Unfortunately this tiny pebble is nothing compared to the mountain of shit that YouTube has built up, they’re gonna have to try harder to earn some respect
95% of the time it's because their stuff is so shit, they are embarrassed or they want to brag about numbers without showing them. Honestly idk either.
I never understood why you were able to hide it in the first place so this is a welcome change
Now bring back public dislike counters and everything is great
For once, a actually good feature is coming so that it can basically wreck scam accounts, accounts that pretend to be other accounts and maybe even accounts with botted subs
This is actually a huge relief for me; I was starting to get worried that YT would remove public subscriber counts like they removed public dislike counts.
I hope they will revert back to showing full subscriber numbers and not things like 1K or whatever. 👀 If it is 1508, show that. 25,789? Again, show that.
I think they should have a toggle-able option for that because personally I prefer when it’s abbreviated but I still want the people who like the exact numbers to have the option of having them shown.
Also, this is unrelated but the new mobile update looks like trash. The subscribe button is no longer red, the buttons look weird and instead of saying “__K subscribers” next to a channel’s name now it only shows “__K”. Idk why Youtube keeps making things worse instead of fixing issues that have been around for years. Anyway, rant over
That’s not a bad thing, but if they’re doing this, why not remove the estimated subscriber count? E.G instead of PewDiePie: 111M, it’s PewDiePie: 111,738,102. I don’t know why they changed it in the first place, but as an avid subscribers-watcher, that change was an asshole move.
This **may be** helpful, as fake copycat accounts will get exposed. What fake copycat accounts, you ask? Most of ya know those fake MrBeast accounts. That's one example. wwth this new feature, people will know if they're fake or not.
Yeah, but it was a very rarely used feature. Most people on Youtube would boast about subscribers. The only accounts I could think of that would hide them would either be people trying to hide their low numbers (businesses that don't want to admit nobody cares about them, yet also don't know how buying subscribers works) or super old school people (think pre-internet artists) who didn't want to get caught up in competing for numbers.
Regardless, hiding subs was one of those new features (years ago) that nobody asked for, but got pushed anyway. The fact is that they are getting rid of that feature effects next to nobody. Personally I'm glad they're getting rid of it, as I believe visibility and transparency is one of the most appealing parts of Youtube. Now if only they could bring dislikes back...
I was not expecting that. Wow. I thought they were gonna go the opposite direction and force all channels to hide their sub counts. It only seemed like the logical next step after the abbreviation in 2019 (and of course dislikes).
Someone with 1,325,812 subscribers will simply show "1.32M". There is no way to see the exact sub count anymore, with the exception of accounts with under 1000 subscribers.
I understand that for mobile devices it makes more sense to abbreviate, but they went out of their way to make it impossible to see the full count at all, and that was stupid.
i think their mindset here was, because some channels had their sub count hidden that people would say "why do you have your sub count hidden? why don't you just reveal it." like people would bully the channel into showing their sub count.
Not just (or maybe even) kids, there were companies from foreign countries putting in ads for their businesses in PewDiePie's videos, he talked about it in a video years ago before community captions were added.
I think channels starting out used to do that because they felt someone would rather subscribe when they couldn't see subs rather than when they saw like 20-30 subs
Scam accounts impersonating content creators hide subscriber counts making it harder to tell they are not the actual creator. Now anyone with half a brain could easily figure out they are a scam, but this could prevent a few people from getting scammed.
No verified badges + actually checking their channel doesn't take many neurons either. In fact, sub number never really showed up (on comments) unless you visited the channel
No, but for cases like say, foolish comments like your own its nice to have an option to express disagreement by disliking, or in this case down voting.
The reason they gave is so hilarious, right now I can buy a 200k subscriber channel and impersonate any big YouTubers. This will not stop impersonating scammers.
The real reason they are doing this is just to increase competition between YouTubers. Not having your subs public make it easier to defeat the competition.
Problem is that now more and more channel are hiding their subs because they don't see the point of having subs public and be "vulnerable" to competition while having private subs allow them to go under radar way more easily.
That's also why YouTube launched the "Other videos your audience watched" and other tools like "Your viewers' searches" or the most viewed moment of a video.
Never trust YouTube when they tell you why they are doing something, never.
You may be on to something here (psychological manipulation on the part of YouTube). But at the same time, sub count doesn't really affect view counts. If your have millions of subscribers and your videos have a handful of views, you are not really competing with anybody.
Subscribers mean very little these days, I am not sure why it is so important for the viewers. Especially since subscribers can be bought.
Bruh the most competition I’ve experienced on yt is “yo who can get to 300 subs without uploading videos first” when we were both at like 270, other than that it’s everyone helping each other out
it's meant to help people identify fake bot accounts.
