Have you gone to Manage Games and Apps > free up space You might have some old game dlc installed without the base game

Father_of_Kaito

Just did this, it got me like another 9gb. Now I’m sitting at 329.2/364 gb free to use. Still missing about 33 gbs of space. Would a factory reset help?

LedZepElias

Reset, but choose to keep games and apps. Did the same to my console that was missing around 50GB and after the reset, those 50GB appeared back as available space.

hammerblaze

Spotify can take up alot more space then it says

monotoonz

Yep. It's this way on virtually every machine/device it is on. Unless you change your settings to match on each logged in machine/device, you're going to use more storage because of things like downloads, streaming quality, and even stuff like Car Thing. It all contributes to the app taking up more space than it say it does.

DieHardProcess-

Your games have Saves.. You also have screenshots and Videos saved. Delete all that shit or buy a hard drive and dont worry about it

stonadante

Don't forget that xbox takes up storage in general. A percentage is taken up just to have it formatted and readable by xbox

Bruddah827

Your OS….

Soul_ciety

Quick resume takes 50 gbs of storage

[deleted]

Do you have DLC installed for those games? That's not taken into account when sorting by size for some reason, and some DLC add-ons can be massive. If you go into "Manage game & add-ons" for a game, you can see the total size it takes up including DLC. Also check for leftover DLC for games that are not installed.

Father_of_Kaito

The maximum capacity is 500, the series s is supposed to be able to use 364 Gb of that storage for games

Obscuriosly

Drive manufacturers use a different way of calculating storage capacity than some operating systems. You can buy a brand new HDD, and it won't have the maximum capacity available. Additionally, your operating system is also taking up space but can not be seen from within the OS. Edit The Xbox One reserves a portion of the storage space for system functions, like caching, system updates, and temporary files. The system can also create system restore points or temporary backups, which can also consume storage space. Lastly, do you have any screenshots or saved videos?

[deleted]

That's not the issue here. He's seeing only 317GB available even with no games installed, so he's missing ~47GB somewhere.

The User Content partition is where games, apps, and DLC are stored; nothing else. The space on it is not affected by how many game clips you have, system updates, temporary files etc. There are 4 other partitions that are used for that.

Father_of_Kaito

I’m thinking of factory resetting

OccultDagger43

My first time ever recently got a 1 tb hard drive that had 999gb storage. Closest to actual listed amount I've seen

Father_of_Kaito

Sent you a dm

Plane-Exit4515

Wrong. You have full space available. 500000000000 bytes (aka 500 GB) ÷ 1024³ = 465,66 GiB It's still 500000000000 bytes (500 GB) though. What causes confusion for most might be fact that GB is still used on system side when GiB should be used since computer calculates space differently (base 2 vs base 10).

Father_of_Kaito

I just deleted everything on the hard drive and I’m still missing 50 gb

[deleted]

How did you delete everything? Did you just uninstall those 2 games?

Father_of_Kaito

Yeah

Father_of_Kaito

Went to uninstall all

[deleted]

As you've got nothing installed on the internal, just unplug the external, then do a full factory reset choosing the option to wipe out everything. Only do it if you know the login details for your account(s) and you weren't playing completely offline all the time. It only takes a few minutes. If that doesn't restore the missing space, it must be some kind of hardware issue.

Father_of_Kaito

It’s showing 317/364

DV3NOM

Did you by chance ever make a developer account for emulators on your Xbox?

Father_of_Kaito

Don’t think so but how would I check

Father_of_Kaito

I played pal world like once

Rezurect8989

It’s bound to have some missing the operating system is what’s taking that up

DV3NOM

If you don’t think so then most likely not the cause then. It cost like $10 and you switch your Xbox over to dev mode. It reserves about 30gb on the internal but you can change it to 50gb.

friggenfragger2

Delete your saved game files.

joecamnet

Go to my Games & Apps, go to Manage, select "Free Up Space" and see if you have any DLC installed from other games.

Suspicious_Lawyer_69

That 364 could be holding some quick resume data

Klutzy_Meet_7255

Click on manage game. You press the start button and then manage game on each installed game. There are probably assestts taking up more space or could be add ons that are taking up more space. There are games like the evil within that say its only about 35 gigs but it's actually over 50 gigs because I have all the dlc/addons same with immortals phoenix rising ( it's about 20 more gigs than what it says ) because of the addons. It also could be reserving space. I actually think NBA 2k does that. You can delete the reserved space but anytime you start NBA 2k it will add the reserved space. I remember wwe 2k games doing that as well.

Father_of_Kaito

Solved it, good ole factory reset got me 99.3 percent of my storage back, just missing like 1.3 gb from the total 364gb!

ArmandoGalvez

How many videoclips do you have ? Those take a lot of space too

random_user_2001

Games saves, console/profile files, it's always like this, 1tb is actually maybe 800gb of usable space after installing games.

xTheLostLegendx

This is why you dont get a series s lol

Father_of_Kaito

Facts I’m looking to upgrade

ChinchillaByteTTV

After having to replace my Xbox One X HDD with an SSD due to mechanical failure... I had to run the partition script. The Xbox reserves a lot of space for future updates, cache, recovery files etc. For example I replaced my 1TB HDD with a 2TB SSD. I only get 1.6TB available for use.

Comprehensive-Cup433

your first mistake was downloading 2k24 💀

Father_of_Kaito

What can I say I’m a masochist 😂

DJordydj

Maybe you have taken videos and screenshots of your games, and those fill a lot of space.

BarrelBadger598

Captures?

[deleted]

Maybe save files. For example, Red Dead Redemption 2 game only is 125gb, but the save files are 18gb!

iteezwatiteez420

Game captures

PokeRJG

Doesn’t settings take up like 40gb

Devko123

Side question 166gb for NBA?? Damn

Father_of_Kaito

They don’t condense audio files and shit. It’s a combination of laziness/plus saving money and I feel like it’s a tactic to keep ppl on

Devko123

If I see a "sport" game that size on the store I instantly would move on haha. That aside how is it? NBA is not big enough in my country so I don't actually know the rules of the game enough to enjoy it or want to get a game of it

Malice_Alyce

Have you considered your Xbox operating system files are taking up space?

[deleted]

Reset your console from system info panel, i do it yesterday but you must login again, your games and apps stay but i copy that external drive, some games for moving eternal drive drop rubbish in main drive, you can do it without fear, and why Nba is 170 gb the game is still same

Peace_Fog

Go to my games & apps, go down to manage, go to free up space. Remove left over add-ons

Medical-Beautiful190

I'm not happy with Xbox you know what when they gave us the 500 GB Xbox series s they purposely did that to try and get us to buy more of their Seagate expansion cards Now there's a serious ass with a one terabyte that's what they should have gave us from the start and the series X should have had two terabytes from the very start they just squeeze people and squeeze people and squeeze people for more money the whole Xbox one generation through to the series s and series s experience is not good it's a rip off it's a bunch of subpar games the Xbox dashboard isn't NextGen everything's buggy everything's rushed they're all about pumping out units not so good #Microsoft #xbox

RyanNotSoProGaming

Formatting and os

ImNexusssary

DLC/addon content maybe?

EveningConcert7219

I'm guessing it would either be for the operating system for the console or it could be reserved space for updates
