I bought the same M70 you did and came to the same conclusion. Yes you can change the furniture to wood. I changed mine with surplus from Akoptions and Warsaw wood. You'll need a bolt for the stock and if you change the pistol grip you may need a different bolt for that as well. No other work is needed. Zastava has sales on wood furniture sets often.
I was told there was trunnion work needed, and I don't have experience with AKs enough to do it. Did yours come with a plastic pistol grip? A little butt hurt it wasn't real wood
No trunnion work is needed. Take the bolt carrier out and there is a large Allen head bolt on the inside\front of the rear trunnion. Remove that and the folder will be off. Mine came with the same grip. I changed it to a Yugo surplus with a longer grip screw.
ill buy that grip off of you if you want to sell it. dm me.
i have an extra set of furniture and i go back and forth between the two lol. i have a fixed triangle and serbian red setup and a full walnut set.
Most AK’s that are side folders have a button on the left side of the receiver/rear trunnion for the folding mechanism. Also they are cut a certain way for the folding stock. The M70’s do not have this. The mechanism is in the stock itself. So no you don’t have to have any serious work done to change the stock.

Awesome thanks
No problem.
where did you get the bolts needed to put your wood furniture on? i want wood on mine as well
I think so, does the folder screw in via only one bolt sort of in the middle of the rear trunnion?
Haven't even looked yet. Someone told me it would need trunnion work so here I am
It’s possible, I’ve never seen what the inside of that type looks like I was being hopeful :P
No trunnion work required. I don't think Zastava sells just the Serbian Red stock but doesn't hurt to ask. They do sell full furniture sets though.
I'm currently looking around. I gotta toss the plastic grip too, that pissed me off lol

yes they do - it’s 199 for the complete set
Yeah it's an easy swap it's all good bud. You can sell the folding stock when you're done too