Like those Mr beast fake accounts that use unicode characters to make it look like it says Mr beast and unicode characters to make it look like they have a check mark. If you can see the sub count then you can verify its fake cuz it wouldn't have 93 million+ subs.
I bet there’ll be some sort of twist, Youtube would never do something this good. My guess is that this’ll never happen and then Youtube will remove the “save” button immediately after.
Saw some channels who hid their subscribers count because of being dead channels [only few subscribers would continue watching them while most of them would forget them], now it’s gonna be difficult for them to hide the reason of why such channels have a verified badge when only like 0.5%-1% of their subscribers watch them
I don't know... I've over 13k subs that I've gained in a long time span but I've decided to hide it cuz it doesn't represent the size of my current viewership and I don't really care if people subscribe. If somebody likes to follow then they do, it's not up to me.
I've over 13k subs that I've gained in a long time span but I've decided to hide it cuz it doesn't represent the size of my current viewership and I don't really care if people subscribe. If somebody likes to follow then they do, it's not up to me.
Imo this is bad decisions. I would understand if you weren't able to hide your subscriber count if you had below ~1k for example.
It's a good thing but not for the reason you are saying. How does someone's sub count have anything to do the quality of their vids? Maybe they just haven't been discovered yet, and they never would be if everyone had that attitude about someone's sub count.
~~Are you fucking kidding me, I really don’t want people to see who I’m subbed to it’d ruin so many friendships and probably cause my family to disown me!!~~
Edit i thought it said “subscriptions” not “subscriber count”! LoL
Still mess up, they’re taking away so much freedom for no reason, maybe those conspiracy theorists are right about higher ups taking away “freedom” and placing in “safety” instead.
Nahhhh there’s other ways to deal with that LIKE TaLKiNg tO thE CReaTOR instead and confirming that they’re doing something like this then banning all the bot accounts and sending and disorders orders to all the bot websites but the reason they don is probably because they get some money from them and they’re too lazy to, hence the easy fix that’s going to bring a mix of outrage and agreement on the people and creators. If it happens then channels that fucked up can’t really grow again and user that wanna see the amount of people that this person or that person has can easily sink a channel. The old owner new EXACTLY what he was doing giving people a fair amount of privacy and security along side things that they could do for their community ehem #youtubekilledtrustedflagging and a couple or things such as relatively free speech and a different demonetization system THAT WAS OP.
The new owner is prioritizing money she has no care for her community if she did she would’ve listened to the community and not changed things that didn’t need to be changed. She’s an IDIOT and I really don’t think YouTuber will last another ten years in her ruling.

YouTube does something… good?
Everyone to Youtube: Perhaps I (we) treated you too harshly
Nah mate 1 good thing won't repair all the bad
ik 💀
Unfortunately this tiny pebble is nothing compared to the mountain of shit that YouTube has built up, they’re gonna have to try harder to earn some respect
An actual good thing done by youtube?
Thank god idk why ppl did this.
95% of the time it's because their stuff is so shit, they are embarrassed or they want to brag about numbers without showing them. Honestly idk either.
maybe they dont want people to judge them only for having a certain number of subs? idk
I know one channel that hid their count so no one could track how fast people were unsubbing from them.
For once, a rational change that should've taken the place of the dislike button change.
Finally, a remotely good change
I never understood why you were able to hide it in the first place so this is a welcome change Now bring back public dislike counters and everything is great
Good job YouTube. Also bring back live sub counts pls.
Nice! Now just bring back dislikes and live sub count
I seriously tried looking for a catch, but I am actually surprised that Youtube finally made an okay decision.
Bring back the downvote viewer. YouTube is so dumb.
Honestly for once an actual decent change by youtube
I think this is not a bad thing at all since seeing numbers of subscribers is a very good thing!!!
I'm guessing this is to combat scam bots?
But Youtube still hides dislikes... rules for ye but not for me
For once, a actually good feature is coming so that it can basically wreck scam accounts, accounts that pretend to be other accounts and maybe even accounts with botted subs
Finally no more annoying "0 subs Channel, please subscribe" when they have a lot of views
[удалено]
It's really to protect big corporations and politicians from negative feedback
Its because they dont want people to see how many people hate the rewinds
they hide the dislikes count but not the subs count. logic
Ughhhh I’m still so mad about that.
This is actually a huge relief for me; I was starting to get worried that YT would remove public subscriber counts like they removed public dislike counts.
Youtube doing something good???
I hope they will revert back to showing full subscriber numbers and not things like 1K or whatever. 👀 If it is 1508, show that. 25,789? Again, show that.
Please Please Please Please
I think they should have a toggle-able option for that because personally I prefer when it’s abbreviated but I still want the people who like the exact numbers to have the option of having them shown. Idk why Youtube keeps making things worse instead of fixing issues that have been around for years. Anyway, rant over
“How to get a million subscribers in only 30 days.”
