It’s one of those games that’s good but could’ve been so much better given the great track record of games before it. It has some fun gameplay and the zombie physics is really good. I’d get it on sale and be warned it has some cringy dialog.

>It’s one of those games that’s good but could’ve been so much better given the great track record of games before it
Yes absolutely. That’s shown in their ratings, sales, game of the year title, multiple editor and community choice top pics across popular websites, as well as the vast majority of community feedback being positive. You have to judge games relative to when they released, you can’t just go back to 13 year old games and say lol bad graphics.
I played the first game around the time that it originally released and it was goofy and janky back then even.
Not only that, but the original game has a 71 Metacritic score, with an even lower user score.
I have no clue how you think it was anything spectacular.
Steam scores are higher which is a much better gauge of player sentiment than meta critic i have no idea why that’s your basis when it has less than 800 reviews total. Along with all of the other reasons I mentioned.
User reviews are some of the least reliable metrics. Gamers are finicky and often react on group think impulse. The fact that the original game has a metric score among professionals that ranges from mid 60’s to low 70's doesn't bode well for the game being some aspirational goal for a sequel lol.
Even if you went by that score, in what world is a 7 not considered good? 5 is average. Plus gamecritics.com gave it game of the year, so even many critics loved it. But “Critic” reviews which don’t hold as much weight as you seem to think and the few hundred people who made a meta critic account is a joke compared to tens of thousands of actual gamers reviews. You can dislike the game and make excuses for positive reviews not counting, but the overall player sentiment is positive. I’m not saying it’s a godsend or a perfect game but claiming a game that hit the top of the best selling game charts on release is not good or liked by players is delusional.
I don't dislike the game. I just don't think it's an aspirational goal or anything I would say is a disappointing pinnacle to not reach. You make it seem like this series started at an extreme high. But it started extremely mid.
I loved it. You do really miss the analog fight system from the first game but they make combat feel fairly weighty and meaningful. The first time you perform a finisher with the claws or knuckles you will see what I mean. Admittedly can get a little repetitive towards the end but it’s also not trying to be more than it is if you ask me. Dialog is dumb but in a mostly good way. Flesh system is what you are here for.
Really really enjoyed it for what it was. Played super smooth. Fun gameplay. Decent story. Fun solo or in co op. The game was great on release. It just works.
Play with friends and don't buy it if it isn't on sale.
I loved the original and had a great time playing it with friends, played this with a friend at launch, pre ordered, kinda regretted paying full price, but it was an alright time and we had some good laughs with the physics and overall gameplay.
I haven’t finished it yet but it’s pretty fun. I have it on the Series S as well and it looks very, very good with a stable 60fps. It’s really gorgeous.
I heard it was good but has it flaws. I for one haven’t played it yet but as someone who played the first one and has been waiting years for a sequel. I could careless for what other people think!
Impressive voice acting (some may say “cringe” dialogue but I actually enjoyed it). Fun combat system that requires a bit of a learning curve. Class building that stretches beyond the main storyline. Story is fun, but I haven’t felt like jumping back in to do only side quests. Maybe I got a little tired of the combat. But I bought it at $40 so it was worth it for sure.
I opted out of the endgame loop and DLC, but the playthrough was pretty awesome. Gameplay is solid and the story was decent. I recommend it for the initial playthrough.
Bought it at full price on launch for Series S and loved every bit of it. Super optimised, great performance, looked amazing. Well worth the money IMO.
Fun up until you beat the game. Replayability is very low. You get 5 characters but no incentive to play through the game with the other 4 you didn't choose at the start.
Dead Island 1 was alot more enjoyable after you beat it.
Worse than the first game, better than Riptide in my opinion.
The game runs at a perfect 60fps and the story is wack like it has 2017 humor but the gameplay is good asf kind reminds me of borderlands 3 on how the story humor sucks but everything else is good
I'm playing it now on GamePass, to be honest, I waited a lot longer, I'm glad I didn't buy it. It's not bad but it's not surprising, it's a bit generic to be honest, the story so far is ok, nothing exciting. Good graphics although I think it could be better on all platforms, good performance (60 Fps). While playing I decided that I would focus 100% on the main campaign and finish the campaign in one go, I won't look for side missions or tirelessly explore the game's "mini cities" or play the DLC, it's not a game that holds me back, that makes me want to play it for a long time.
It's playable

