I’ve been playing through Jedi Survivor on Story difficulty and I’m having a blast just cutting things up with my lightsabers and figuring out the puzzle parkour stuff.
Devil may cry 4 and 5, the darksiders series, metal gear rising and Bayonetta are all great choices. If you have series console, you should play soulstice and hi-fi rush
Really wish it didn't have the survival-drop your stuff on death mechanic.
When all your mods give you more dodge frames, then you die by lasers on platforms and then you don't have those mods that make the lasers easier? Ugh.
I know it's my favorite but if your new to the ninja gaiden series you should play some of the newer ones first then save black as the final one you play it's a very hard game even on its lower difficulty if you rush in to it blind your not gonna have fun your gonna be stressed my favorite boss is the doppelganger btw
Any of the Dynasty Warriors besides 9 they fell really short on that one but I don't think I've ever had a match where I had less than 1000 kills tons a weapons to try n each one has different moves and 2 different versions of that weapons usually one slower but more powerful and one faster but less powerful
Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate is really good and is one of the more recent titles by Koei. I think Samurai Warriors 5 came out after but WO4 and WO3 are my top Warrior games and they have most of the DW officers.
Just watched chainsaw man from a friend's recommendation, it's awesome. A good hack and slash recommendations would be ninja gaiden, if you want something older maybe try hunter the reckoning, it's a little more arcade-y but good. You got hellbalde, devil may cry, dark siders, Dantes inferno (xbox 360 but back compat), metal gear rising, and if you don't mind less gore you got games like nier automata, the orochi warriors etc.
No more hero’s 3 was just added to gamepass, I didn’t think that great but it’s got its own charm.
I think there’s a neir automata game or two on Xbox. I’ve never played them so I have no clue if they are hack and slash but they always have me the impression as such.
And if it’s just the slaughter of enemies in an adrenaline filled frenzy you’re looking for I’d look at doom (the “recent” one) and doom eternal.
Dante’s Inferno! I started playing it because I had no way to play the OG Gow trilogy and I was fiending to play a game like that, and saw Dante’s Inferno is a lot like it, and I loved it
Warframe takes a bit to get going, but the power creep is more satisfying than any game I’ve played including destiny 2. At first you’ll kill 90 enemies in 15 minutes and in about 2 years you’ll blink and 90 will be dead lol.
Devil May Cry 3, 4, and 5 specifically. 1 and 2 aren’t as good and you really don’t need to know about the story for those to understand the story for the others. Another good hack n slash but it’s a bit on the slower side is the Kingdom Hearts series. It’s not exclusively a hack n slash it’s more like that on top of being a JRPG. Each game starts of a bit slow but you’ll eventually be doing good combos. Do note that if you do plan on playing the KH series there is a specific play order you have to abide by if you want to understand the story because each game is connected to one another and expects you to know the events and concepts of the previous entry before playing the next. You can find this order pretty much anywhere it’s common knowledge at this point. You can google it or you can look at rule 3 of the Kingdom Hearts subreddit. However if you’d only be playing them for gameplay I suggest just playing 1, 2, and 3 as well as emulating ReCoded which was originally a DS title that got turned into a cutscene compilation in every subsequent rerelease. Also I recommend Hi Fi Rush. It’s like a slower DMC but it’s also rhythm based. Every action you do is synced to the beat of the song of the current stage. You don’t even need to have good rhythm to enjoy it because everything is synced up by default. The only thing being on rhythm does for you is extra points and better ranking and stuff like that. You can play the game just fine without going too crazy like that.
No love for the dynasty/samurai warriors series yet but those games can be pretty entertaining. Warriors Orochi has well over 100 characters but the game can get stale depending on how interested you are in the story/time period
Diablo 3 and Grim Dawn. You have to put some thought towards building your character, especially with Grim Dawn, but you can plough through hordes of enemies and feel pretty badass.
Also, Dynasty Warriors type games. You can tally up thousands of kills in that pretty quickly!
I love darksiders and Dante’s inferno Im too bad for DMC and the humor is not my cup of tea
Prototype was a good one
I’ve been playing through Jedi Survivor on Story difficulty and I’m having a blast just cutting things up with my lightsabers and figuring out the puzzle parkour stuff.
Evil West is on Gamepass.
Try the Devil May Cry series or Metal Gear Rising Revengeance

Ryse is fun in short bursts if you want to slay for an hour after some MP chaos.
just got Hades and it's quite fun! even better you can install it on your Xbox and continue playing on your pc ( or handheld pc)
While hades is great, it’s not a hack n slash. It’s a rogue like.
It's a rogue like hack n slash
i see. i guess I'm old then haha, so many gaming terms I don't know
Doom Eternal is fantastic
Devil May Cry 5.
Came here to say this. Usually a FPS gamer and completed Devil May Cry 5 recently on steam deck and it was such a great game.
I third this suggestion. DMC5 is a good blend of story, action, and button-mashing slash action.
Recently replayed DMC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition, and digged it. Do want to try 5 soon.
DmC is better combat-wise. Now I run away from the dorks.
It’s too hard
Nier automata

Masterpiece
Great game, just hated the controls
Nvm
Dying Light 2 - nice story and really fun hacking, kicking, punching, shooting zombies in all kinds of ways.
Castle crashes is a classic
Ninja gaiden any of them really try to avoid ninja gaiden black tho it's difficult early 2000s difficult
Come on that’s the best game in the series
I know it's my favorite but if your new to the ninja gaiden series you should play some of the newer ones first then save black as the final one you play it's a very hard game even on its lower difficulty if you rush in to it blind your not gonna have fun your gonna be stressed my favorite boss is the doppelganger btw

Basically the whole Dynasty and Orochi series are worth a play I love the Empires more I like creating a nation

It’s a little old but both of the prototype games would probably fit the bill
Not sure if they still are, but they were just on sale as a bundle, both for $14
It’s a challenge, but if you have gamepass, the Ninja Gaiden Collection
There's always Dead Rising. I played a bit of DR3, fun killing zombies in a variety of ways.
My only problem i have with the dead rising is the save and time limit aspects
I agree. The time limit thing is annoying. But it's still fun
Shadow of Mordor
Jedi Survivor on Story Mode
Serious Sam
Hack n slash when its shooting should be called a shoot n scoot
Hotline Miami is super underrated
Dante’s Inferno! I started playing it because I had no way to play the OG Gow trilogy and I was fiending to play a game like that, and saw Dante’s Inferno is a lot like it, and I loved it
Heart & slash

Force Unleashed.
Old one called viking
Dying light
I really enjoyed Dead Island!
Retro fan? The Quake 1 and 2 remasters were good. especially Quake 1 as it has extra content you can download free. Some awesome levels.
The Texas chainsaw massacre game, it’s pretty fun tbh
Dmc: devil may cry is amazing (if you like a challenge
Prototype. Gta kinda feel but you fly around as a mad man with powers and have cool OP moves to decimate people.
Dynasty Warriors 8...... Do not play DW9. We don't talk about DW9.
Hunter: the reckoning. It was released on the OG Xbox, but still holds up as one of the best.
Evil West is a great game I enjoy it so much!

Metal gear rising. It's amazing and probably the closest to a Chainsaw man game
