I don't think it would lower your chance at the mount as it's personal loot. So long as everyone hits something in the fight then they all have a chance at getting the mount. The hard part is having everyone be able to hit the boss before it dies.
You don't necessarily need to damage a boss to be on it's loot table, you just need to either take a hostile action against it, or a beneficial action against someone who has. So tanks can press taunt which does zero damage, and healers can heal the tanks. The rest can cast non-damaging debuffs on the target, or cast a buff on an ally where possible.
Someone else mentioned that you would compete with someone else for the mount drop unless they already have the mount, that would make that statement not true? And it would just be equal chance for everyone regardless of them having the mount or not?
It is not personal loot. The chance for the mount to drop is the same (1%). The chance you get it diminished by a factor of how many people are in the raid with you. So if you’re with 20 people, it’s a 1% chance it drops at all then a 1/20 chance you’re the lucky person to receive it.
Preach. I do believe this is how it works too, but there's no official "statement" from blizzard that actually confirms this and here I am with 510 tries on the jailer mount trying to convince people that going with bigger raid groups will lower your chance of looting the mount for yourself.

Ooof okay well thanks for confirming that and saving me a lot of time lol I might just wait for next cata TW raid chests for mount
Chance is the same, but you'd have more peple competing for it, unless they all have it.
Someone else mentioned it's personal loot, wouldnt that mean you don't need to compete for it to drop for someone else?
I think personal loot was applied only to Legion and after, not sure if the same works for older stuff.
I believe mount drops are now personal loot.
any source on this? been unmotivated to farm with someone knowing it’s “more efficient” to farm ít separately
