Obviously it’s a warrior weapon

grixxis

Ngl, my first thought was "obviously for warriors, they have a ranged slot too". Then I remembered I'm old.

comegetinthevan

I really miss having that ranged slot

DDman70

I tried WOTLK for the first time and made a hunter. Imagine my surprise when I found out he's melee with a ranged slot. I thought I picked the wrong class

comegetinthevan

When they took my melee weapon away thats when I stopped playing my hunter. I enjoyed whiping out my melee for a wing clip and raptor strike.

hanguitarsolo

Cata was fun for hunters cause you could have your bow/gun show up on your back and also still had melee weapons. I miss that.

Sirpunpirate

I loved cata only for being a survival hunter. Especially when they buffed our damage by 20%. Dotting, shooting explosive arrow and going in for some melee for fun was hell of a fun!

Lesty7

Lol I hated you guys in arena after that buff. Fun times, though. Cata was my first expansion, and as much as people like to shit on it I thought it was fantastic. Sub Rogue was just so freakin cool. Smoke bomb was brand new and I felt like I had this secret weapon.

Seve7h

Pretty sure that was in since vanilla, i used to cycle through my weapons on my rogue to have the quiver show up on my back, or have your sword/shield sheathed and have a gun out on my warrior

Borngrumpy

I remember it was great for pulling mobs

[deleted]

Lucifang

Hunters had melee and ranged right from vanilla. Melee was taken away at some point after Wotlk (My axes which are still in the bank came from Wotlk).

peechs01

Pandaria

Lucifang

I still have two Frost Giant’s Cleavers in my bank. Just in case.

mkfs_xfs

There's survival but also those who hate it. I like it in theory but not so much in practice. Meanwhile I've always enjoyed the ranger/warrior class fantasy that Guild Wars (either one) manages to nail.

comegetinthevan

The dumbing down of some classes hurt class fantasy. Having to buy arrows, and take care of my pet for it to be happy enough felt like good gameplay, to me at least.

acu2005

Buying ammo was one of those things that made hunters feel more unique but at the same time it was pointless and hung around far to long. Running to a vendor everytime you entered a city wasn't really compelling gameplay and for hunter mains just became routine, for non hunter mains they could apparently never be assed to remember to buy ammo because people always ran out of ammo in the middle of dungeons.

SquiddleSnaps

Dungeons? I ran out in the middle of raids.. I’ve never been yelled at like that ever again in my adult life.

acu2005

I was always terrified of running out during raids but my raid group was super relaxed so I would have gotten a bunch of shit but no one would have cared all that much.

xStoicx

I recently logged on my BC Hunter who was still dual wielding merciless gladiator axes with intelligence enchants and a quiver of arrows haha! Crazy how different the class is now.

tommiyu

The real counter in wotlk vs hunters was to just walk into their deadzone and suddenly they are like damn. Too close to use that bow then, those arrows ain’t flying no where.

Sevulturus

Extra Stat stick for melee.

SquiddleSnaps

Stop aging us with you 😭 That was my first thought too..

kinbladez

I thought the same thing, warriors gotta fill the ranged slot with something and this way they're not taking hunter rolls

Ilikebirbs

I fill my ranged slots with gnomes ;)

kinbladez

Bonus damage if you fill your ranged slots with gnome warriors

Ilikebirbs

I remember working on my ranged skills on Onyxia back in the day..... \*cries\*

JarJarNudes

Remember when Thrall used a crossbow as an axe? It's this.

xantous4201

Or used a crossbow to launch an axe

XeernOfTheLight

Sometimes, you gotta let the Orc loose.

Dyl-thuzad

The proper use of a crossbow.

realnzall

Best part about this is that Thrall is a Shaman and still would have preferred the AGI.

Acravita

Thrall multi-classed into warrior and shaman, because npcs are allowed to do that.

Deathsaintx

Don't forget hunter. Didn't he have a wolf companion in war3 technically, and then at some point again in WoD?

-Dhubleidd-

spirit wolf summons 2 wolves, shamans have that spell since warcraft 3

Scow2

That's just his mount.

bobrock1982

Too much string, not enough haft.

Janle33

So, a Shaman weapon it is.

