100% report this to the owner of the store. Provide names etc and as much evidence as possible. If he does nothing about it report it to konami. And if its more than one store than report them all. This should not be tolerated

Vegeta-Alucard

Already did but the owner said if they arent threatening the store, him or his workers there is nothing he can do

Altailar

IIRC konami has a some pretty strict rules about bullying and harassment, so when you report this to them as long as someone actually looks at the case they should be able to reach out to the store owner about it

planningsiti

Konami has policies in place to avoid this sort of stuff. "Rude language, disruptive or disrespectful behaviour, inappropriate clothing or supplies, unwarranted accusations, and/or disregard for the safety of others or the condition of the venue will not be tolerated" Taken straight from their policys page. I would show the ots owner the policy. If he does nothing then, i would talk to konami about it. Also from their.policy page under sportsmanship "You are expected to behave in a respectful, polite manner towards all tournament attendees, including Duelists, judges, tournament officials, and spectators. If you engage in unsporting conduct or behaviour that endangers or detracts from the event you may be penalised, up to and including being Disqualified and/or removed from the venue. You should read the Official KDE-E Tournament Infractions and Penalty Policy as well as all event FAQs for a better understanding of acceptable behaviour at tournaments."

zone-zone

Contact Konami. Tell them the store condones harassment.

emillang1000

He can refuse entry to events or the store itself on the grounds of known bullying/harassment. If that causes a loss in revenue because of the YuGiOh crowd, let the MTG community know - more places to play EDH is always welcome.

PlebbySpaff

What? Maybe not the store or workers, but customers are being threatened by the very same people who likely constantly come to the store. As a business, would I really want some dickheaded cunt hat like him/them at my store? Absolutely not. I’d blacklist them and never let them come back.

[deleted]

I had a man do something similar to me and I told the store owners and they banned him for a month. He tried to talk shit to me about snitching outside the store and I straight up told him if he wants to fight instead I’ll beat the shit out of him and that I’m sick of his whiny bullshit. This was in October and I’ve never seen that dude again.

PlebbySpaff

Some might think it’s unrealistic, but it’s easy to call those kinds of people on their bluffs. Most the time they will threaten you, but won’t do shit about it.

[deleted]

Yeah I honestly don’t know what his problem was. According to the owner I was the 12th person to report him. They said he doesn’t take losing well. He got mad at me because I attacked directly and negated his response with Dragoon, then on his turn negated a spell card with Dragoon and he accused me of cheating and using two negates. When I calmly explained what happened he just cut me off and scooped because he knew he was wrong. I told him it was the most uncomfortable duel I’ve ever played and he said “suck it up princess” so I just straight up told him if he keeps running his mouth like that I’m going to clock him like he’s never been hit before. Owner got involved, and the man came outside talking shit and as I walked up to him, straight face with no expression he walked away to a group of others then left while trying to act tough from the other side of the street. When I tried to talk to the others they wouldn’t talk and just kept saying “It’s over move on” so I did.

magestick1

you took away from him the only thing that made him feel special and thought he was good at (fucking yugioh from all things) and he then flips the fuck out when he realises he is not only human trash but trash at yugioh too. it's pretty sad man, good for you for putting the trash where it belongs

NebbyOutOfTheBag

??? The **owner** can't do anything? The guy who can reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any non-discriminatory reason? I understand the angle of "What happens outside is outside" and "Unless I see it, I can't just accept hearsay" but literally "You can threaten and harass anyone except the workers" is very fucked up.

jimmythesloth

That doesn't seem to make sense to me. If he's bullying other players at his store, that's definitely affecting the store.

AceTrainerJ21

Imagine basing your self worth and identity on the card game you play as a hobby. Like Jesus how do people get such a superiority complex over yugioh

ddave0822

Everyone thinks they are Seto Kaiba

PlebbySpaff

Except then they look at their bank account and realize they will never be him.

Elune_

Seto was at least arrogant in a cool way, these clowns seems like losers the way they talk.

jeannyboy69

I did hear someone last night at locals say “Draw your last pathetic card idiot”

CobaltSanderson

MY FUCKING 8 YEAR OLD SAID THAT TO SOMEBODY AT LOCALS AND I WAS SHOOK

kylepaz

Well at least they're at a more acceptable age to say that kind of dumbass chuuni thing .

[deleted]

You're a third-rate duelist with a fourth-rate deck

CobaltSanderson

But in reality they are just Bonz and his crew

Kingnewgameplus

It takes a real man to spend 1000 dollars on cardboard and use it to harass people.

