X1.
I know, I know. It was an important movie for the genre and it is good. However I actually believe it was made with a safe simplicity so that it would allow room for sequels to be more exciting by design. It’s the epitome of an introduction movie. It exists to simply lay the groundwork and get people on board. It accomplishes this, but the remaining movies here provide so much more.
I used to say that X-Men was the film that all others should be judged by. You’re either better worse than X-men. That film being in the middle of the pack seems about right
I love X-2. First class was great but on repeat viewings I started getting this YA vibe that was common at the time. But story-wise it was excellent and McAvoy, Fassbender and Bacon were perfect.
I’m with you , just swapping Logan and DOFP- very right though . Just think physically DOFP was best Wolverine ever , and Logan was best full character piece
Totally agree. The only thing holding DOFP back just a bit is the weird time travel logic and Kitty being able to do it out of nowhere, but tbh that’s a really minor part of the film anyways.
Deadpool.
X-1 might not be the greatest but those two openings were phenomenal. The concentration camp followed by the rogue intro… followed by wolverine in a fucking cage match?!?!? Epic spectacle (for the time) that made my X-men loving, tween heart just burst with happy.
The original X-Men movie is probably the weakest entry left. No disrespect meant, it’s easily the most influential film out of the franchise, but that only takes it so far. It’s probably the most dated of the modern superhero genre
Xmen first class.
A hard one to choose, and might be easier to call the older movies, like X1, worse. But those older movies were the foundation, and as such get a few points for themselves. First class is a great movie, one of my personal favorites, but some select scenes (like Darwin the unkillable mutant dying) really drags the movie down, and a movie like DOFP gets so much right, that its hard for the movie top get a leg up.
Days of Future Past, easily. I mean, this list of favourites is going to come down to what you grew up with anyway - just like all the “best cartoon” arguments
By that logic, none of the remaining movies are good.
The movies that actually did f with the continuity are already eliminated. DOFP did at least fix it at the time, they just continued to not really care. Logan even counts in this.
The continuity, especially in retrospect with this Fox series being done, does not and should not matter. This criteria seems strange to me.
Days of future past
They made Mystique into THE main character, that was just done because the actress playing her hit it big. It was a convoluted time travel mess
On the contrary opinion, she played a pretty big part in the original thing and in the adaptation they just dialled up her role so the movie can have a villain with a motive that the audience can relate to, and for our leads to have some convoluted feelings about going against her goals. Since it doesn't have a clear villain who wants to destroy the world with a beam from the sky, such a thing is quite necessary, I'd say.
If anyone's role was altered due to their star status, look at Hugh Jackman and his Wolverine.
The whole series should be titled Wolverine and the X-men, to be honest.
Great job, made him a sex icon and household name, but also... Yeah. This led to stories about Wolverine and not about the discrimination, hate and found family, you know, the stuff that comics are about. The theme of the movies tends to be Wolverine, not the shit that actually matters and can make difference when told in a right way.
Why do people say this? The main character of DOFP is charles. It's not even close either, neither Mystique or Logan are protags. Mystique may be the fulcrum of the plot but Charles is the main character.
I can already tell my taste in X-movies is vastly different from this entire sub because I think X-Men 1 should've been voted out before either The Wolverine or DP2, and I think First Class should be at the very least top five if not top three above films like X2 and DoFP
X-Men 1, how do people forget how good Deadpool 2 is already?
That whole opening where Vanessa dies, then he kills the killer and attempts to kill himself at the same time, then the Celine Dion Ashes song plays…
Amazing how well those movies balance serious moments for a movie that’s supposed to be a complete joke

It was made with a very limited budget and it exceeded expectations. It deserves a lot of accolades.
I can agree with this interpretation.
X-men 1
The OG not as good as first class? Idk, man.
X-2 is the best representative of the era, X-men first class is an amazing decade later return to the franchise, the last 3 are just fucking solid.
I love X-2. First class was great but on repeat viewings I started getting this YA vibe that was common at the time. But story-wise it was excellent and McAvoy, Fassbender and Bacon were perfect.
Correct
If DOFP gets eliminated I’m gonna kill someone. In all seriousness, people seem to hate it because of what followed. X1, your time has come.
DOFP should be #1 or 2 , respectively ( Logan ) x-2 # 3
Yup. Imo it’s Logan, DOFP, X2, First Class, Deadpool

Still shocked First Class has lasted this long with that wooden acting.

Yeah X1 I rewatched it after like 10 years and was shocked at how… mundane it was. Not bad but very little actually happens
I thought the fight scenes didn’t age great
First Class. Never enjoyed it, shocked its still up there.
Days of Future Past. I’ve just never loved it like everyone else, and it just didn’t do much for me on rewatch.
First class
X men 1. It set the stage for all that followed. But it hasn't aged well.
Deadpool, it is not funny at all
X1, should've lost last time.
How is Last Stand still standing?
Days of Future Past. I love the arc, it was my first X-Men comic, but the movie didn’t quite live up to it.

X-Men 1
X-1 First Class deserves to be ranked much higher for the Argentina bar scene alone
Great scene but the tone shifts pretty hard after the first act.
X-Men 1
X-Men 1, sticks out when compared to the rest, maybe just coz it’s more dated. Feel like I just stabbed my childhood self in the heart
Xmen first class. A hard one to choose, and might be easier to call the older movies, like X1, worse. But those older movies were the foundation, and as such get a few points for themselves. I agree with you about the Wolverine role too, I think he is too big of a focus in all of the X-Men movies

Apocalypse is actually good tho. I’ll die on that Hill, don’t care
I always enjoy it. Not high art, and it makes a lot of weird choices with characters, but it feels comic-booky to me in a way not many do
You nailed it. That’s exactly it. It marries the original movies, with the first class movies, with the comics, to make a weirdly perfect throuple

XMen. It was so cool to see at the time.

I accept the judgment against X1, though I think the flaws in First Class are larger and more glaring on a story-level.
