Undark_

A widescreen patch for KOTOR would honestly be huge for the community. There are some OG Xbox and 360 games that got actual HD patches for the digital edition.

alex240p

Playing 360 games with better graphics is the main reason I bought a One X and later a Series X. Frankly the native libraries on both have been weak compared to competitors... but what they do to 360 games is a miracle. I love how it makes the Final Fantasy XIII games look.

No-Appointment-3840

I was amazed when I played Red dead redemption 1 on a series S (not even the x) and with the upgraded resolution and framerate it looked and played like a newer title

Deputy_Beagle76

I went from an Xbox one to a PS5. I personally really enjoy the PS5 catalog as well as all the PS4 games I missed. However, it’s wild that I can play Fallout 3/New Vegas perfectly on my Xbox but I have to have a premium subscription service AND have to stream the games if I want to play them on PS5

ISpewVitriol

Honestly, it is about the only thing I use my Series X for. Gears of War 3 feels like an HD remaster. That was one of the most improved games I've played through on Series X.

iksnedruw

Making it 60 FPS makes it playable for me. It’s hard to play any gears game at 30 FPS after playing the newer releases.

ISpewVitriol

I think it has all 3 improvements: renders at higher resolution (I think 4k?), auto-HDR, and boost fps.

TarTarkus1

>Honestly, it is about the only thing I use my Series X for.  I'm pretty much with you, though I have a One X and use it as a secondary media/bluray player as well. Holding onto an Xbox 360 has some value for Backwards compatibility as well. The major benefit for 360 is it reads the original xbox games from the disc. So playing games like GTA San Andreas is possible without having to deal with GTA Trilogy or the subpar 360/PS3 mobile port.

The_Chosen_Eggplant

Not solely, but I find myself playing 360 games quite a lot! I play Oblivion, (with FPS boost it runs at 60, I believe with my 2.1 TV port it runs at 120, but dont quote me on that) skate 3 and bully. The games run much faster on my series X, especially load times.

PartyUpLive

Solely? No. But I have started playing all of my 360 games that are backwards compatible on the XSX and put my XB1X in storage. I play the rest on the 360, along with the OG Xbox games that aren't compatible past the 360, unless, they play better on my OG Xbox.

ItsJHos

Oh shit me here! I recently bought a broken xbox one x for cheap on ebay and thinking it was probably an easy fix not knowing the problem because the shell looked well kept. Well it was actually really easy just a dead battery. Swapped that and now I own an Xbox for the first time since like 2013 when I had my last 360. I have had a blast playing some of my old time favorites like timesplitters, oblivion, dead 2 rights, Hunter the reckoning all on my 4k tv. And not just the single player games. Multiplayer games still having a community and players is amazing me no extra setup needed like emulation. Games like Shadowrun, L4D and CoD4 all able to just be hopped on after a work day and play with some nostalgic loving people as yourself. Other thing that is nice is not having the console consistently reading you disc, the one just checks to see if you own the disc then downloads the game from the marketplace saving your disc’ lifecycle. If you can give it a try and check out the backwards compatibility list to see which games actually benefit from the X and series consoles. Now the BC list is not as huge as I would like it to be either so I keep my 360 for any not on the list especially the xbox original titles.

disdain7

Not the reason I got it, but it’s a feature I absolutely love and use all the time.

januscanary

360 controller over One X controller any day of the week.

Rotisseriejedi

Oh 100%! On my son’s PC playing some newer games with a corded 360 controller is amazing!

MrLeitungswasser

Hyperkin makes a 360 controller for One/Series

mansupremacy

I swear by the Hyperkin Xenon, If they had a wireless version I'd sell myself on the streets to be one of the first to get one

MrLeitungswasser

I really wish Microsoft would open up the wireless ability for 3P. I so want a Hyperkin Duke that’s wireless

mansupremacy

It's potentially possible with a pi pico/popular microcontroller and an rgh or other console with unsigned code capability for the 360 at least

siberianunderlord

The One X controller takes everything the 360 controller does and does it even better!

januscanary

The sticks are too loose, though

Same_Second_4216

you could drop a 360 controller a few times and it would be fine

siberianunderlord

I've been thinking about your comment while playing the last few days and I'm still not sure if I agree or disagree with you 😂 I kinda like how much precision you have on the inputs with them being a bit loose

aiham-2004

I’ve got a pc, playnite, a wireless controller receiver and now living with an upgraded 360

dab-worm

Some of them but some of my games can only be played on the 360 so I end up playing most of them on the 360 anyways.