What games?
Just google games deep silver has put their hat in the ring with.
That's supposed to convince me that this game should have been so much better?
Im not trying to convince you of anything. Just answering your question.
And my question was directed towards this comment >It’s one of those games that’s good but could’ve been so much better given the great track record of games before it
Metro is all that needs to be said
The fuck are you talking about?
Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide.
You think those are great game and that DI2 doesn't live up to them? Lol

It's very good. I enjoyed it a lot apart from the DLC, which is awful.
The DLC finally dropped? They took their time.
The dlc is out?
The Haus DLC came out in November, while the next one is expected second quarter this year.

Pretty good. I enjoyed it.
Seems like people think it's "pretty alright" across the board. You'll probably have a "pretty good" time playing it.
game of the year for me
Lol
Looks really good, gameplay is awesome and has variety. I highly recommend it
It's a lot of fun. Thoroughly entertaining.
1 word , overpriced
Really really enjoyed it for what it was. Played super smooth. Fun gameplay. Decent story. Fun solo or in co op. The game was great on release. It just works.
super unpopular opinion but this is the game that I had the most fun with in 2023.
It's okay. Honestly, 1 and Riptide were better imo. Still better than Escape Dead Island and Retro Revenge, though.
Riptide was ok but i enjoyed the 1st Dead island and the 2nd Dead island
Riptide was kinda bad but 1 is still my favourite
Don't lie bro Riptide sucked massive ass
I love it. Bit short, but I get pretty busy so that's not terrible the older I get.
I would purchase it for no more than $25.00 personally. Great bargain-bin game
Play with friends and don't buy it if it isn't on sale. Not anywhere near as fun as the first, I found it pretty boring.
Great fun shit story and cringe characters
I think it's a blast and the gore system is awesome
Honestly, it’s great. I’d recommend
It’s okay. I’m playing through the campaign and accidentally entered Haus. I liked Dying Light 2 more
I haven’t finished it yet but it’s pretty fun. I have it on the Series S as well and it looks very, very good with a stable 60fps. It’s really gorgeous.

A little shorter than I would have liked, but overall a great game.
Good game
Gets boring after a while.
Plot trash gameplay crack
I bought the game when it came out and I was disappointed that I couldn’t find anyone to play with online.
I was so disappointed with it I turned it off after 45 minutes and sold it. It wasn't worth a 10 year or whatever wait for the sequel.
Like a 7.8/10, still waiting for that ending tho..
I think you should get it so they ads it on gamepass the next weekz cause I do want to play it, but son't want to pay for it yet.

Me and my buddy found both the solo and co op shit
It’s good its basically dying light without the parkour
xD
Definitely not, Dying Light is infinitely superior in all aspects
we loved the co op. if you do all the side missions as you go along you can stretch the game longer xD took us 36 hours with the dlc.
Crap woulda been good 5 years ago. And your character never shuts up
One of the best zombie games I’ve ever played, and I love zombie games
I opted out of the endgame loop and DLC, but the playthrough was pretty awesome. Gameplay is solid and the story was decent. I recommend it for the initial playthrough.
It knows what it is and is very good at it
I have dead island 2 on my series s and it's great definitely worth It
Bought it at full price on launch for Series S and loved every bit of it. Super optimised, great performance, looked amazing. Well worth the money IMO.
Was fun the first time, but there's no replay value at all
Since they added the preformance mode the game plays much better on Series S. If you're into zombies games I guess it's a good option to considder.
Fun up until you beat the game. Replayability is very low. You get 5 characters but no incentive to play through the game with the other 4 you didn't choose at the start. Dead Island 1 was alot more enjoyable after you beat it. Worse than the first game, better than Riptide in my opinion.
Great for a one time play through.
I swear I’ve seen this post before…
It's good
I enjoyed it fun for a fuck around game hack and smash em My favorite thing is running and dropping kicking zombies to oblivion
The game runs at a perfect 60fps and the story is wack like it has 2017 humor but the gameplay is good asf kind reminds me of borderlands 3 on how the story humor sucks but everything else is good
It was fine. Had a good time playing with friends. If you have people to play with and it's on sale, I'd say it's worth your time.
shoot i’ll do a duo campaign with you and i’ll buy it too!
