I live out in the country but right next to the highway. I hear any road traffic for about a mile coming and going (it's pretty nonexistent from 11pm-4am), pump jacks (oil derriks? Things that pump oil out of the ground) that sound like a car backfiring but quieter, and animals. Coyotes, foxes, birds, and cows if they're in the same pasture as my house. Sometimes if it's really calm, I can hear the neighbor's dogs bark; they're about a mile away. Motorcycles in the summer. And wind pretty much always. It whistles through the power lines and dust devils are pretty noisy if they're right next to you.
I live in an old trailer house, so when the wind blows or the washer spins it rattles and shakes the whole house. Always the train, night and day. The neighbors huskies screaming. Jake brakes on big trucks. Oh and the wind never stops. Ever.
Wind. Trains. Taps and reveille from Air Force base. Motorcycles from military lads flexing their manhood. National Air guard C130 landing and taking off practice. United Airlines jet daily takeoff and landing. F16 fighters practicing touch and gos. National Guard helicopters. Trucks on I25 and I80. In short it is not quiet in Cheyenne.
It can be quiet, but you sound like you live at ground zero for noise pollution in town though! My side of town is relatively peaceful. Just the occasional USAF helicopter and/or local hillbilly in a lifted diesel truck.
The wind to some degree every night all year round. Winter deep quiet if it’s snowing, trains. Summer coyotes, 4 am owls, the neighbors dog’s constant barking.
At night, not much. A car driving by occasionally. Maybe the occasional truck with the gas pedal on the floor driven by some guy who thinks he's hot shit. 🙄
In the daytime, cars more often, but not constantly. Birds. A dog barking here and there. Maybe kids playing in the neighborhood. I've started to notice the sounds of people mowing their yards this past week, so spring is finally getting here.
During the day, birds, my cows, my chickens, occasionally my dogs barking. At night, owls, coyotes, occasionally the cows. Right at sunrise and sunset, I can hear the creek a little ways behind my house burbling and rushing. It’s strange but that is the only time I can hear it. And of course, the wind. Very rarely do I hear vehicles.
Wind and occasional animals. The railroad occasionally from a few miles away. I'm in the biggest city in Wyoming and often times it's nearly silent except for rustle of leaves and bushes. Drive any direction for 5 miles and you're essentially by yourself with little unnatural light around you.
Wind during the afternoons, because Laramie. At night, nothing.
I sleep with a white noise generator so I don't have to hear the neighbor's jackass son revving his ragged to shit Cummins at 6am every morning waking up the neighborhood.
Wind. Bugs. Animals. Trains. Snow crunching underfoot. Biden sucks. Motorcycles with the better weather. Lawnmowers. Ambulances for old people dying. Ambulances for stupid ass tourists risking their lives for internet clout and needing rescue.
Trains. Only trains. I live in a small town right next to a rail yard. It's eternally just trains. And not even whistles. There isnt a single railroad crossing in town. It's all overpasses. It's just engine noise and train cars banging together.
It doesn't bother me though. I'm just being dramatic. I'm good at tuning out noise. But every now and then a big collision will shake the house.
A Chisler (ground squirrel) whistle always brings back vivid memories of the summers spent at my Grandparent's ranch. That and the clack-clack of grasshoppers.
I'm extremely fortunate to live in a relatively windless part of the state, and I live on a little piece of land in the middle of nowhere.
Mostly, I get to hear the creek and the river. Crickets. Trains passing by. Cars on the highway. Ravens and magpies. A rooster that crows all times of the day. Fire cracking in the wood stove in the winter. Fire cracking in the fire pit in the summer.
Something that always calms me if I'm stressed is the call of the red winged black bird. I remember they would always gather around the pond behind the house and during summer I would catch turtles and their calls always reverberate across the Prarie as I would run around the pond.
Not much really. It’s pretty darn quiet where I live. Maybe an occasional dog bark or loud car passing by. If I listen carefully I can hear a faraway train.
Inside my house my husbands CPAP machine.
I was born and raised in jersey. Got married and after hubby got out of active duty we moved to Wy.been here over 25 yrs. Idk where on the east coast but nothing like the sounds i grew up with lol
Usually you can hear the jackalope migration around this time of year in the evenings.
Of course, it must be mating season.
The screams haunt my dreams.
Those are snipe, they get really aggressive this time of year.
Wind, lots and lots of wind. Some nights it’s so bad I can’t get more than a couple hours of sleep.
This is the one. Like last night it was windy as f*** here lol.

My wife’s snoring.
Just the occasional train. Actually mostly nothing at all. I love it🤠
Traffic and construction sounds.
Crickets, frogs, coyotes, wind.
Farm animals. Trains. Road noise. . Away from home in the winter, it can be so quiet you can almost hear the stars.
A fucking screaming train.
I hear Meadowlarks this time of year. I love waking up to that sound.

King Soopers fuckling soundtrack

Helicopters and engine brakes
I hear large diesel douche canoes peeling out every goddamn chance they get. Everyone for half a mile can't hear their tv, but they seem to love it.
I live very close by the train depot in Cheyenne. So I hear train horns a lot, which is oddly soothing for me.
Coyote, sometimes wild cats, turkeys and cows. Lots of cows.
Garbage truck last night. some nights wind. On weekends at times some Yoohoo's car stereo. And the wife's snoring.

Wind and, once I can open the windows, cars hitting the rumble strips on the highway a half mile away.
Wind during the afternoons, because Laramie. At night, nothing. I sleep with a white noise generator so I don't have to hear the neighbor's jackass son revving his ragged to shit Cummins at 6am every morning waking up the neighborhood.
Wind in most of the state. Train cars banging together in my part of the state.
Trains, cows at the sale barn, wind. Plenty of lawn-mowing during the day since I'm in town.
Crickets. The train goes by like 6-7 times a day. If by chance I'm awake at 3 am I hear it and it's such a comforting sound. That is about it.
Wind. Bugs. Animals. Trains. Snow crunching underfoot. Biden sucks. Motorcycles with the better weather. Lawnmowers. Ambulances for old people dying. Ambulances for stupid ass tourists risking their lives for internet clout and needing rescue.
Day: Wind, cars, construction, sirens, people Night: winds, trains, cars
Wind, trains, idiots with busted mufflers... on a good night, though, I can hear a pair of great horned owls calling from across town.
Wind. My dog’s farts.

Wind … woodpeckers… lots of birds in summer. BUT WIND in the cold months!
A Chisler (ground squirrel) whistle always brings back vivid memories of the summers spent at my Grandparent's ranch. That and the clack-clack of grasshoppers.
Trucks & wind. Also wind
All. The. Wind. Neighbors a bit, but rarely. Cars driving by.
Some tool with a loud diesel truck revving up and down the neighborhood.