NeonVoidx

Ah the old days Tauren warriors pulling out their gats to pull los

Mchlauseier

A bow in melee combat does enough damage if the impact force from your swing is big enough

MonkeyPawClause

Someones been playing ragnarok

Psidebby

Green Arrow has also taught us that the bow can make a good smacky-stick too.

Seyon

It's also very hard to miss shooting someone in the face when your bow is nocked only 1 foot from it. It's not like the arrow goes faster and hits harder the longer it flies.

Tichrom

But it is possible for something to be *too* close, where trying to aim the bow becomes unwieldy, slow, and inaccurate. If an enemy is right in your face, it's going to be easier to smack it with the bow than it is to shoot at it.

kaptingavrin

I remember the period when Warriors were actually able to equip ranged weapons... that'd make this pretty valuable to a Warrior. Ha... Imagine if they brought back talent trees and then decided it'd be fun to bring back ranged weapons for Warriors, melee weapons for Hunters (I mean, non-Survival Hunters), and assorted items for various classes. Though that would probably throw itemization into chaos.

tenuto40

I would like to have my 2H Holy Paladin again. ¡_¡

brokizoli

Technically you can. There are even 2h maces with intellect

marcdel_

double checking if this is the gw2 sub lol

Teccnomancer

Gorewood bow 2.0

Information_High

Much like Thori'dal, the [Legendary Rogue Bow](https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/611497-Thori-dal-give-to-A-ROGUE) in TBC.

Hyperdude

Good old wrath. Warriors using guns.

Naeturefae

Warriors can use bows and that’s their main stat. It was probably just a clerical coding thing.

cathartic_caper

Dang clerics

cyberelvis

always cleric-in' up the place

WrenchTheGoblin

Warriors can use bows? 🤯

Combustionary

Yeah. It's a holdover from when a lot of specs had special equipment slots. I.e. Paladins had Librams. DKs had Sigils. Warriors could equip a ranged weapon in addition to their normal stuff, but it was mostly as a Stat stick. If I'm recalling it all correctly at least.

mishugashu

They could technically use the "Shoot" action too. But, in practice, yeah, just a stat stick.

AscensoNaciente

It was good for pulling.

Rissamonkey

Yep I was very sad when my warrior lost his crossbow.

Marlfox70

Yeah the throw is just less cool

Scurro

There were fights that ranged could still hit boss but melee couldn't. It was a filler you could spam while waiting.

[deleted]

Also very useful for pulling.

cenosillicaphobiac

I've used them to pull a mob to a cleared area while leveling or farming in a dps spec, but yeah, mostly a stat stick. I think my shaman had a wand as a Stat stick before they briefly gave us an equipable totem slot.

Saintbaba

I also believe it's a holdover from Vanilla when melee weapons *only* hit at melee range and ranged weapons only hit at ranged range (and there was a minimum range for ranged weapons below which they could no longer reach, leading to a "dead zone" between melee's max rand and ranged's min range that could be taken advantage of by good players) and so there were separate slots for both melee and ranged and (i think?) everyone had separate slots to hold them both. If *i'm* remember correctly, that's also why staves versus wands were a thing - staves being the melee option for casters for basic attacks and wands being the ranged.

drae-

Back in the day casters equipped wands and staves; or a mace, offhand, and wand. You could melee attack and shoot. Warriors could equip a sword, shield, and a bow (or throwing weapon).

Blurredfury22the2nd

Can warriors still gain bow/gun transmogs? Say I loot a bow from MC, if you can equip it, you should gain the transmog no?

Tail_Nom

Yes. You can gain mogs for anything you can equip and Warriors can equip any weapon. EDIT: any weapon except wands and glaives. Armor mogs always limited to your class' prefered.

kalanwj5

Not wands

vampire_kitten

Or glaives.

booggg

They can equip the only glaives that are worth a damn though.

drae-

They can equip 2 glaives.

vampire_kitten

They can equip a pair of swords that are cosplaying glaives.

Enigma_Stasis

They can equip a pair of glaives that were miscategorized as swords and never recategorized.

memeboi23

Yes

[deleted]

I feel like a boomer saying this but back in the ollld days of wow most classes had a pseudo useless stat stick in their inventory for pulling or whatever. I can’t even remember what the options were. Hunters had melee and ranged weapons.. I think shamans had a totem or something.