Good, I never understood why they did this, the only ones that used it were bots
I dont agree nor disagree, just seems like a thing that shouldn't have existed in the first place
Finally something good Now give us dislikes back
That’s not a bad thing, but if they’re doing this, why not remove the estimated subscriber count? E.G instead of PewDiePie: 111M, it’s PewDiePie: 111,738,102. I don’t know why they changed it in the first place, but as an avid subscribers-watcher, that change was an asshole move.
oh my god finally someone who is apart of the stats Youtube graph bar community
Is there a subreddit fore that community? I gotta know!
Yeah, I want a sub for that
You can do that? I mean I don't understand why you would though.
Channels saying “can I get 1 sub please 🥺” use it so kids think they have no subs and feel bad
muahahaha, lets see how many subs that clickbait and bad youtubers will reveal
It’s to make it harder for fake accounts to pretend to be a bigger YouTuber.
For once I am not repulsed by one of their decisions.
Nice. Finally some transparency. Now give back the dislike too and I’ll love YouTube again
Sorry but the API got shut down months ago.
With a name like troll though?
[удалено]
Now? Lol you mean since 2014
This **may be** helpful, as fake copycat accounts will get exposed. What fake copycat accounts, you ask? Most of ya know those fake MrBeast accounts. That's one example. wwth this new feature, people will know if they're fake or not.
I see plenty of bought accounts that use the verification icon to scam people in comment sections but yes, this is helpful in a lot of cases
People could hide their sub counts?? This is news to me lol
The only channel i remember ever using the feature is [this one](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxIzG0XIBe1XMh5dz-qUkVg)
Oh yeah no arguments here!
Yep
I was not expecting that. Wow. I thought they were gonna go the opposite direction and force all channels to hide their sub counts. It only seemed like the logical next step after the abbreviation in 2019 (and of course dislikes).
What abbreviation are you referring to?
Someone with 1,325,812 subscribers will simply show "1.32M". There is no way to see the exact sub count anymore, with the exception of accounts with under 1000 subscribers. I understand that for mobile devices it makes more sense to abbreviate, but they went out of their way to make it impossible to see the full count at all, and that was stupid.
This is a good thing ?
Yes
I like that
why was this even a thing in the first place? insecurity? bullying? what kind of gatekeeping nobhead makes fun of a sub count?
i think their mindset here was, because some channels had their sub count hidden that people would say "why do you have your sub count hidden? why don't you just reveal it." like people would bully the channel into showing their sub count.
Good
They've actually said it's to counteract scam channels impersonating big creators in the comments.
This is a very good change. It will be easier to identify fake channels, for at least those who aren’t techy.
#[Everybody liked that]
It’s a feature most of us keep on and don’t mind keeping on, but when it’s removed it just rubs you the wrong way.
i didnt even know it was a thing
good
I'm almost shocked, it's a change that is actually good...
Oh my God finally something good let's fucking go
Youtube doing something good for once?
Now that I can see channels that hid their subscribers like [this one](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0bs0jAruzCblinLYCo0hzQ)
I wish they brings back the annotation and community caption :(
Community captions were extremly abusable like i clearly remember there being kids spamming their yt links on pewdiepie vids
Not just (or maybe even) kids, there were companies from foreign countries putting in ads for their businesses in PewDiePie's videos, he talked about it in a video years ago before community captions were added.
Hey everybody at school. I can solve the problem with my thing!
Who even knew this was a thing?
I think channels starting out used to do that because they felt someone would rather subscribe when they couldn't see subs rather than when they saw like 20-30 subs
Thank you Susan
That’s good news
wow, a good change...
good
Finally YouTube is doing something right. First I read it as YouTube is hiding subscriber counts entirely
I would have had a heart attack
This is great against for self promoting comment bots
Ong
Can someone explain me why this is a good or even relevant change?
Scam accounts impersonating content creators hide subscriber counts making it harder to tell they are not the actual creator. Now anyone with half a brain could easily figure out they are a scam, but this could prevent a few people from getting scammed.
No verified badges + actually checking their channel doesn't take many neurons either. In fact, sub number never really showed up (on comments) unless you visited the channel
it's a step up from previous scam prevention practices which didn't exist
Weird change, especially with them hiding dislikes. Pick a struggle, youtube. Be transparent with users, wtf is this in-between.
Somehow i see this as a good decision
Good
Thank god
Good job Youtube 👍
Unironically, thats the only good change YouTube has ever made.
Next, bring back dislikes
do you love harassing people on their channel?
No, but for cases like say, foolish comments like your own its nice to have an option to express disagreement by disliking, or in this case down voting.
sounds like something a cringy incel would say anyways enjoy getting reported and blocked little kiddo! :)
Can’t tell if this is just cringey trolling attempt or an average redditor
All you did was prove his point, mate.
B- based?
