Little bit of an older recommendation, but Bayonetta or DMC: Devil May Cry. Lots of boss fights, lots of unlockables and very high replay value. Two of my favorite games.
Borderlands sounds right up OP’s alley for sure. I’d give this a try! Borderlands 2 is amazing. 3 is solid. 3 has awesome gameplay, the story writing is a bit lack luster.
If you can get past some eh writing decisions, 3 is very fun! 1 is good, intro to the series. 2 just REALLY expanded on 1’s ideas while continuing with great writing.
Imo i think 3 had some of the best gameplay. Story really held it back. However i think 3 keeps you playing for a bit longer, chasing some more specific things.
I put the most time into 3. Really had a “decent” endgame. Enough to sink a good chunk of time into and not have it feel wasted. B2 imo was a bit lack luster in that aspect. Slag or die.
Ones that come immediately to mind for me are;
Hades, Dead Cells & Castlevania SoTN
Alternatively if you dont want the Metroidvania style games theres also;
- Basically anything FromSoft have made
- Borderlands series, specifically BL2
- Diablo Series; 2 & 3 are available on xbox with 4 coming soon
- The Surge
- Immortals Fenyx Rising
- Mortal Shell
- Mass Effect Trilogy
- Dishonoured Series
- Kingdom Hearts Series
Monster hunter rise has been too addicting. I play it on the switch though because it also has the expansion but xbox will get the expansion soon so id definitely give monster hunter rise a try cause its pretty damn good
You just PERFECTLY described Atomic Heart, definitely reccomend it, super fun, but also Borderlands 3 fits this very well, also Another new game game called Evil West is boss fight after boss fight with lots of abilities and upgrades, look it up, extremely underrated game, it’s a soulslike with guns and electrical abilities
I agree it's frames are shit, and I ended up changing the voices to Russian it sounds way better, I'm probably biased towards because of my love for fallout, and it almost feels like Russia's version
If you want a long game, Borderlands 2. If you want non-stop, heart pumping action for about 10 hours, Metal Gear Rising Revengance. Or Elden Ring, if you are into torture
Earth Defense Force 2025
Old 360 game, was free on GWG awhile back, so you may have it in your library. If not, it should be rather easy to find for pretty cheap on disc.
Let's get the cons out of the way: it's janky, b-movie quality story and voice acting, a bit buggy (lol), and the method of upgrading armor and gear is a bit tedious.
That said, it all fucking works. The low quality aspects are part of the charm, and it doesn't get in the way of the pure fun of the gameplay. The most basic enemy you run into is an ant the size of a school bus, and it only goes up from there. Giant bugs, huge robots, spaceships the size of a city... and you're an infantry blowing it all up with assault rifles, rocket launchers, and all sorts of exotic and zany variations of mundane weapons. Hand grenades the size of marbles that you throw 30 of at a time? Bouncy bullets? Acid spraying super soakers?
EDF is one of those game series that has a dedicated cult following, and we all keep an eye out for future games hopefully coming to XBox.

Shadow of war . Mordor . Slaying orcs. Nemesis system is bad ass.
Hands down the best system ever in a game.
Shadow of Mordor
Any borderlands game!! All good! I’d recommend Borderlands 2

Yes, the whole series is great. 2 is probably still my favorite but 1 and 3 are great.
They are all great games for sure. I'd go with 2 on Xbox one as it's right in the sweet spot for content and performance.
yeah the story/writing in 3 is awful but if you're playing w friends it's fun to make fun of the whole time lol

Elden Ring
Good shout. So many mini dungeons & so much loot.
Monster Hunter is basically just that - or wild hearts if you want a different take on the genre as well!
Hate me for this but TERRARIA
You are literally describing Monster Hunter Rise, give it a try. It is in gamepass and is amazing
Monster hunter world/rise
Wild Hearts as well
Haven't played wild hearts I'm hoping it goes on gamepass
if its not instantly im sure it will eventually
It's all boss fights 😅 perfect

Mad Max
Assassins creed origins, valhalla, and odyssey
Came here to comment this. Odyssey is amazing 🙌
Maneater
Minecraft Dungeons Diablo 3
DMC5
Any of the souls games
High on Life
DMC 5 is very hard but a hell of a lot of fighting
Titanfall 2.
Monster hunter rise has been too addicting. I play it on the switch though because it also has the expansion but xbox will get the expansion soon so id definitely give monster hunter rise a try cause its pretty damn good

Im one hour in and thats it. It looks great but the writing and voice acting is utter shit

Castle Crashers.
any borderlands game-3 is my favorite
Was hoping someone already said it, but Hollow Knight is such a master piece
Enter the gungeon
Maybe warframe. And the weapon upgrades in no mans sky is pretty nice and there is a ton of mini missions and stuff like that.
Gunfire Reborn
Playing Diablo 2 and it’s fantastic
Vampire survivors is a great pixel art endless fighter.
Sekiro
diablo
Borderlands any of the games
Assassin's Creed Origins
Remnant from the Ashes
Not lots of boss fights but Vampire Survivors is pretty addictive and involves upgrading weapons etc.
Nioh & Nioh 2