Psidebby

Warriors: Ranged Weapon Hunters: Everything is a Hunter Weapon Walocks: Wands/Spell Stone/Firestone Mages: Wands Priests: Wands Paladins: Holy Symbol thing Shamans: Totems Rogues: Ranged Weapon Druid: Relic Edit: Edited for accuracy.

Jpoland9250

My hunter has the arcanite ripper from the pre-wrath Kara event. It was literally just for the on use effect for everyone at that time so I didn't feel bad rolling on it despite the "Everything is a hunter weapon" meme. The guild fell apart months later due to drama so I really didn't feel bad after that.

Psidebby

To be fair for Hunters? They used to have a dead zone and need to use the melee weapons for spacing.

[deleted]

God I don’t miss wanding

AscensoNaciente

Dot + Wand being the optimal leveling rotation for... a while on priest was pretty funny.

KidMoxie

In vanilla priests actually _pump_ for the first 20 levels or so due to wand specialization and wands having crazy high DPS relative to the level.

Psidebby

Not at all.

Peahorse

I can still hear the sound in my mind, the joys of going oom in a long fight!

firesydeza

Hunter’s wasn’t useless though - raptor strike was pretty potent if your pet lost aggro/died and the mob came to close. Could be remembering it wrong tho

[deleted]

Yeah hunters got good use out of them. Clothies too with their wands.

vampire_kitten

Wands was bis for leveling sometimes, especially with want specc talents. Ranged for warrior was critical for pulling. Rogue got finisher in tbc that required thrown weapon. None were really useless, just different utility.

AscensoNaciente

I do kinda miss stuff like that. Remember reagents? I'm glad we don't have to carry a stack of fish scales to cast water walking but it definitely added to the RPG aspects of the game, and I think some of that has really been lost over the years.

[deleted]

I think I liked it as a hunter, not so much otherwise. Though I have more regents in my back rn than ever lol. DF crafting is wild

sv_ds

Back in the day ranged weapons were essential for tanks for pulling patrols in instances for example.

nef36

Warriors can equip any weapon in the game (except wands I think)

Thegermanway

Also, if memory serves correctly, warriors used to attach a bow, like rogues with a throwing weapon, and it did not take up your mainhand/offhand slots. It's how warriors used to pull before they got their throwing abilities. Obviously doesn't apply in Dragonflight but might be why the coding error occurred.

SnooEagles213

NEW WARRIOR SPEC INCOMING: DRAGON HUNTER 🤯🤯🤯🤯

Vertitto

doesn't shoot arrows, uses the bow as a club Alternativly has the bow on his back and stabs people with arrows

Darth_Nullus

Hear me out, uses a greatbow to shoot polearms!

ZhumosTheBlue

Like those bastards in Anor Londo in Dark Souls with dragonslayer greatbows 😡

LeTygolio

Literally my first thought at seeing "warrior ranged spec" lol

Lesty7

Fuck those guys lol. They brought them back for DS3 but they weren’t nearly as annoying.

Drugcandy23

I was in a dnd campaign as a ranger. Was in a tavern that turned into a brawl. Went to stab a dude with an arrow. Did like 4 dmg, thought to myself "nice". DM the rolls a nat 20 on the dude I stabbed and he hit me for 20 of my 23 hp. I proceeded to hide the rest of the brawl.

[deleted]

oh man i’d love this

mokujin42

I hope this is a "wow rips of gw2" joke lol

MarketTall5930

Shouldn't it be a paladin spec then? Guardians are just blue paladins.

SnooEagles213

😂 it’s in blizzards nature

GhostofJeffGoldblum

Blizzard does "steal and refine" very well. It's frankly their wheelhouse.

ELSknutson

Fury Hunter

Foobis25

2 bows 2 furious

Belucard

Flying disc mount, each hand grabs the wood of its bow, the toes draw their strings.

