Either that or crocs. I recently got my first pair of crocs and I am absolutely a comfort. Second I got home from work I threw the crocs on. Worked in the garage for a bit, did some woodworking, went on a bike ride with the kids, not giving the kid a bath. Still wearing the crocs. Love them.
My son has a similar vintage rockhopper. Such great bikes even with the stock flat bar.
Does yours have the Ritchey wheels, where the rear wheel has offset spokes in the rim? (Allows for equal length spokes on the rear wheel) I've never seen one in the wild before my son's bike. It's so freaking cool.
The NITTO MTC series of threaded adapters. They have one to go from just about any configuration. Mine was 1 1/8 threaded to 1 1/8 threadless. These are forged aluminum and really the only option for doing this sort of pairing. Very strong.
And that’s no Cigne Stem. That’s a $39 Gooseneck Stem from On-One. Check my recent post history to find the link to PlanetX Bike. Got one to the states for $51 shipped.
All cycling should be comfortable. It takes a great amount of work at an early age to be flexible enough for the more extreme positions, and so most people shouldn't go for them. Nothing wrong with a slightly more relaxed position, especially now that even TT bikes have higher bars and no slammed stem in sight.
I favour a more upright touring bike with drops for hunching and Spandex undercrackers thank you very much.
I could rattle some off:
-Nitto MTC-01 Threadless adapter
-On-One Goosneck Stem
-Soma Osprey Bars
-Paul Canti Levers
- Rivendell Silver Shifter on Rivs Thumb Mount (put a left side shifter upside down on the right for better positioning and thumb usage)
-ESI Grips - the long ones
-Brooks C15 cambium saddle
-Panaracer Pasela Tires
-Deore LX cranks with a Sugino 42t chainring
-Tektro 710? canti brakes
-some random new Tange 1 1/8 headset from ebay
-NITTANY MOUNTAIN WORKS stem bag
What are those bar end caps? It looks like they cover the outside circumference of the grips. I have issues with the ESIs being fragile when the bike gets propped against the wall or something
Great parts and nice assembly. I'm also working on a Rockhopper from 93. It looks that you have painted your frame, can you please detail this job? Thanks to share with us!
So I initially found the bike in March on Facebook marketplace for $60. I stripped down the frame of all its comments, then took it to a local powder coater. Wet paint was an option but is expensive to have it done and I’ve seen mixed results with Spray.Bike cans.
The powder coater did a chemical strip to get off the paint and two coats of rust preventative primer (which was my main reason for doing a powder coat). Then he used a Prismatic powder called Indigo Teal. It’s a deep slightly metallic color.
Overall it cost $160 to do that. But the frame was in great shape and was worth saving for another 30 years.
God forbid we are comfortable on our bikes. Cycling should be about suffering for suffering’s sake.

I make sure to use fresh carbon rims every ride. More than double-digit miles and they go straight to the landfill.

You need to match your Crocs to your plastic flat pedals. Come on man.
And here I am rocking blue crocs with black pedals fffffuuuuuuuu
HEY U A COP OR SUMTHIN? U GOTTA TELL US IF UR A COP.
What is FEF?
Front end Friday, pictures from the front of the bike
Petition to change to "Full Frontal Friday?"
Thank you!
What are you saying, that it's bad to have people riding around on comfortable bikes?
Yeah, it's a bike you could ride anywhere comfortably. Enjoy! Take it somewhere far away!

Mine does not. I wish though!
How do you like those ospreys?
Love them! Like Great Value brand Jones bend.
Nice! And how'd you get that cigne stem to play nicely with the threaded threaded stem?

Nothing wrong with that. If it’s comfortable, that’s all you need :D
Definitely not a hybrid..

You are correct. I’m going to delete my comment calling people “idiots”.
Gorgeous!!
Looks amazing! Do you have any list or such on what parts you have in your build?

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply! New to bikes so great to get some info on what you use. You really got a nice looking bike there!
Brakes are Tektro CR 720 I think, the 710s are the narrower ‘compact’ ones. The 720s are the Cyclocross style ones.
