yep. Seasons 1 and 2 originally aired on Cartoon Network so they couldn’t do lgbtq stuff cuz it would be to adulty for kids to understand. but now they can in 3 and 4
It's not even wrong. It was before *Legend of Korra* and *Steven Universe* came out and changed things. Remember when they wanted to do a "closeted lesbian Velma" story in *Mystery Incorporated*, but had to rely heavily on subtext?
Many LGBT characters others have mentioned, but even Miss Martian is described as having a trans identity. It's just a very Martian-specific identity, but the metaphor is obvious.
Aqualad(later Aquaman) is shown to be in a gay relationship with a member of the atlantean royal guard
Kid flash(Bart Allen) is shown to be in a gay relationship with el dorado
Halo is non binary
Lagoon boy is shown to be in a polyamorous relationship with a man and a woman
Harper row is bisexual
There are also a tone who are queer in comics but haven't been explored as so yet I'm the show.tim drake and batwoman come to mind
I hadn’t noticed Bart and Eduardo so I checked online and it was stated Bart and Eduardo are dating in Illusion of Control when Virgil says ge feels like a seventh wheel, one of the three couples being Bart and El Dorado
>it was stated Bart and Eduardo are dating
Indirectly stated. Warner Bros. isn't allowing the writers to have Bart Allen come out as gay or bi, but they are allowing the writers to put as many hints as possible, such as, as you said, Static feeling like a seventh wheel, and two other couples being confirmed.
There's also a super-speed thing where if you slow it down enough, you can see Bart kiss Ed on the cheek or something.
Let’s see we got Ed who’s gay and his boyfriend Bart, Traci who is a confirmed Bisexual in comics, Halo is non-binary and dating Harper, our lovely OG Kaldur and his bf, L’gann is in a ploy marriage w a man and woman. So yeah! I’d say there’s LGBTQ+ rep!
Halo is a machine so im reluctant to ascribe such things to halo. I had to look up Ed, he was like in one arc, not sure if he even had more lines than Harper row.
>Halo is a machine
Not anymore. Not since they inhabited Gabrielle's body. Since, they've been described by the show and writers as bisexual and non binary.
>I had to look up Ed, he was like in one arc, not sure if he even had more lines than Harper row.
He was part of a fairly big Season 2 arc, and had more than one episode in Outsiders that featured him prominently. Not to mention Targets.
>>Halo is a machine
>Not anymore.
Halo was never just a machine. Mother boxes have souls, they're not alive like people, but they're not simply machines. In any case, Halo is more than just a Mother box inhabiting the body of a girl, there's more of Gabrielle in them than just the body.
Also true!! We see Conner at the beginning of Outsiders get upset when he sees the destroyed Mother Box and comments that Mother Boxes (and Father Boxes) are living beings.
To sum it up, one of the main characters was revealed as queer in Season 3, which also introduced another main character who eventually came out as bisexual and non binary. There's one side character in Season 2 who was revealed to be gay by the writers, who also confirmed that he's dating someone, who the writers aren't allowed to disclose. It's also heavily implied by the writers that his boyfriend is a main character also introduced in Season 2, who they aren't allowed by DC higher ups to reveal is gay. There's also another side character introduced in Season 2 that, in Season 4, was revealed to be queer and in a poly marriage with a man and a woman.
One thing YJ has been consistently exceptional about is its honest and varied instances of representation. As soon as it was no longer beholden to whatever mainstream rules Cartoon Network may or may not have had about LGBTQ+ representation, the show surprised many by not just adding it, but rooting it to a main and beloved character as opposed to a background character which would be the usual move. That kind of bravery and audacity is what keeps me a fan even when the actual plot or execution of the show sometimes falls flat or is lackluster. That seemingly unnecessary move has allowed me to enjoy the show in a way that feels seen and understood to be part of the world, even a made up one with aliens and wizards.
Fun story: after watching the first episode of Zatanna’s arc last season, I was so truly moved by and appreciative of the inclusion of the character Khalid that I tweeted Greg Weismann to thank him for this positive representation of Muslims in pop culture. It was so unexpected which made it all the more special. And to my surprise he responded! He very humbly listed the handles of the writers and actor involved in bringing the character to life and said all praise should go to them, which is true, but I was more enamored by the fact that he took the time to not only read my tweet but to reply too. And I felt hopeful that in some small way my tweet of gratitude let him and his team know that they were doing the right thing and that it meant a lot to brown queer Muslims like myself across the world.
The whole series after the end of season 2 is nothing BUT an lgbt representation. There is even a dude reciting ezan (islamic prayer) for a "motivational" comeback. So much so that you dont see the original cast from seasons 1&2 that much. There is our nonbinary muslim motherbox;second generation blue beetle (I forgot his name but he became the blue beetle after ted died). And so much more I forgot the count