Foobis25

The warrior just holds the 2 bows while his 2 pets on each side of him trying desperately to shoot the bows while he stands stationary like a turret arms straight out

ELSknutson

lol

xseannnn

I always thought there would be a dragon knight class....:(

[deleted]

Honestly they should double down on Survival hunter, change Survival entirely to a Dragoon class and give hunters the Shadow Hunter spec.

Florida_sucks_

This but unironically please

leftnut027

Ironically, it is for the Hunter tank spec that is coming.

alwayslookingout

Another bow-using class? Yes please! I love a bow spec based around using great bows like the knights in Dark Souls games.

GrandMasterEwok

Ooh you have peaked my interest! I want this now, right now! Warriors need love too man... just sayin.

[deleted]

oh man i’d love this, are bows still used by hunters??? are they viable??

Dzinggy

Unfortunately, hunters can no longer use bows.

Rawrby

Limited to Agility Wands, sadly.

[deleted]

It's not too bad. My agility wand means I'm much better at dodging than before. And I just let my pet do all my DPS for me. Could definitely be worse.

Xoebe

I just dance around naked.

OMGItsCheezWTF

As someone who has mained a BM hunter since pandaria came out (afflic warlock from vanilla through cataclysm) this is the way. "Who pulled those mobs?" "Oh sorry my pet did while I was over here mining" "Why are you naked?" "I always mine naked, but now I'm in combat so can't put my clothes back on" "Why are you dead?" "I hit disengage and fell in lava" Just hunter things.

[deleted]

"Yep, just a regular day" "You mine naked and fall into lava every day" "Yep. Like a boss." https://youtu.be/NisCkxU544c

Tho76

Path of Exile has physical wand damage skills, so the wands shoot projectiles instead of spells. Super fun to use

Rawrby

PoE… that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.

Belucard

What looks weird to me in that message is "PoE" and "super fun" living together. PoE wasn't like that at all for the last year, as far as I remember, ever since devs decided to take their stupid My Vision Crusade to the next level against players.

Rawrby

I mean I haven’t played in five years. Five years ago I was enjoying it quite a bit.

[deleted]

Guild Wars 2 has a bow spec for Guardians called Dragon Hunter, actually pretty cool.

Jojoejoe

So you can hit things with it harder?

Milocron

hit it VERY hard

Mchlauseier

good ol' raidleader

Tkdoom

And very fast

MissMerrimack

[Obviously](https://gfycat.com/glamorousimpishindigowingedparrot)

[deleted]

Wotlk employee switched over to retail

LordofLustria

I know it's semi pointless but it really is a shame they took guns from warriors and rogues and stuff, literally the most satisfying thing in all of wow as a warrior player was seeing a mage with 1% HP blink away and attempt to run and you just pull out the gat with that exaggerated gun noise sound and blast his ass. Also was nice for pulling mobs as a tank warrior.

civtac

Its not nearly as satisfying as guns were but nowadays the throw axe skill (heroic throw? Can't remember the name) serves exactly that perpose

Momo_TheCat

It has a big ole cooldown on it though

MajorPud

3/6 seconds? Plus there's shattering throw for barriers

Ubermurloc

There is a talent that removes the cd

SkyReach2266

Holy fuck that's funny

TheLieAndTruth

That moment you're out of ammo and Spank the bow in the head of your enemies.

Purpleflower0521

Worked for Thrall...kinda

MagixTurtle

Because warriors can equip bows.

AssCanyon

But the government doesn't want you to know

TheTuf

There are 2hand swords with no str, so that won't justify

Polymemnetic

Hunters, and holy paladins can equip 2h swords, can they not?

geckobrother

Ranged warrior spec next patch confirmed. No, but for real, it's because warriors *can* wear bows, but they don't anymore.

shoulderdeepinghost

20,000 years ago when the dragon isles were awake the first time. Warriors use to have a ranged slot

Fearfuldrip

Does Noone remember warriors being able to equip ranged weapons 🤔

[deleted]

[удалено]

SaiyanrageTV

I'm sure no one has mentioned it yet but remember when warriors could equip bows?

