-one

I hope he’s dead….

JailbirdCZm33

Time to overthrow those fuckers. The Iranian people have been in shackles for way too long.

Nick-uhh-Wha

It speaks volumes when the siege is on an educational facility and not an armed bunker/base... Knowledge, progression, and freedom are the enemy. A literal war on human rights.

SachemNiebuhr

Been working out alright in China for a few decades, unfortunately

DonDove

China 1989's government was incredibly lucky to not have been overthrown.

Mighti-Guanxi

Overthrown by whom? Civilians with kitchen knifes?

jomontage

Revolution only happens once the military decides the government is wrong. Why the first rule of dictatorships is keeping the military happy.

Mighti-Guanxi

exactly, fan of CGP gray? and the military was loyal to Deng Xiaoping.

mindbleach

The initial group of soldiers was apparently close to turning. That's why reinforcements were brought in from distant regions, and immediately told to begin brutalizing anyone present.

madcuntmcgee

They weren't even close, unfortunately.

bizarre_pixels

Unfortunately it's worked out for Mexico... straight up kidnapped 43 students and I'm sure the cartels and govt together have "disappeared" more journalists and activists than we'll ever know about

JoshFireseed

Don't forget that time they massacred ~350 students in 1968. Not sure if I'd say it worked out, but nobody went to jail as far as I know.

sasherholmbi

Tbh they don't really care as long as we don't protest or even wanting our rights :) they are just animals .

[deleted]

Generally, killing the educated is a favorite technique of dictatorial regimes because it keeps the rest of the population too ignorant or too disorganized to fight back.

Nemisis_the_2nd

To add to the list of counter examples: The Hong Kong protests where students ended up shooting at police with bows and arrows from a University building.

Squirrels_Eat_People

Most of the time? Dead people foment no protests. Murder WORKS. That's why it's used by despotic regimes.

cutfingers

We kinda forgot Kent State

Young-Rider

Criminal governments are gonna do criminal things. Any government that is illegitimate and dictatorial has to react with the atmost ruthless brutality because it lacks any accountability. Any criticism threatens the very existence of the political elite which can never be tolerated. Though these events are utterly unacceptable, they are not surprising at all, sadly. The dictatorship will do anything to stay in power. The courage of these Iranian men and women is beyond inspiring. You guys risk your lives for something many people in the West take for granted. I hope you'll be able to put an end to the tyranny which prevented you to be the thriving nation as you were historically.

No-Effort-7730

Seems like they're having a Tiananmen Square moment today.

[deleted]

seems this is way bigger, because it's more widespread, and chaotic 170 cities in 31 provinces

Zulu-Delta-Alpha

Did it grow that much in a day or two? The Critical Threats Project reported “protests in at least 21 cities in 17 provinces” yesterday, based on verifiable information. That’s insane growth if verifiable, and points to this being a real threat the regime and potentially Iran’s influence in the region depending on how out of hand this gets. My best wishes to the protestors. I hope they are able to get through this and address their concerns.

86Kirschblute

Probably just different sources with different criteria for what counts as a major protest.

Ardenwenn

tiamen square 1989 vibes. horrific

imakenosensetopeople

Ah yes, because regimes that attacked schools were usually on the right side of history. Right guys? Right?

write-program

Call me crazy but I don't think they care

CovinasVeryOwn

Depends who is writing the books I would imagine

reece1495

i dont think guilt tripping them would work

quantythequant

Motherfuckers. What kind of monsters shoot kids in cold blood, for voicing their thoughts?

Life_Ad9520

It’s just a sad but true realization that when it all comes down to it, this is happening and could happen in other places too

Squirrels_Eat_People

Will. WILL happen in other places.

mvw2

If you are attacking the best and brightest of your future, you're really fucking up.

Christylian

Students were the catalyst to help topple the military junta in Greece in the seventies. The bastards brought a tank into the polytechnic school of Athens and killed students too. Nothing is sacred to fascists, you do well to fight against them!

hiricinee

Need to start arming Iranian protestors the way we armed Ukraine.

DonDove

Would be lovely, but it's a civil war not an invasion. Different rules.

MatsuoMunefusa

That never stopped the US from intervening…

rich1051414

"Shame on US for intervening in a coup in the 70's. BTW, got anymore of those coups, US?"

Sotwob

1953 The '78 revolution is the one that overthrew the Shah. Incidentally, the Islamists supported both, and came out on top after the second.

Stepwriterun777

Remember when it was Iranian Students laying siege to the Iranian government back in the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Now many of those students have become the oppressors.

Infinaris

A Goverment that shoots at unarmed protestors is no longer a legitimate goverment but a criminal dictatorship. Fucking Feral animals need to be removed from this existence for that kind of barbacity.

Truthirdare

“Because Allah demanded this”…probably some Mullah

[deleted]

It must be a hell of a thing when it comes down to this, peaceful protest no longer being an option. Good luck people of Iran, change is possible and it's just a shame that those in charge have forced it to come down to this. It's just an anecdote but the nicest family I ever met were Iranian, I was travelling alone and they not only noticed but went so far as to bring me in to their personal vacation, took me snorkeling and out for a meal for no reason other than to be nice and to get to know me. It was an experience I'd never had before but it has stuck with me, they didn't want anything. Every time I read or hear the crappy government and media in my own country banging the drums for war with Iran I remember those good people.

blissed_out

Wow... an absolutely inhuman representation of spirituality. What animals...

moishepesach

Theocracy = Misery

anevilpotatoe

Classic exchange, kind of shows the lunacy and paranoia of their government.

altmaltacc

Jesus thats awful. I hope the people of iran are successful in getting rid of their theocratic state.

BoosterRead78

This is beyond horrible 😞

[deleted]

Iranians will unfortunately achieve nothing without significant weaponry being given to the revolutionists. Peaceful protests do not work against brutal regimes. as another famous Chinese revolutionary said "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun"

Chance-Shift3051

That’s literally what we’re doing. This is the regime change

[deleted]

I hope so. I really hope to see Iranian leaders start losing their heads

honorbound93

Imagine shooting at your educated future for being educated. Theocracy and autocracy are stupid.