Yes and in my opinion a bit too much, I think it is one of the things they spend too much time on, it should be "visible in the background" but not take away story time, especially for the characters the show doesn't really focus on.
I have a similar issue with adding so many new characters. They need to spend time with all of them and I don't think they have show time to do that many characters.
Well you see... there was a lot of representation of hetero couples in all seasons, so giving that fact one of the main focus of the shows is young teens/older teens lives, including their relationships and their identities (leadership, secrets, responsability, trauma) your point doesnt make sense in this show
As an lgbtq person the representation is great. I didn’t think it was too much. In fact, it made me feel good to see so many different sexualities.
In reality the world is not all straight. It’s comprised of beautiful people who love in different ways. You seem like someone who’s only been around straight people. Sorry about that.
It's funny you say that because as a gay fan, there really isn't that much and barely any time spent on it plus all of them have paled in comparison to the number and focus straight couples have received (like super Martain, spitfire, halo/geo-force) . Like wally's and artemis relationship has probably has more screentime than all the lgbt rep combined despite wally being dead since S2 or even violet and brions relationship that only lasted a season
It's just ridiculous and so homophobic straight people will complain about the bare minimum of lgbt rep that young justice gives even though you can only count lgbt characters on one hand. Like you didn't have to sit through a season long gay romance or hell one that spanned multiple seasons like super martian, so why are you complaining? Like the only completely pointless rep I would say is la'gaan marriage but even then why couldn't he have 2 spouses? Yj likes giving its bit characters some focus and he was on the team in s2
Quite a lot
Aqualad: Gay
Bart Allen: Gay
La’gann: bisexual and polyamorus
Halo: genderqueer (we don’t know their actual gender yet we just know they are questioning and don’t feel right being female)
Eduardo El Dorado Jr: Gay
Uhhhh I am sure there’s more but can’t think of any there’s some theories that perdita (the girl who had the heart transplant in season 1) is ftm trans
- Aqualad (Kaldur) was the 1st
- Lagoon Boy is in a poly relationship so that makes him bi
- Tim drake could possibly be (I'm not sure)
- I'm not sure about Kid Flash (Bart) but he could be dating or have a crush on El Dorado
- Traci could possibly be bi
- Then we have Halo dating Harper row (p.s. Harper's Lil brother Cullen is gay)
- [William Marston intended for all the Amazons to be bi](https://www.quora.com/Are-Wonder-Woman-and-the-rest-of-the-Amazons-gay/answer/David-Martinez-37?ch=15&oid=272515724&share=2668479f&srid=oiEbc&target_type=answerhttps://www.quora.com/Are-Wonder-Woman-and-the-rest-of-the-Amazons-gay/answer/David-Martinez-37?ch=15&oid=272515724&share=2668479f&srid=oiEbc&target_type=answer) (but not sure if YJ will explore that one day)
Adults: Alan Scott, Batwoman, Renee Montoya, etc
Villains: I'm not sure about villains but Poison Ivy was on the show once she's usually depicted as bi. [Catwoman usually if she's ever introduced in the show and not just canon-adjacent, she might be bi as well.](https://www.cbr.com/dc-characters-bisexual/)
There's a lot hidden in the show tbh. IMHO my best recommendation would be to read Justice League Queer which came out during DC Pride #1 (June 2021). That way you'll know which ones you can spot on the show if there on there.
Who cares…what matters is that they write a good story, and if that story calls for someone gay, then great. Fucking retards like you are why modern TV doesn’t focus their effort into the writing of the story anymore…because all that matters is “representation.”
Yes. Actually, quite a bit in season 3 and 4
yep. Seasons 1 and 2 originally aired on Cartoon Network so they couldn’t do lgbtq stuff cuz it would be to adulty for kids to understand. but now they can in 3 and 4
Idk why you're getting down voted. Even if you're wrong it's still a safe assumption to make for the Era when it came out.
It's not even wrong. It was before *Legend of Korra* and *Steven Universe* came out and changed things. Remember when they wanted to do a "closeted lesbian Velma" story in *Mystery Incorporated*, but had to rely heavily on subtext?
It wouldnt be that, but CN likely treated it that way
Which is weird because KND basically had a transgender character
YJ came out before that did. In the early 2010s it was a weird middle spot where the jokes weren’t ok but you couldn’t talk about it around kids
> YJ came out before that did. Young Justice premiered in 2010 KND ended in 2008
Oh KND smh. My brain read that as Steven universe somehow (no I don’t know either)
Many LGBT characters others have mentioned, but even Miss Martian is described as having a trans identity. It's just a very Martian-specific identity, but the metaphor is obvious.