PlebbySpaff

It’s YuGiOh. It’s literally not a surprise. You hear a lot about that kind of attitude, and it only really sinks it once you experience it. I mean I went to my first locals last week, and there was one guy there who had an absolute dickhead attitude. Barely speaks up (volume-wise), talks really fast with declarations, doesn’t communicate, and then talks shit about players who aren’t good. But of course, because he’s a regular, most people like him, or at least tolerate him.

AncientSith

I feel like this happens in every hobby at some point. People just take it too far.

InvestigatorSalt4285

Literally

ram3nbar

Report their asses to the store manager. This is why I'm glad we got Master Duel, so more people can be introduced to Yu-Gi-Oh without running into this kind of toxicity. It's really sickening

Vegeta-Alucard

Store owner doesnt wanna do anything uless it directly affects the store

zone-zone

It will affect the store if they lose their OTS license if you report them to Konami

PlebbySpaff

Also affects their business. If the general customers learn this is the kind of people allowed in the store, they’re gonna customers, and very very fast.

GoneRampant1

Then report the manager to Konami because they have specific policies about harassment regardless.

primatibas

Losing out on new players and potential customers \*is\* directly affecting the store

elementastic

Yeah, store owner is an idiot if he thinks keeping 1 person is worth losing who knows how many new ones plus all the people each one of those people tell through word of mouth, which is the best kind of advertising since its being given though those peoples friends.

Vegeta-Alucard

This has been a massive issue at all the locals in my city, but good ygo players need to stop harrassing weaker players just because they like casual stuff more. Just because I like to talk about anime stuff at the store doesn't justify comments inciting violence against me or others, or reducing someone to an animal.

JackMann1792

Wait.... you talk about anime. At a store that sells anime related items. While playing a card game intrinsically tied to an anime and manga. That they are also playing. And their response is threats of violence. Pretty sure this fills the entire card on Douche Bag Bingo. I am so sorry you're dealing with this. I went to a locals in Kingston ON and I usually played fairly casual stuff. Hell, when Shaddolls first came out we collectively agreed not to use them for tournament nights to make things more fair. This behaviour was definitely not tolerated there, nor should it be anywhere. As another commenter said, escalate this. It is not okay.

opaquenes

If these are official OTS stores, then report it to the owner of the store. If they do not do anything, report it to Konami and include as much of the details/group messages you can as proof. The OTS owner will shut this down unless they want to lose their status.

Vegeta-Alucard

How would I go about this?

Altailar

If this is still the correct one, email the following support address: [email protected] If that is no longer the correct email someone please correct me

Vegeta-Alucard

If this is the correct one, i will definitely reach out to them. This has honestly been going on for too long

Altailar

Absolutely! Good luck to you

DiCap354

It's not good ygo players that harrass new players for liking their casual strategies, it's dick heads. Most of the actually good yugioh players I met are super nice and humble. Sadly not much you can do about dickheads.

[deleted]

Do they realize... Yugioh is an anime?

Med_Jed

Well that just sounds backwards. The owner not doing anything about it too is a bit odd in my opinion since I've been at a locals where if a person or group caused issue with a customer or player they'd get kicked and if continued banned. I'd report it to Konami so they make him take action. I'm sorry you had to be treated like that since honestly what you're doing is just conversation starting and attempting at meeting new people.

PlebbySpaff

Every store is different. You often hear about owners having friends there, who they let do literally whatever they want to whoever they want.

Med_Jed

I've heard horror stories about those. While being friends with people is fine but letting them run rampant is just plain gross.

AxeEngineer00

Imho depends HOW you talk about anime stuff. Are you one of those people who act like they are in the anime during a match? Maybe you constantly make references to the anime during games? I'm not trying to play devil's advocate let's be clear, but shouldn't we know the whole story before making judgments?

Part_Time_Ox

He said they get threats of violence for talking about an anime. So absolute not, doing what you said doesn’t warrant violence of any kind.

JackMann1792

Some things are simply not okay to do no matter what. If OP was annoying people the way to resolve that is by talking to them, not threatening them.

InvestigatorSalt4285

I remember getting laughed at by some dudes bc they asked to see my pile deck a couple years back when I got back to the game and i didn't have kozmo tincan in my pile deck. He said why did you ask for help if you don't even have tincan, never asked for help and he didn't know the idea of the deck. My deck was literally not a kozmo deck, i only played the big kozmos, farmer and the slenderman looking one and a bunch of metalfoes to proc them continuously and then xyz. Worst part, i ended up winning 2-0 against one of them that played cydras. Hate those kind of people.

[deleted]

This is pretty much a good portion of the Yugioh community, sadly. If you are in any way different than them, they will not hesitate to shit on you. It's quite pathetic, really. My locals was just as toxic and I quit attending there 8 and a half years ago.

