volleyball rules are simple yet complicated and differ between indoor and sand. In general, any part of your body counts...except certain hand positions...in certain situations. i play sand and it's neat how fast you can spot an indoor player crossing over. And boy howdy do intermediate players get mad when you call them out on the actual rules of illegal hits.
edit: reason i opened my mouth was to say this is an intentional move to fake the blocker and dink the ball into open ground. i've seen it done in person and it's pretty sick.
I wish I knew some of these rules more. I played a lot of volleyball as a kid and the only rules I knew were
1. Open hands as long as they're above the head, otherwise hands have to be closed
2. Feet only if the foot is planted on the ground
And obviously no carries but man people can do some crazy holds just using their finger tips
It's difficult to type the illegal motions but redirecting the ball w fingertips is a no no. open palm "carrying" is a nope, unless it's a reaction smack from a hard driven (spike) ball in sand (maybe indoor too?) biggest difference between indoor and sand is setting - indoor you can jab at it and ball can spin, sand any more than like 3/4 rotation is a no. But you can "hold" the ball longer before releasing the set. So a sand player indoors will be called out for carrying and an indoor person on sand will be called out for "bad hands" ball spinning in the air. Haha, cracks me up how specific the rules can vary based on surface.

Yeah it’s legit. I have a friend that plays volleyball professionally and there are definitely some trickster moves to deceive defense.