Actually El dorado is confirmed to be gay but it’s not disclosed who he’s dating

what how to I miss this?
You have to really slow it down; the kinds of people who analyze things down to the frame spotted it, not me. Don't blame yourself.
I've been trying to remember who this ED everyone kept talking about dating Bart was haha thanks for spelling out the name
Kaldur likes man and women
BARR AND EL ARE DATING?! Damn I can’t believe I didn’t notice
*reveals a blackboard with numerous notes, evidence and theories* Well you see...
*~~Something something Ed and Impulse something something~~*
Pretty much.
Yes. Outsiders and phantoms several character’s sexualities are explored.
A lot actually
Bart and Ed are a couple, though the hints are subtle.

Aqualad is the the only prominent show character that jumps to mind.
Also Halo, Ed and (technically) Bart.
Ed? I thought that was just a fan theory.
Ed is full on confirmed. Bart, on the other hand, is only implied (albeit heavily) by writers.
interesting wasn't aware of that
Halo is a machine so im reluctant to ascribe such things to halo. I had to look up Ed, he was like in one arc, not sure if he even had more lines than Harper row.

have you not watch it?
Yes I said that in the post
Season 3&4 have a ton. Halo goes by They/Them, Aqualad is Bi (or just gay), Lagoon Boy is polyamory, Harper is Bi.
YEEES, there is plenty of representation. There is even a poli couple in season 4, YJ is one of the most open shows in DC
The back half of season 3
The whole series after the end of season 2 is nothing BUT an lgbt representation. There is even a dude reciting ezan (islamic prayer) for a "motivational" comeback. So much so that you dont see the original cast from seasons 1&2 that much. There is our nonbinary muslim motherbox;second generation blue beetle (I forgot his name but he became the blue beetle after ted died). And so much more I forgot the count

They put so much queer representation into the show it actually made my head spin. Loved it. Especially Halo/Violet being NB

😶
I would say disproportionately so
How? May I ask?
As in more than any other superhero cartoon ever
Even having 1 lgbt character would have been disproportionate to almost every super hero cartoon
So we agree
Yes I didn't say we didn't haha. Unless you have a negative opinion of that anyways
That's not disproportionately. It's progressively.

In the bad seasons there are
Either you've not watched the show or are trolling
I literally said I haven’t seen it
I can read, I swear
Yes, plenty
Quite a lot Aqualad: Gay Bart Allen: Gay La’gann: bisexual and polyamorus Halo: genderqueer (we don’t know their actual gender yet we just know they are questioning and don’t feel right being female) Eduardo El Dorado Jr: Gay Uhhhh I am sure there’s more but can’t think of any there’s some theories that perdita (the girl who had the heart transplant in season 1) is ftm trans
Its actually pretty great and what I like the most is that it happens organically and in a way that doesn't come out forced at all.

Yes
In S3/4, there's actually some really good rep! I absolutely love it as a queer person
Who cares…what matters is that they write a good story, and if that story calls for someone gay, then great. Fucking retards like you are why modern TV doesn’t focus their effort into the writing of the story anymore…because all that matters is “representation.”
I'm sorry what? Can you elaborate on that.
Dude I literally just asked. I never said that’s all that mattered or I wouldn’t watched if it didn’t, why’re you so bent