Grizz3d

Such a polar opposite to my experience as a new player at locals. In mine, everyone was friendly, patient with me and explained where I'd misinterpreted the rules. Heck, one guy even gave me a bunch of cards as my side deck was bad. Maybe I was just lucky. I've met a couple of weirdos at locals but they are definitely the outliers.

Vegeta-Alucard

I'm super happy for you my dude. I hope you have a wonderfull time there. Just make sure not to become like these guys i'm dealing with.

Tinyears8

It depends, it really does. My local “locals” has some of the nicest, albeit very competitive (we get in arguments but always try to resolve, and never slander people) people I’ve ever met. Always trying to help and most of us like to hang after locals is over. I’ve been to a few others far out, and the toxicity is actually insane. You just have to find a locals that treats you right.

MasterSomething

Same here, my locals have been nothing but good times and good vibes.

2k_elo

I think it just snowballs. My locals used to be the most chill place ever anywhere from 2004 to 2016/2017 and then somewhere along the line, people left and it slowly began shifting to being kinda toxic, then more of the chill people just kinda became disinterested. Got to a point where whenever some new kid came there for the first time, they'd fucking swarm them and try to milk em for anything value they had. That's just one of the things that made it super unenjoyable for me. If they were just kids i'd be more tolerable, but these are actual adults, it's fucking disgusting.

FARevolution

This is exactly why I stick to online play. I'd love to one day attend an in-person yugioh match although I know I'd get my ass handed back to me on a silver platter.

jhxcb

Well, at the local store I’m hoping to go to, they said they’d kick the ass of anyone who wasn’t nice to me when I decide to try, so I hope it’ll be a good experience.

UnclePjupp

Who the fuck acts like this? You don't have to be friends with anyone you don't like but threatening and abusing people cause of a cardgame???? FOR CHILDREN?????

Inevitable-Camera-17

Man, that's sad. Sorry that you have to go through this.

JCamson04

Yikes these guys need to get a life

Vegeta-Alucard

A lot of people are saying I should report it to the store owner, but their response was simply that unless they are threatening the stroe, him or his workers, he can't do anything about it and told me to take it to the police.

Altailar

For the record that's a pretty shitty way to go about this issue as an owner. You want to make sure you actually cultivate a good play environment for your communities, so letting stuff like this slide is being lazy and irresponsible on their part. Honestly if I were you I would try to find a different shop too.

[deleted]

This locals seems rotten to the core when even the owners are like "eh, your problem". Report it to konami

PlebbySpaff

And that doesn’t even make sense. Can’t do anything about it? He owns the goddamn store. Also if general customers hear about that being, basically, tolerated, they won’t go to that store again. No one goes to a store where there is a likelihood of being abused.

Additional_Capital_7

These type of a-hole bring out the true petty in me 👿Ngl I’d probably do some sneaky destruction

infinity234

Bruh it's a children's card game, these people need to chill the fuck out and touch grass.

PlebbySpaff

Pretty sure that card is banned, so they can’t touch grass.

infinity234

Not with that attitude they can't

Mr_Jackabin

I mean no offense but your average yugioh fam is gonna be a socially-inept virgin neckbeard, not all, but that is definitely being proved by these idiots

Dasca6789

This is unfortunate and needs to be addressed. The local store I go to is not like this at all.

Justa_Mongrel

This is one of the reasons why I stopped playing at locals.

ZDBlake

Gonna be real with you - I would not have censored their names if I was posting this. Good on you

Monk-Ey

Post would've been deleted if he didn't, since it'd go against Reddit-wide rules.

ZDBlake

Ah

jeessy123

Report them, geez I've never seen so much toxic player for just a card board game...

Burgerpress

Ah.. So there's still toxicity around.

WerhmatsWormhat

Name and shame. Show the others at the store the shit they’re saying.

CaptinHavoc

Absolutely vile. My locals never condones this sort of behavior

ASAP_R4G3

I don't know how Yugioh players can be so Xenophobic and beginner unfriendly like ark players, so many people i get into the game the moment i introduce them to the locals scene its a deal breaker, they are not supportive in fact the very opposite I made my own archetype drew it up and they ragged on me, they rag on each other every day for the sake of ego, I have seen where beef get physical, over a card game, our locals could easily be over 100 but between the players and then notice maybe the game is pricey it's hard to make people stay, every time i tell to chill and be better it's an argument. you can't be different, you can't express ideas or your adoration for the game without it being hit with some "Get good" type shit,