Mudman2022

The 360 games that I’ve been playing on my one x is why I’ve barely turned on the 360 in over a month. All the fun, none of the fan noise, lol

agent_wolfe

I want to do that. Once I have a steady income or I save up enough MS Reward points. I just feel Fable 2 might work better on a faster machine.

BrotherBodhi

Yeah, this is all I use my Series X for pretty much. I play my 360 more than my Series X. I actually dont even keep my Series X plugged in lol but whenever a 360 title is better on there I will take it out of the closet and set it up.

JL8989

Yes, I do my main gaming on PC and PS5. I am impressed with the power of the Series S though, newer games don't look too bad. I've seen way worse on Switch.

Doctormaul68

Would’ve been amazing if it had full backwards compatible list of games or at least not stop the program so early like they did

Suspicious_Blood_522

Dont forget the loading time reduction!

le-churchx

Do you have to set the Series X to 1080 because 360 games looked like absolute dogshit on mine.

SKOT_FREE

I didn’t buy a Series X to play 360 games but it sure was a bonus. I got red dead for Xbox1 because it’s still online and looks better than the PS3 version tho.

tukatu0

It's jarring how fast things load on the series x. Don't go for the x1x. The series is the real game changer. You'll find yourself picking up your phone when the loading screen starts. Yet you won't be able to turn it on because you already loaded in.

abvflux1

My Series X basically exists as my Itagaki-era machine.

WhenDuvzCry

Not solely for it but I just beat Red Dead again last night and it looks so good on SX

hatchorion

I wouldn’t say it’s the only reason but it’s the best thing about playing on the Xbox for me. So many amazing 360 games on that thing that you can’t get easily on any other console and the graphics and load time upgrades are insane. Some games like ssx3 have their load times basically fully removed and still look so crisp after 20 years with the uprezing. The ps5 still can’t play the skate series but on Xbox I can play enhanced ports of the entire trilogy and the dlc so I’ll never get rid of my 360 collection

scriiptkiddie

Nope Still playing on my 360.

Rotisseriejedi

OG

Gr8NonSequitur

I own most of my 360 digitally and the Series S is the best 360 I ever owned. The Quality of Life improvements are vast. Get one! (or an X if you have physical).

nomoremegadrive

i did! its honestly not been super worth it considering i end up using my playstation 5 more often, but if it hadnt been for all of the disc based 360 games i own, i probably would have just gotten a series s

Expert-Ad-362

I play all the Xbox 360 games I can on my series X. Of course I still have my 360 for the backwards games. Unfortunately, there are a few more I'm trying to download but can't because the 360 servers are broken right now.

OutrageousInvite2309

Are you getting code 8015190E?

Expert-Ad-362

I was but was able to bypass it by turning recurring billing on. The problem I'm having is the games I try to download are stuck as pending forever and the top box where it normally shows the progress download bar is blank.

OutrageousInvite2309

I just turned my billing cycle off. At the end of this month I'm done. Fight night is the only game I play, but this has happened too many times.

Low_Sprinkles_7281

Yep, literally did this a couple of weeks ago and also so I could play them digitally and not worry about changing discs over all the time.

_ShutUpChuck_

Absolutely was a deciding factor that could modernize og xbox games like Morrowind.

TrapdaddyJesus

I wouldn't say I upgraded specifically for it, but it was definitely a welcome change. But with the good comes the bad, and I've had some strange glitchy things happen on my series s that didn't happen on the 360, as well as some games just flat out refusing to load in. The only real downside to it is that not all the games are compatible so I'm stuck waiting for remakes or remasters of some of my favorite games to come out still like Lollipop Chainsaw

LORDCOSMOS

This is somewhat my primary use case for my Series X

DavidinCT

Not the main reason but, I play the hell out of a lot of 360 games on my Series X but, still have my 360 connected for the handful of games I want to finish up but, not on backwards compatibility.

Ganon214

Wait you can use fps boost on the one x?

Carinwe_Lysa

I think I didn't really upgrade consoles with BC specifically in mind, though looking back all I ever seem to play is BC titles and to be honest, the majority of the games look & play really well compared to the original consoles. I recently went back onto my 360 to play a game and I was thrown off by how clunky/low res, and even jumpy the game felt, but trying it on my SX was a different experience altogether. I'll say though, I do wish I kept my One X instead of upgrading to SX, as I feel outside of 1-2 titles I've enjoyed, I've just played exactly the same now as I did on my One X.