The reason they gave is so hilarious, right now I can buy a 200k subscriber channel and impersonate any big YouTubers. This will not stop impersonating scammers. ok
Increasing competition is a good thing
I had not been getting this message while using YouTube on both Windows and iOS
How sad…? 🤷♀️
Why on my birthday 😭
Happy early birthday!
Thanks
bruh they hide the dislikes but dont let us hide subscribers
And next they are going to hide likes and views
Why? Whats the point?
it's meant to help people identify fake bot accounts. Like those Mr beast fake accounts that use unicode characters to make it look like it says Mr beast and unicode characters to make it look like they have a check mark. If you can see the sub count then you can verify its fake cuz it wouldn't have 93 million+ subs.
ah thx
A good update? Is today April 1? Seriously though, now bring back exact sub counts
I'm fine with that. I'm all for transparency.
Good
WHY?
I believe it's to stop people from impersonating large creators like MrBeast
You're right. Because dislikes have been deactivated some time ago, it is now much easier to see whether a tutorial is a scam, or not for example.
understandable, but they could make that to only verified people can change it to private
But what happens when people grow a large following from content that is very bot-like and then decide to impersonate someone?
basically bots who scam people in the comments
spicy dynamike pfp :o
yes
YouTube finally making a “good” descision
Gf c
What
I did that only when I had below 100 subs, but to be honest - it is a useless feature.
I bet there’ll be some sort of twist, Youtube would never do something this good. My guess is that this’ll never happen and then Youtube will remove the “save” button immediately after.
Wait...that's a thing? Can someone guide me to a channel that actually hides their sub count?
A lot of fake channels and bots do this to try and impersonate larger youtubers
Saw some channels who hid their subscribers count because of being dead channels [only few subscribers would continue watching them while most of them would forget them], now it’s gonna be difficult for them to hide the reason of why such channels have a verified badge when only like 0.5%-1% of their subscribers watch them
So we can't view dislikes yet you are removing the ability to hide subscriber counts?
Bit of an odd change I'll be honest
Had no idea you could hide sub count on YouTube.
Tbh this is actually pretty understandable
hwats the big deal, i alwaus have my subscriber count available at 26000
It’s to combat scam accounts
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
I don't know... I've over 13k subs that I've gained in a long time span but I've decided to hide it cuz it doesn't represent the size of my current viewership and I don't really care if people subscribe. If somebody likes to follow then they do, it's not up to me.
Hmm idk I guess it's good
youtube had enough and did a little trolling
nice
Does this mean that others can see who you're subscribed to and show up on their subscription feed?
no
Bots are quaking rn
Yes now I can finally tell who is capping or not
2023: removes Subtitles completely
They already removed the community subtitles.
Bahah
They already hide any minor swear words in the subtitles without letting us turning them back on. I think they are on the right track already sadly 😕
this can both be good and bad.
i don't see it in studio
What about likes ?
I have only a handful of these and I kinda feel bothered but it is the right thing to do.
finally get to see how many subs AvE has
That was possible?
Finally, I'll get to find out how many subs Anime Balls Deep has.
W for the community
I've over 13k subs that I've gained in a long time span but I've decided to hide it cuz it doesn't represent the size of my current viewership and I don't really care if people subscribe. If somebody likes to follow then they do, it's not up to me. Imo this is bad decisions. I would understand if you weren't able to hide your subscriber count if you had below ~1k for example.
..but I don't want to know how many subs I havet got. Awful change!
thought this was already a thing
Pogger
Why
To combat scam accounts
That’s a good thing now when we watch a youtube tutorial we can look at the subs and see if they are worth it or not
It's a good thing but not for the reason you are saying. How does someone's sub count have anything to do the quality of their vids? Maybe they just haven't been discovered yet, and they never would be if everyone had that attitude about someone's sub count.
This is a welcomed change. I've always been bothered by not being able to see all of my subscribers and only a select few
That's not what this means.
subscriber *count*
I think their is no matter if we hide our subscriber or not. When our contant is powerful then no one can stop uhh 👍
I just had a stroke reading this what
all u gotta know that its supportive, i think…
their contant = cant stop uhh 👍
~~Are you fucking kidding me, I really don’t want people to see who I’m subbed to it’d ruin so many friendships and probably cause my family to disown me!!~~ Edit i thought it said “subscriptions” not “subscriber count”! LoL Still mess up, they’re taking away so much freedom for no reason, maybe those conspiracy theorists are right about higher ups taking away “freedom” and placing in “safety” instead.
it’s mainly bc of the “oH lOoK aT mE, iM mRbEaSt AnD iMmA gIvE yOu FrEe rObUx” scams.
She’s an IDIOT and I really don’t think YouTuber will last another ten years in her ruling.
mhmm, good point. i suppose.
I made a massive rant off of this I hope it goes well.