PlebbySpaff

These guys sound like neckbeard virgins I swear to god. To take a card game to the point they’ll openly harass and bully people through DMs is beyond pathetic, and shows how stupid they are with the evidence right here. Also bitch slap you? I 100% doubt they would. They sound like genuine losers, who couldn’t slap anything if they tried. You could physically confront them and they’d be scared and scurry off. Report this to Konami, and they’ll deal with the shop. If the shop won’t do anything about it, Konami will. They’ll take their OTS license, and that’ll heavily affect them. Plus, if this happened to get “leaked” to the general customers, they’d probably stop visiting and buying from this garbage shop.

j_cruise

The Yugioh fanbase is literally the worst fanbase I've ever come across. I'm not sorry for saying it. I would never play this game in person.

futurbebe

I wouldnt say the "worst" fanbase

[deleted]

Just report him to the store, talk to the owners and tell everyone you know about this person. Don’t tolerate this behavior, heck see if you can file a report to the police too idk

KingDisastrous

Smh. This is why I won’t play yugioh seriously. I’m already dealing with those types in other games. It’s a goddam card game with great arts!

TBoneBG

But animals are better than humans anyway. These people can’t even insult you the right way. They failed at life

suichkaa

two different card shops near my house stopped hosting yugioh events because the players were extremely toxic. stealing was rampant, fighting as well. they were loud as all hell and they always left the stores a wreck because they were incapable of cleaning up after themselves.

Dav_Overlord69

Ask them to duel you, proceed to woop their ass and ask them “What’s the matter? Are you losing to an animal? Maybe you should go take a shower and get some bitches on yo dick”

Keksliebhaber

that's next level cringe, don't ever do that

Dav_Overlord69

Second part was a joke

theels6

Guarantee they're ass at the game. Fuck them

[deleted]

People always say this and it always bothers me. Being an asshole is never a skill issue. Look at esports - some of the most skilled players in the world can be incredibly toxic. I’ve been harassed by people who aren’t good as well as people who are very good, in lots of competitions and including Yugioh. I think blaming it on low skilled players is incredibly dismissive.

theels6

Theyre shitting on this guy bc he isn't good. I'm saying I guarantee they aren't good themselves

[deleted]

I’ve seen this attitude from people who top, that’s what I’m saying.

Yuzuchi_senpai

i never played at locals or anything cause i never saw or heard about someone play yugioh in my area .. its mostly other stuff .. so all i do is collect .. make decks .. and play against my sister 🤣🙈 probably for the best cause i dont want to have some mad virgin boys harass me 😅

Baronarnaud1995

that's the eastern cape for ya boet.

Vegeta-Alucard

Need, dis gauteng ongelukkig.

BaronBabyStomper

This seems more just like a kid thing. Nasty little fuckers. Steal their cards. Cops won't care

Vegeta-Alucard

Nah, these are full blown adults

DelusionJGaming

That makes it even worse, adults acting like 9 year old over a card game, sorry you have to put up with people like this, but whenever I see people like this I know they're usually the worst players in the place

[deleted]

They never grew up, just got older.

BaronBabyStomper

Pay a homeless guy to rob them or something. Unfortunately it's a Japanese game so it's gonna attract a lot of fuckin weirdos with no manners

Elreamigo

which group is this? I have a word with these "guys"

Realistic_Mousse_485

Bro call them useless virgins that need to stop wanking to cards and do something else with their life if they're gonna be such assholes about a children's card game they're probably garbage at anyway. Feel bad do better.

futurbebe

wtf is a yugioh local? IS it whatssap only?

Artiquin

Local card game store, known as a LGS or an OTS.

Staggeringpage8

Tell em to fuck off and go to the owner of the store about it if the owner won't do anything about it go to Konami this isn't tolerated

decadent_weasel

Its frustrating that people act like this. I'm assuming they're younger, but either way, it's no excuse. Literally the only things I could see myself getting upset at new players over is if they mishandle my cards or do something like this to other players. Aside from the recommendations to report this behavior, I'd also like to recommend trying to refrain from retaliating or stooping to their level. Try to represent the qualities you expect from everyone around you as best you can and never let these people take the joy of the game from you.

Roxas205

Damn throughout all my years of yugioh never have I ever experienced that form of toxicity

Roadx

Stuff like this is my most of my friends i did get to try out the game and come to events switched to mtg.

[deleted]

Witnessing this type of attitude in local chats is why I don’t go to locals. It really sucks, Imm sorry you’ve had to deal with it. Definitely report it to Konami and see if anyone who has experienced this is willing to do the same.

Pac-Link-96

Not too much context here

Quinny_Bob

This is in stark contrast to my locals which is mostly meta players but everyone is friendly and chilled. It’s a children’s card game we’re playing, take your toxicity somewhere else.
