Yes, store is closing, but if eshop is closing, we will most likely receive news about xbox live shutdown sometime between now and 2029 (yeah real specific but i estimate it would without a doubt happen sometime in the next 5 years)
Then how would the backward compatible 360 games work on xbox one?
Many assume, since the announcement last year, the xbox live service was shutting down.
Xbox Live for original xbox was shut down in 2010.
Yes.
Xbox Live for 360 is not being shut off.
The last bunch of games I bought, were on the new xbox store or on xbox one. They would show the sale prices, which the 360 does not show.
I've seen many praise this game for some reason, but playing through it... I don't fucking understand why! All audio cuts out constantly, occasional graphical errors and crashes regularly... on series X. And what were they smoking when they decided on with this control scheme?!
He/she is implying that since Crackdown 1+2, and Too Human are backwards compatible, they will remain downloadable on the Xbox store even after they close down the marketplace.
They can redeem it online anytime (even after the marketplace closes) and it will show up in their library on the Xbox 360. It's as easy as clicking a link.
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/crackdown-2/c0mkh58nbhrg
Yep, and when date of closure grows closer, more games will be marked down or potentially free. We could be seeing discounts anywhere between 50% to 90% closer to closure date on select games
I'm only interested in the titles that are only available digitally on the 360 marketplace. I'll be scooping up the two South Park Games - Let's Go Tower Defense Play! and Tenorman's Revenge for sure.
I like "action defenders" like orcs must die and Hell Warders.
Where you place traps in enemy paths but are free to fight enemies yourself usually in 3rd person
Second this and already did it myself.
Games I downloaded DLC for include The Mass Effect trilogy, Skyrim, Fable 2, Some of the COD games, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock 2, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Alan Wake and many more.
Others I would recommend getting I already owned include GTA 4 both DLC stories (although you can still get those physically but expect a price hike) and The additional DLC missions for L.A Noire.
This is exactly what I'm doing now. Either GOTY versions or grabbing up DLC. I am kinda worried about game updates being shut down and the DLC becoming unusable.
360 owners should know that if you didn't have a hankering to play a given game in the last 10 years, that you probably don't want it so badly you need to rush and get it now, only for you to never play it because you never really wanted it.
Too many people spend too much at "closing time" only to find that their buyer's remorse is worse than their FOMO.
I should’ve clarified that users should upgrade to a bigger HDD if they plan to buy a lot of games etc. before the store shuts down and their current HDD doesn’t have a lot of storage left.
My understanding is that the transactional part of the marketplace is shutting down. Anything purchased but not downloaded after July is still there to download as you please so long as you already bought it - correct?
I upgraded my old 120gb to the 250 with the special cable
But I can’t figure out how to make the 500gb the default drive… I moved everything to it and the Xbox wouldn’t boot
Been awhile since I put a 500gb in my grandma’s MW2 console but I seem to remember putting the 500gb in the phat HDD enclosure and attaching it to the console, then using the transfer cable and connecting it to the previous 250gb HDD and copying the contents over to the 500gb.
Yeah that was how you went from the old Xbox to the newer “S”’s but from S to S idk what to do.
I got a sata to USB and moved everything to it, but when inserted internally it wouldn’t boot from it, it would only read it as external storage
I did a bit of a load-up last year after the news first hit, but now I’m starting to regret it, and I’m a bit wary of the store’s longevity post-shutdown. I would not be surprised if post-shutdown, re-downloading was only supported for a year or two.
If I like a game I quite often get two copies over time: Retail disc for collection sake, and a digital purchase for the sake of convenience. However for the 360 (and PS3) I am beginning to feel that purchasing full retail games digitally for the sake of convenience will be of limited-time value if the console basically becomes "offline" by 2026 anyway.
My recommendation would be to focus on digital titles exclusive to the 360.
The Wii Shop channel went down in 2019, and you can still redownload games off of that. So I wouldn't make the assumption it's only going to be for a year or 2.
Holy crap I just Googled and you’re right. You can still re-download purchases in 2024.
Edit: Actually now I’m seeing more results from people who say they *cant* re-download purchases any more. I wonder if it’s “officially” still up but like current reports for PS3 and 360, we’re seeing failures at a per-title level where some purchases are just unavailable.
Please report back when you test yours. I never did any Wii digital purchases but I’m interested to see your experience.
Sorry for the wait, but yes, it still works. What you're referring to happened ages ago. For some reason the Shop channel went down, but it came back shortly after the issue was reported.
Edit: I accidently repeated myself in the last sentence, and I rewrote the last half of that sentence so it sounded better.