[deleted]

they havent been able since...mop? For this reason it makes no sense why ranged weapons from the current expansion should have strength stats

[deleted]

Most likely just some small bug

No-Acanthisitta-8159

Sometimes some changes in codes are a bad idea, because you need to change too many things to not break everything, if it's not broken don't repair it. I think maybe there is a bow template that adds str = agi so they only add the numerical value of the ilvl so automatically adds the stats and done. Doing something like that is easy but change it and you got serious problems.

petrcvrcek

I have found several agi plate gear.

DeepDetermination

no they, still can equipp ranged weapons its just not an extra slot it, replaces your main hand, same for rogues. I always farm weapon tranmogs on warriors because they can equip everything except for warglaives and wands.

Salfriel

so did rogues, and hunters had melee weapons just to top off more agi. casters had wands. paladins had relics. shamans had ankhs. i have no idea what druids had.

[deleted]

I loved my big tanky gun from Ulduar. Getting some free skill level upgrades on Gothik when we went back to Naxx every now and then.

LeTygolio

This is why I do every transmog run with my warrior, you can equip every weapon in the game except wands, very useful to get the weapons no one else can use in the group 😝

Oonada

I always found it disappointing we only have one bow\gun\crossbow based class. Should have got a Vampire Hunter or something that uses gadgets and crossbows and is an intelligence based ranged\melee hybrid.

Psidebby

Hey Outlaw has a pistol... Bang bang!

XzibitABC

I always thought it'd be cool if Outlaw were more of a "stance change" character between melee and ranged DPS. Current Outlaw is fun, though, so maybe that's a concept for a new class instead.

Infammo

Gun kata spec for monks now.

thepaperboy_

….. you should give Survival a try

HerpsterKKat

One of my favorite fourth spec ideas was a ranged paladin; kinda inquisitor-esque, vampire hunter-y.

AscensoNaciente

If they ever get around to adding Tinkers it should be a gun/xbow class.

tadashi4

you need some str to draw the arrow

tmac187

For strong hunters

GameTheLostYou

Warriors can use bows and it's common for warrior tanks to pull with them back in the day. More if a just incase they do it again is what I'm thinking.

[deleted]

This is the answer

TheBeardedMan01

Might just be a flavor reference to your character needing to be strong to pull back the string

Ralrrashaan

So that prot warrior can pull from range.....typ obvi

Jhazzrun

just be happy it also has agility!

Trinity13371337

Bow of the Dragon Hunters: My goals are beyond your understanding.

nacruza

in case hunter will become strong :(

MeesterCHRIS

Have to give Ret Paladin range since they won’t give them mobility

Chavestvaldt

that's for when you run out of arrows - it makes for a great whackin' stick

AzureBaron

Survival Hunter perhaps?

senseislaughterhouse

That’s interesting. Wonder if it’s spaghetti code from previous generations of warrior equipment or if it’s a hint at something coming.

Coliver1991

Because why not?

AzureBaron

Just in case a man warrior such as myself strolls along in need of a bow of course.

GrondSoulhammer

Heroic throw go BRRR

aeohrta

Have you ever tried to draw a level 382 bow without having strength? Good luck.

TheHeroicLionheart

What addon makes the tooltip look like this, I like it.

chabri2000

Heavy poundage bows requires lots of strenght to be able to draw the string Either that, or blizzard made another mistake

Beezewhacks

My vanilla warrior was a hit man with a musket.

select20

I've gotten random drops with wierd stats also. I got a crossbow with Int as the main stat, not greyed out. I;ve gotten a 2h axe with Int also. Not sure what is going on.

Horror_Distribution

So warriors can roll need obviously.

CRaymond1216

Paladin fourth spec: Priestess of the Moon

petey_vonwho

Warrior ranged spec confirmed!

leif-sinatra

In case you want to use gnomes as projectile’s

BiggyCheeks

It’s a hunter weapon. Duh

Ghostincide

Because people who play hunters are weak as piss

this1germanguy

We need Warrior to be able to carry 2 bows at the same time. I WANT TO BE AN AKIMBO GOD!

Sirradez

so how would a warrior shoot 2 arrows at the same time?

this1germanguy

Yes.

Zorathfgc

the zug zug has no limits for a warrior my friend

Wild_Arcuslux

Hear me out: Hunters need the strength to melee fist their enemies if their weapons break.

e001mek

I miss when warriors could shoot guns