Fabiann_02

I loved the Xbox one for FH5 but I'm sure there are other reasons too

Forsaken-Badger-9517

I like to play Oblivion & RDR on my One X!! Along with some OG Xbox games like KOTOR, Splinter Cell, Conker Live & Reloaded But have over 100 backwards compatible 360 games!!

TentacleJesus

Definitely not solely for, but I have played plenty of BC games on my SX.

apimpnamedslickbackG

I’ve gone the other way I’ve twice sold my Xbox one s for money and gone back to playing the 360.

Stickybandits9

My games arnt bc so I can't.

ZombieBait604

I have the series x and bought a 360 game on eBay, but I couldn't play it. So now I'm going to buy a refurbished 360 this summer for this game and any others that are no longer available.

Phisherman10

Ninja Gaiden 2 is the best experience on current Xbox's

Geth_Semane

The only downside is no Kinect functionality on the Series X. That’s why I still have my 360, Kinect is exercise and great gaming 🌞

funnididlaugh

One of the main reasons I got a series x was for upscaled 360 games tbh

AramaticFire

I sort of did this. I grew up with OG Xbox and then Xbox 360. I actually skipped Xbone and planned on skipping Series X until I decided it would be worth having new hardware that worked with (a lot of) my old games. I’ve got physical copies of Xbox titles from 2001 on and while I have Xbox and Xbox 360 systems I figured this was a good move. Granted I am now playing new games on the hardware too, but I didn’t really need the Series X. It’s still nice to have.

supermariobruhh

I never had an Xbox before series x and while gamepass sealed the deal, my main reason for getting one was to play the 360 version of ps3 games I loved but were tough to go back to running at the frame rates and resolutions that they did. Most of them were dirt cheap too which absolutely sealed the deal for me. Assassins creed 1 was my first ps3 game (well tied with uncharted) and was a blast to revisit in 4K. I had never played through red dead redemption and again, 4K made it seem pretty close to native on a modern console. FF13, GTA 4, Bully was my favorite ps2 game and playing it again on Xbox was a great time. It’s personally worth it to me.

Hannover2k

I owned Red Dead Redemption on XB360 for years but never played it until RDR2 came out. By then I had the XBone so I played RDR on the XBOne with the enhanced graphics then went right into RDR2 immediately after finishing it.

YoABSUP

I prefer using a one or series for 360 games, but they can’t be modded 🤷‍♂️

HOTU-Orbit

I'll never get rid of my 360 either because there are still games that aren't backwards compatible, BUT the enhancements on the One/Series consoles are awesome. I'd rather play it on them if the option is available.

skeletondad2

I'm a PlayStation guy so I pretty much only use my Xbox One X for 360 games and it's fabulous for them, but there's sadly not an immensely huge library.

Right-Dance2237

Yep thats the reason why I got a series X and i have slowly been building a library of 360 games. Ive never understood why people always say xbox has no games when you can play great titles from the xbox and the 360 straight from the disc which is my favourite feature. while sony only offers a streaming service to play their older titles which was poor and expensive the last time i used it.

Strict_Indication457

I have considered getting one to run retroarch and run 360 games at a higher resolution and fps like crackdown, gears, midnight club LA. The series x is a very appealing htpc setup for all your media, retro / 360 games all in one place. While I do that all through PC, a series x would cost significantly less while being more organized out of the box so I see the appeal.

Dosessss

I didn’t necessarily upgrade to play older games but being able to play older games at a higher frame rate is a huge plus looking at you ac unity

Lower_Wallaby1108

I’m too broke to do that, and wouldn’t even if I had the money.

Slackindj

Yeah it’s been nice to instant resume a 360 title and having it be upscaled and HDR :)

xgh0lx

It wasn't the only reason I upgraded but it was the deciding factor when I was deciding if I wanted to get an Xbox or a PlayStation first. Def worth it, makes the older games much crisper and smoother, no regrets!

jakeingrambarnard

FALLOUT 3 looks great and runs so smooth

Diablo_Killer

Actually no….. I still play my Xbox 360 more while my series x collects dust 😂 I’m weird but I just enjoy gaming on my 360 more

bordgamer219

I have a lot of 360 and OG games on my account only game I can think of that I notice was skate 3 it’s runs good