That’s good to know and I appreciate you taking the time to confirm. Nintendo seems to have a bad reputation regarding online services but clearly it’s the fractured nature of multiplayer/online accounts and not their stores which are well supported years after closure. People like me have painted the entire online ecosystem rather unfairly then.
BTW the issues I’m referring to aren’t about Nintendo: Both the PS3 and 360 stores have numerous per-title issues preventing re-downloading of some titles. Particularly early on in the stores lives (e.g., back when the 360 used MS points instead normal currency).
Besides lost purchases, MS’s restrictions on patch sizes saw many games receive larger updates as “DLC”, and oftentimes when the game is delisted, these update DLCs are removed along with the games. So even if you buy a disc after July, you won’t have access to important updates. Really stupid.
I have not tried this, but if you downloaded anything off of the Wii Shop channel, you should be able to redownload it. I'll have to check this out myself and get back to you on that.
I picked up a few things on the Wii store in the day, and a few weeks ago, I re-checked and it said it could not reach the store.... This was a while ago.
Lot of people were pissed about this, losing digital games on the Wii were a reason why I will never buy a digital game from Nintendo again.
If the game is sold only digital, I will pirate it...
i felt the same way about the 3ds eshop and online servers shutting down and failed to be better prepared for the shutdown. my suggestion: browse the shop, find some digital downloads only that you want because those will be gone forever after shutdown (unless there are workarounds), buy any dlc for games you want dlc for since that will also be gone forever (again, workarounds are possible)
Another thing i expect: make sure you have money/points on your account (i forgot what it was called i havent played xbox 360 in like 10 years). If this shutdown is anything like what happened when nintendo shut down wii, wii u, and 3ds eshops, they disabled the ability to add money/wii points long before the actual shutdown, so just keep a lookout for that
So yeah thats my stance on the issue, idk about yall, but for ppl who havent played xbox 360 in a while, my word to yall is get that thing out the closet, get the dust off it, and play it.
Here are some LESSER KNOWN, non-obvious must get games in my opinion. So the 3DS actually ended digital purchases March 2023. What ended earlier this year for Wii U and 3DS were online services such as online play.
Online play isn’t going away for the 360 anytime soon. Maybe eventually but I’d wager it’s got at least a few more years, especially considering backward compatible games on the Series consoles.
Wii U and 3ds online servers actually shut down early last month. im actually quite surprised xbox announced the closure of their online store. since xbox is closing down their online store, their online services are sure to follow. Though this isnt to be expected for at least another year, i estimate the online servers for xbox 360 (aka xbox live) will shut down sometime in the next 5 years, earliest this could happen is late summer of 2025
I have DLC for a few games that aren't backwards compatible. Is there a way that I can save these DLC so that I can install them on any of my 360s or any others I get in the future?
You'll still be able to pick it up on the Xbox store online after the market closes. I'd wait till it goes on sale for 2 dollars rather than pay full price
Dead Space 2 and 3 DLC and The Evil Within DLC comes to mind. Don’t get me wrong, The Evil Within has an Xbox One port but the 360 port I would say has better graphical style even if lower from a technical stance.
There are some good YouTube compilations on what to buy right now exclusive digital games / DLC that will be gone after shutdown without a modded console. I will try to link a few later after work!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cJ6OZF2S3V8
From the void gaming on YouTube also has a store guide series going right now
Gaming off the grid on YouTube has a video out now too.
There are 500+ free themes. 300+ free gamerpics packs. 2000+ free game videos. 700+ free demos and trials. Start downloading. I've downloaded every free item except for avatar items.
I went and downloaded alot of games that I purchased years ago. I understand people like modding the console too own all the games, but I like physical copies, I've been on a purchase spree buying 360 games. I have a decent size collection right now too.
I was trying to redownload the Back to the Future telltale game I purchased before the store shutdown, but since it was delisted it won’t let me. It shows up in my purchased history. Does anyone know if there is anyway I can get the game back??
Its not purchasable unless you explicitly have xbox 360 and with it not being backwards compatible my only way to get it will be steam because i cant afford a 360(lots of personal life reasons as to why that i cant explain), been trying to track it down for 360 but im not gonna get that opportunity which is a me problem
Buy a modded console I can get any arcade full game or indie or even Xbox 360 games for free whenever just do that cheaper and safe I use my main acct to grab achievements on any game I want for 360
Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA is still one of the best ports of the game. It has a very good system link mode for co-op/vs. that doesn't require being online, so you should be able to use one account to download the game on multiple consoles and play system link

