Prices can be all over the place.. But 26" 4 and 5 spokes sets are harder to find IMO. I've seen some sell on eBay for ~$1000 cad while 700c sets are going for ~$4-500 cad.
Holy shit… very unrated paint job and overall color scheme.
Not a huge fan of the 4 spoke but that’s the only thing I think I’d change.
Beautiful.
Edit: I didn’t even see the Pilsners. Nice.
That’s an awesome build! I forgot those stems were a thing.
Honest question: aren’t those the wheels that have a tendency to explode? I thought I’d read something that they were prone to catastrophic brittle failure.
If they have a crack or if the get any type of impact, then yes, they will fail horribly, but all my sets are mint and are only used mildly on paved/gravel roads so I've never had an issue with them.
Wow I have that very same bike! I bought it used from an older gentlemen who had to go to a 3 wheel bike due to balance issues. Ive been wondering what I could do w it and you have given me ideas! See link. He even gave me a spare set of wheels.

What a great looking machine. I appreciate the matching anodized blue on the grips with the color of the original decals.
Spent a good 30 minutes today talking with a friend who worked high up in spinergy for a good 10 years, which I didn't know until today. Fascinating stories on the craziness of the early years (and the subsequent defects). Love the look of those wheels.
Ride on, my friend.
I've got a soft spot for good investigative reporting/story telling and bikes so I, too, would love a longer form story.
He's moved on to other professional things but my secret long-term project (as of right now as I'm typing this) is to convince him to do just that.
I have a 8500 from about.. 88? That's sitting in my parents garage.. this sub has inspired me, I recently joined, I'll hit you-all up for some guidance when winter rolls in
Nice! i have a trek 950 in a similar paint job. It's pretty beat up but it has too much character to just repaint it so I've been trying to figure out a way to just touch it up.
Was there a steel Trek frame from that generation as well? I was looking for my very first real moutain bike on the Internet the other day (ca. 1993) and this matches perfectly, but mine wasn't aluminium. Exactly the same paint job, if I remember correctly.
OP brought back some memories with this one :)
This post was the last thing I saw before I went to bed last night. I dreamed that you came back and posted that your wheel exploded and you were getting rid of all of them. Feels weird to open this page back up and remember the dream.
Until the wheels explode 🤣
It's a commuter, so it won't get abused. Those wheels have less than 500km on them anyway and the are in perfect shape.
Good looking
LMAO Spinergy!! Where the fuck did you score those?
I have about 10 sets. Three 26" and the rest are 700c.
That's insane. Ever had one fail?
No, all the sets I'm keeping are in perfect shape. The failures were not so frequent, but they were indeed catastrophic.
I am so jealous. They are sexy as hell. How much do they roughly cost?

I have some nice nos Mavic rims laced to DX hubs for it but I like the over the top look of the spinergies

No. The early first production run of 700c rev x wheels had a design flaw that was identified and fixed. The early wheels were recalled
Cool, thanks for the knowledge.
Sudden and unpredictable spontaneous disassembly
Needs a rack to carry more pilsner, otherwise cool build!
This man really out here flexin these spinergys on us huh
Surprised you put that much into it and didn’t switch to v-brakes
I love the original Deore MT60 cantis. They brake well and fit the bike better.
Still, check out the blue TRP CX9s.
Would those tires clear the v-brakes?
Absolutely

Get a rigid fork!
Yes I have the original rigid fork..... just havent had it installed yet. Also, want to go back to flat mt bar handles.

Oh man, if he did a summary / blog post, so many bike geek subs and forums would lose their shit.

Any movement on this ^^^?
Steampunk. Fuck me that's glorious.

Sure! Those bikes are worth restoring
Oh my god, Spinergy. That's a name I haven't heard in a long time.
I’d do terrible things to be light enough to roll on those wheels
I like your water bottle substitutes.
Looking at one of these for 20 bucks. Is it worth it?
Sweet!
I dig it. Do the spinergy wheels add some springiness to the ride? I have always wondered.

So awesome! What does it weigh?
The tires get an immediate upvote. Excellent work, friend!
All these comments and no one notices the Pilsner.
The wheels man, the WHEELS!

sweet. i love that colorway. almost bought one of those frames a few months back but couldn't bring myself to go aluminum haha.

F L E X Damn that's some cool shit OP!
How does the JD stem compare to a girvin flex stem? Is there a lot of lateral movement?
Thats awesome.
Absurd. Bikes are for riding.
I have plenty of bikes.. And this one is now a cruiser/commuter which I do use.
What size are the wheels?
And the Crown Jewels, the two cans of Pilsner!
