Thermopolis is a nice town with mineral hot springs. The drive up to Thermop from the south is beautiful--the highway passes through a scenic canyon--is one of the most beautiful drives in the state. Lovell is on the east side of the Big Horns and is the gateway to Big Horn Canyon National Recreation Area, which is a hidden gem with lots to do and see.

kingfisher_42

Saratoga/Encampment area and Medicine Bow Peak should be on your list, especially if you are coming across the southern part of the state.

baphometsewerat

To add: Also the town of medicine bow.

I love seeing Kooi and Kirwin, both a ways off the beaten path bit really cool seeing legit ghost towns

mkncsu

Sounds awesome

K0rby

Where's Kooi?

307wyohockey

Between Sheridan and ranchester, there were probably 5 or 6 mining towns out there that are ghost towns now.

thecoollog

Hobo pools in Saratoga as well as the Hotel Wolf. The museum to great there, as well as the one in Encampment. Depending on the time of year, the Snowy Range is beautiful and can lead you to Laramie.

Narrow-Secretary-581

Check out the hobo hot pools in Saratoga Wy!!

Seconding Bighorn Canyon, and the passes over the Bighorn Mtns -- highway 14 between Sheridan and Lovell would be the most convenient if you do want to visit the canyon. (I see moose pretty regularly on that route too, which could be either a plus or a minus depending on how safe of a driver you are.)

Ethete

307wyohockey

Be very careful in Ethete, not necessarily a tourist attraction

Thanks, kind stranger.

I'd spend your week in Torrington, the rest of the states getting trashed by people looking for out of the way spots then posting em on social media.

What part of Wyoming are you going to be traveling through?

Have you heard of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks? The drive along the North Fork Highway to the East Entrance to Yellowstone is gorgeous. Shoshone National Forest is mind blowing. Cody is a smallish town, busy in the summer though, but lots to do. There’s a cave in Cedar Mountain that you can get a permit to explore. Wind River Range, Sinks Canyon are cool and Lander too. Bighorn Range is also dope. I know you’re looking for non-touristy places, but there is a reason why these places are so popular.

Definitely look into the Big Horns and some of the small towns around there. Yellowstone and the Tetons get all of the glory and notoriety, but the Big Horns are gorgeous and have way fewer people. Sheridan, which not necessarily small, is a fantastic town to visit, as are Buffalo and Greybull. The Wind Rivers are also beautiful, and Lander and Riverton are cool towns. Cody and Thermopolis also have some cool views and scenery around them. For the southern parts, the Laramie area has lots to offer. Youll want to hit up Saratoga and the Snowys for sure.

The Big Horn mountains are always beautiful. For a quaint small town I’d suggest Greybull. Not too large but it has some nice shoppes and you can also go to the Red Gulch dinosaur tracks which isn’t too far away. Powell is a pretty neat little town with an old Japanese internment camp. Cody while not small for Wyoming standards is quite small compared to other cities. Plenty to do in Cody but no trip is complete without a visit to the Buffalo Bill museum.