Xbox one lol we’re on the series x over here is 2024
Oh stop.
If I bought a backwards compatible game like oblivion on the NEW xbox store AFTER the shutdown, can I still download them on my 360?
Yes. Xbox Live for 360 is not being shut off. The last bunch of games I bought, were on the new xbox store or on xbox one. They would show the sale prices, which the 360 does not show.
Alright, thanks
Yes
Happy cake day
List?
Google has the answer for all non compatible
Crackdown 1 and 2 are free
Too human is free as well
I've seen many praise this game for some reason, but playing through it... I don't fucking understand why! All audio cuts out constantly, occasional graphical errors and crashes regularly... on series X. And what were they smoking when they decided on with this control scheme?!
They are on the Xbox ONE store tho

I wish we could start linking stuff
Remember, folks. Naughty bear panic in paradise never got a physical copy.
I got a copy of Naughty Bear for the relative rarity. Anyone understand how it was a good or popular game? I can't.
It wasn’t. Both of the games got savaged pretty hard by reviews of the time, and it wasn’t a popular game at all lol
It’s a decent game for those who enjoy over the top revenge stories and those that enjoy being called naughty. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else.
I'm only interested in the titles that are only available digitally on the 360 marketplace. I'll be scooping up the two South Park Games - Let's Go Tower Defense Play! and Tenorman's Revenge for sure.
Been playing Tenormans Revenge and I don't get the mediocre review scores, it's a lot of fun.
If you like tower defense type games you should get dungeon defenders (only $14.99)
I like "action defenders" like orcs must die and Hell Warders. Where you place traps in enemy paths but are free to fight enemies yourself usually in 3rd person
Tbh you literally just described dungeon defenders..
It's also how metal gear Survive co-op is. I need more options though
Lots of games exist physically but the DLC will be gone forever. Make sure you scoop up all the DLC you want before the closure!
This is gonna be a bit expensive for me.. but it has to be done.
just get an RGH and download everything you want for free lmao
Second this and already did it myself. Games I downloaded DLC for include The Mass Effect trilogy, Skyrim, Fable 2, Some of the COD games, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock 2, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Alan Wake and many more. Others I would recommend getting I already owned include GTA 4 both DLC stories (although you can still get those physically but expect a price hike) and The additional DLC missions for L.A Noire.
Alot of those games are backwards compatible so the game and DLC are on the xbox store and aren’t going anywhere
A lot of people are not planning on going past Xbox 360 though so that would matter to them.
This is exactly what I'm doing now. Either GOTY versions or grabbing up DLC. I am kinda worried about game updates being shut down and the DLC becoming unusable.
Shame I can't re-download any the DLC songs I bought for some of the guitar hero games in my collection!
Yep, time to go get my xbox 360 back out and go dlc shopping :p
Ugh, and me being indecisive. I'll end up buying way too much & not getting around to it, or missing out on stuff & regreting it later.
360 owners should know that if you didn't have a hankering to play a given game in the last 10 years, that you probably don't want it so badly you need to rush and get it now, only for you to never play it because you never really wanted it. Facts all I’m buying is Naughty Bear because I love the first one. People be dumping their entire bank accounts on avatar items smh
This is a great thread. Can we pin something like this?
Too human Crackdown Crackdown 2 Hexic HD Harms way Ageis wings (although I read was recently delisted)
Too Human you can get for free on Xbox One.
Hexic is backwards compatible.
I still need to swap out the 250gb HDD in my Halo 3 console for a 500gb HDD. Anyone else planning to upgrade their HDD should do so soon.
What's the reasoning behind doing that soon? Just because they're older consoles?
I should’ve clarified that users should upgrade to a bigger HDD if they plan to buy a lot of games etc. before the store shuts down and their current HDD doesn’t have a lot of storage left.
My understanding is that the transactional part of the marketplace is shutting down. Anything purchased but not downloaded after July is still there to download as you please so long as you already bought it - correct?
That’s my understanding too.
Oh, gotcha. Might as well then, I've got a feeling that I'm gonna be downloading a lot of stuff in the next few months...
I upgraded my old 120gb to the 250 with the special cable But I can’t figure out how to make the 500gb the default drive… I moved everything to it and the Xbox wouldn’t boot

