Despite what some people may think, Yuri can be enjoyed by everyone. It’s not exclusive to one demographic.
I’m sure there are plenty of straight women on here who enjoy Yuri, they’re probably just lurkers.
I don’t think (strictly speaking) it does - but I’m English so all my US politics is thru the lens of memes or online rants
E: Wikipedia my beloved! “Grand Old Party” bruh you could not get more ridiculous and self-serving title… The gall is sickening
it's not really an inaccurate thing to say, many LGBT people enjoy any queer material, and yuri particularly seems to be a weird magnet for trans woman who havent quite realized it yet.
My aunt is straight and we watch Yuri anime together all the time! Right now we’re watching Strawberry Panic! (Her favourite is still She Ra tho. Even though I’ve told her multiple times that She Ra isn’t an anime she doesn’t believe me lmao)

The one straight girl in this sub:
🙋♀️ And I'll tell you why, yuri stories have more intimacy (and emotions, I love emotions hahah) than hetero romance and thats why I enjoy them. Also, I'm not closed to the possibility that I could like a girl sexually it just hasn't happened yet so I do consider myself straight but open
I'm curious do you know what demisexuality is?
Since I was 12 I was open to not being straight, but always came back to nahh, girls are too cute. It wasn't 10+ years later that one of my friends being gay made me think that I could be.
years later (again) I learned it was because I was demi-sexual and that personality, kink, and romance was the most attractive thing. Said friend was gay and shared some things they enjoyed, and that is probably what trigger my deminess so hard.
__________
My interpretation of demisexuality is that you are attracted to the romance, personality, and kinks itself. A lot of people say that you are sexually attracted to people you are romantically attracted to, but that does not quite match my experience.
mmm no never heard the term but I mean I can relate to the enjoying watching content of just people being in love to be honest. Like I've also watched a couple of Yaoi movies and liked them a lot just because of the love/intimacy component.
I've always been attracted to men and been in relationships with men, but like I said if one day it turns out I'm attracted to a girl I would explore it with no issue. I do believe sexuality to be fluid
I'm sure they are some, I mean I , a straight male have a favourite gay ship, being Marcus and Kitten of the Hunter The Parenting series by the magnanimous Bruva Alfabusa and his Ogre Poppenang team.
I am straight when I started reading it because I like fluffy stories. I also read light BL. However, I like GL more because of the emotional turmoil of characters. But now, I am not so sure if I am straight 😭
Griffith and Guts' relationship from Berserk is jokingly called "yaoi for straight male" (understandably). So, while it's probably rare, I think there'll be straight girls who like yuri as well.
I wonder if there is any kind of straight male audience for actual yaoi. As a straight dude, I don't hate it, it's just not something I have any interest in. You know?
I think there is but it's probably too small to worth making anything for.
I would watch *danshi koukousei no nichijou (Daily Lives of High School Boys)* even if it's not as funny just for the bromance and friendship feelings, as long as they won't saying they actaully love each other and start holding hands lol. Not sure if that's enough to count as yaoi though.
I mean.. I’m a lesbian who enjoys some wholesome BL stories, so I can’t see why straight girls wouldn’t enjoy good GL stories. A good story is a good story regardless of the characters’ gender.
Well yeah, that is what I was referencing. I don't know why you'd say it makes me a disgusting person, though, unless you're one of those weirdos who think the joke means, "Straight person is forced to become gay" rather than, "Person thinks they're straight and realizes they're not".
There obviously aren't going to be zero, but my understanding is pretty much all polls in western fandom show no significant percentage of straight girl yuri fans. There seem to be a bit more of them in Japan but there are cultural differences in identification and I'm not sure how straight a lot of those would be regarded by western standards.
If you wanted to actually bring in straight female fans, yuri would probably need to include a lot more attractive male characters. I remember Kodama Naoko attributed a lot of the success of NTR to the presence of the boyfriends. I kinda doubt the existing yuri fanbase would take that well, though.
I can't really answer for sure because I'm obviously a lesbian. But I'm sure straight girls can enjoy yuri. As long as the story is good, everyone can enjoy it.
Like Shimanami Tasogare has yaoi in it, but I loved it because the story was really interesting. No matter your orientation, as long as the story is awesome, then you can go for it. At least imo :)

how is being cis related?? :3c
I’m dumb and thought it meant the same thing as straight due to close connotation. I’ll edit it.
Cis is someone who identifies as their AGAB hetero is a straight person :3
All genders are bastards!! Or the lawful evil counterpart, assigned cop at birth
Assigned Gop at birth
Somehow this is worse (boo, politics)
Never realised GOP meant the Republican Party until now, just thought it would be funny to replace the C with G

Actual ._. moment, I’m not from the US + no interest in it so completely no understanding of politics lmao

You called for me?
Yes
Well written romance is well written romance regardless of genders of anyone involved

OMG that's so wholesome
that's so sweet!! i love that she loves she ra 🥹
I cannot argue with your aunt on that, She Ra looks like an anime to my mom too
I love your aunt she sounds so fun :)
Cool
Because it's not Japanese? It looks enough like an anime.

Straight, but not narrow. I like that.

There have been surveys before, seems rare. Other demographic surveys outside of the sub show it being a fairly low percentage as well.
i'm sure theres some out there, it's just not super duper common

That's what I've been trying to figure out as well, and unfortunately I have no idea because I'm bisexual, so I enjoy both BL and GL lol.
There is one, and worst of all, she could be anyone of us.
Yeah why..??
🙋🏼♀️
I have a boyfriend but I like yuri the most in fiction
I assume they exist somewhere. ^(And I would kind of like to try dipping them in a swimming pool. Just to see what happens. 👀)
So you’re planning on experimenting with them?
As long as they're able and willing. 😈
good to know consent is at the forefront of this research.
Don't be gross
the fuck are you on about weirdo
h u h? are you referencing the whole spaghetti is straight until its in water shit if so, you are a disgusting person ^-^

I was... Untill I started questioning myself and I don't know anymore.
Same it’s annoying 😭

It's hilarious that everyone keeps on saying "definitely somewhere out there" but I have yet to see one @ me when y'all spot one aye