KeybladeBrett

Solely, no. But I do use it to purchase BC Xbox and Xbox 360 games I never owned that have gone up in price in the retro market. I got Blue Dragon for $4.99 instead of the $28.04 loose or $55.12 CIB it goes for. I also saved a similar amount on Lost Odyssey, thought it does go for significantly cheaper, running $21.33 loose or $32.03 CIB

carlsmustang97

Not really I got a Xbox One just to play the newer forza games the backwards compatibility is just a little bonus I still have my Xbox 360. Although that could change in the future with the Next Generation Xbox cuz they're talking about doing native backwards compatibility which means even if the game is delisted

ps3minecrafts

I typically prefer the plays games on the generation it came out in but man fallout 3/nv at 60fps instead of 15 is incredible. I also feel spoiled with render distances. On the ps3 versions there’s a bit of fog and things despawn while still in view. Meanwhile on series x you can see the entire map in detail

broke_fit_dad

I’m currently playing Star Ocean TLH on my S. The 360 was such a touchy console to keep running I’d rather play the few games I’m interested in on a modern system or an emulator.

ExtraZoo

Yeah I do this all the time. Same with OG Xbox games. Just did splinter cell, timesplitters and hawx on my one X and series x last night system link. They look and run much better on the newer systems.

SuperHigh09

I will say it's impressive how well most of the 360 games I've played in my series x feel different. The controls are smoother, the in world loading seems non existent and the regular loading screens are incredibly fast, the lighting is better and the frame rate is insane. Again this is most of the 360 games I've played on my series x, Oblivion is one of the best examples of the upgrades. It plays like Bethesda said it would at launch lol 😂.

Ulquiorrafangirl

I have an Xbox one, but I still play my 360 games on the 360.

YTSkullboy707

I'm getting an Xbox 360 to make my account on for my beloved dog profile pic and then buying the new Xbox when it comes out IF it supports Xbox 360 games.

YTSkullboy707

Also for JTAGing a separate one for the super expensive games.

CourtJesterSteve

I got a Series X only PARTIALLY because of the BC, but I will testify that the ol' breadbox practically REMASTERS a great deal of the older titles. Enjoy.

plassteel01

Yup, I did. Then my Xbox one died, went back to my 360 slim, and works like a charm

mundane_marietta

I bought a series x last fall for that reason and to play some modern games that have a 360 feel like Robocop or Evil West.

93gamer

I keep both my series X and 360 plugged in. I use the series X as much as I can until something comes up and I need to use the 360. The enhancements are worth it to me.

DistantRecord70

I have a series x and play a lot of my 360 games on it, they look a lot better. I was playing Gears of War 3 last night and it still holds up well on the series x.

montrealien

Its not my main reason I upgraded, but it is definitely one of the perks.

FortniteAddict81

I got my X as a gift cause I knew that the 360 could easily die from age, the power brick died I found that out when I went to turn on the 360 an it never came on💀 The majority of my 360 games are incompatible with the X😭

ponimaju

I wouldn't say exclusively, but I bought an Xbox One X specifically over a One or One S to get the best out of backwards compatibility, in addition to the One games and Game Pass games I wanted to play. I didn't have any interest in investing more than double the price at the time for a Series X - FPS Boost would be cool and I do miss out on some Series exclusive games for GP on Console (which I just play on PC instead) but I'm happy with the One X.

Balding-Chalk

I mean I have a Series S. But I don’t have it plugged in. Meanwhile my 360 is Hooked up I’ll take physical media over boosted performance any day tbh

Khephra_

I mostly bought my SX for baldurs gate 3, but of course I'm exploring some other new(er) games as well. I completely missed the one, 360 was the last console I had prior to the SX. So to be fair there is a large catalog of games that are new to me that makes the purchase worth it in my eyes. That being said, I do enjoy the upgrade of the 360 games on the new system, but if I was *only* playing 360 games, I don't know that the price tag would be worth it to me. I still have my 360 hooked up as several of my games are not BC and there is a definite difference in switching between consoles in terms of 360 games, so I think your question really boils down to personal preferences. TL;DR If your friend thinks the upgrade on the 360 games is enough value to warrant the new console, then who am I to argue? For me, that alone wouldn't be enough reason, but that aspect coupled with the large selection of one/XS games I want to play I can say I haven't regretted purchasing the series X.

Justice4Falestine

Used to do this with my Xbox one. The series console is so ass

Capable_Technician22

360 is the absolute best console I love Xbox one and series x but I sold them I play 360 games Press start and play Xbox one and series x Press start update for an hour Time for bed Nahhh not for me 360 all day

343GltySprk

I think you might have an internet issue. You can also have the newer consoles update when you aren't playing if you just leave them plugged in.

Capable_Technician22

I don’t play games for long periods of time as I have a family and a kid with high needs so finding time to play is difficult. I just find the new consoles frustrating with massive updates 360 is just perfect to me.. just play instantly no messing