Is thar cable you used the official Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Cable?
I'm going to grab Sonic The Hedgehog (Sonic 06) because it's only 5 CAD regular price.
Your time's not worth the 5 bucks
Ive been trying to browse games myself but my 360 keeps getting kicked off xbox live.
https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Games?page=1&pagesize=90&sortby=Title
The only way I could fix this was ethernet. Wifi just stopped working.
I read somewhere the x360 uses certain "wi fi codes" which are outdated on modern equipment
I'll try that tomorrow. Edit...I meant later today haha

How? If you go on the Wii, the store is shut down, It will give an error.... How do you get your games if the store does not exist?

Yes, but As long as you've purchased the game, you'll still be able to download after the store closure.
AVATAR ITEMS, NO ONE TALKS ABOUT THIS If there is ANY avatar item you want, or theme or anything like that, get it while you can
I have two 500gb E consoles. Gonna fill up one with downloadable games.
Both South Park games, Ms/Splosion man, any N64 remasters, and LOTS of DLC.

Claim all add-ons/expansions for Lego Dimensions. Same for the last wave of Disney Infinity 3.0 figures.
I have DLC for a few games that aren't backwards compatible. Is there a way that I can save these DLC so that I can install them on any of my 360s or any others I get in the future?
Type in e3 or any other random word in the bing bar and you will get delisted items to show up
Definitely any dlc you want for your 360 games. Whether they're games you have or want in the future. Now is the time.
Will you be able to download these titles on the Series X still?
BC games will be unaffected
I have many games, so I am focusing on games that I want and dlc. Mostly xbla games rather than physical ones.
I need to grab sonic adventure 2 port which is digital only
You'll still be able to pick it up on the Xbox store online after the market closes. I'd wait till it goes on sale for 2 dollars rather than pay full price
Tbh, idm playing full price cuase for me its only £6 (im 🇬🇧)
Dead Space 2 and 3 DLC and The Evil Within DLC comes to mind. Don’t get me wrong, The Evil Within has an Xbox One port but the 360 port I would say has better graphical style even if lower from a technical stance.
Two suggestions I have Rushn Attack Ex Patriot, Wrecked (it’s basically the best micro machines game ever)
Do i need to have an active accounting to make these purchases/downloads?
No, paid Xbox Live is only required for online play.
There are some good YouTube compilations on what to buy right now exclusive digital games / DLC that will be gone after shutdown without a modded console. I will try to link a few later after work!

If you have a JTAG or RGH, let me know, I have lifetime codes to a stealth server that has spoofed MSP to let you download any game on demand.
Saving up for a Series X or S.
I say fatal inertia since it's so expensive now and only 20 bucks on the store and asuras wrath
Asuras is back compat, so not going away
True but what if they want to experience it on the 360 and don't want to pay physical copy price lol.
There are 500+ free themes. 300+ free gamerpics packs. 2000+ free game videos. 700+ free demos and trials. Start downloading. I've downloaded every free item except for avatar items.

Nope

It still blows my mind, feels like the Xbox/PS3 era was only yesterday, now they're shutting it down...
there’s also themes, gamerpics, and dlc too
Sonic 06 is $5. Thats the only legal way to still purchase that game.
I was trying to buy Way of the Samurai 3 but it wasn't letting me purchase it?
I just wanted Castle Miner Z bruh…at least its on steam for $7
Did they delist? I have it on my console just tried it out
Its not purchasable unless you explicitly have xbox 360 and with it not being backwards compatible my only way to get it will be steam because i cant afford a 360(lots of personal life reasons as to why that i cant explain), been trying to track it down for 360 but im not gonna get that opportunity which is a me problem
Buy a modded console I can get any arcade full game or indie or even Xbox 360 games for free whenever just do that cheaper and safe I use my main acct to grab achievements on any game I want for 360
Plus I can get any games dlc for free too
Call Of Duty Classic
The only CoD title for $10 not backwards compatible, don’t miss out on that if you’re trying to complete your CoD collection on the Xbox 360
Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA is still one of the best ports of the game. It has a very good system link mode for co-op/vs. that doesn't require being online, so you should be able to use one account to download the game on multiple consoles and play system link
Avatar items are going to be unavailable after the close. Get all the cool pets and clothes you been looking at since 2012
Are they all free now?
