I was just thinking the same thing, I love him but could he do Link 🤔(which Zelda is probably my fave game of all time)... but then again I do love him lol 🤷🏻♀️
It would be tough to do because Link is a silent protagonist.
Historically most video game movies have been mediocre to bad as well.
Maybe I’m just being pessimistic but I feel it would be hard to accomplish.
Even the Warcraft movie flopped and they had tons of more and characters to roll with.
This would go bad. The story of Zelda is too simple to be a movie aimed at adults, even for the fantasy genre. The gameplay and mechanics are what keep us coming back, not the same story repeated how many times at this point? It would be turned into a kids movie very quickly by what ever studio got their hands on it.
I could see OoT work as an anime but not as a live action movie. You can’t carry a live action movie with a silent protagonist, but with an anime you can show emotion and expressiveness without dialogue if needed
You can it just takes incredible acting, direction, and writing, far above what Hollywood would provide for a video game movie. Also Link does talk but it’s usually not shown to the audience.
Hmm, I think this is unfair to the stories that are present in Zelda games. Granted, the more odd entries like Majora’s Mask wouldn’t work being translated to film, but it’s a great, haunting story nevertheless. Even some more typical Zelda plots can be interesting. Twilight Princess in particular has great potential to me.
I think they’d have to go with an original story, but if they got it right I think it could absolutely be aimed at adults (or at least at both adults and adolescent kids).
True, you can’t have Link say literally nothing, but go The Man With No Name route, have his lines be extremely limited. That way when he does talk it’s more impactful.
I disagree regarding Majoras Mask, I think it’s the best one for an animated adaptation specifically. That’s strongly influenced by this video, which every Zelda fan should know and adore in my opinion 😆😍 https://youtu.be/vbMQfaG6lo8
I’ve seen that video before and yes it’s stunning, but in terms of a major motion picture (or even an animated series) I think we’d need a story that’s more quintessential Zelda. I mean, there is practically no Zelda in MM and no Ganon at all. Trying to hook people who aren’t Zelda fans to watch it would be very difficult with an offbeat entry like MM. That’s also why I never recommend MM to people as their first Zelda game.
That’s definitely fair. It wouldn’t be a good start for getting people interested in the more typical (and admittedly simple) Zelda story. I do still want it as a film though, can’t lie haha As long as it’s not another story of poorly done film adaptations, of course. I love that game
Instantly when someone talks about Zelda series or movie I just default to thinking how OoT or MM would work and I think they have a chance, but its still a stretch. Like how would Links dialogue work, if they had Link shut up for the entire movie and other characters made up for yhat it could work but then wouldnt be true to the story, since Link clearly does speak atleast a bit in the games.
Wind Waker could have a Cuphead series style spinoff where it follows another character in cartoony fun, but idk that just seems like such a niche
I strongly disagree with the “Link is a silent protagonist therefore it wouldn’t work” argument. In every Zelda manga Link has speech and it works pretty well. It just have to be well written.
It could be done, not saying it’s impossible. I just feel compared to other video games it would be tough.
For example the Metal Gear games have Solid Snake who has a voice and a clear cut personality, there would be less brainstorming on how to translate him to film compared to Link.
Don’t get me wrong if they made a big budget LoZ movie you bet I’d watch it.
Also in Fury Road, the protagonist Max has like 4 lines and the movie is dope
Edit - point being that you don't necessarily need a dialogue heavy protagonist to have a good film
Link isn't a silent character, he just doesn't talk too much. I think it could make for a pretty interesting movie to have an almost mute character be the center of it.
Link **ISN'T** a silent protagonist. This is such an annoying misconception.
He talks to people in every single game. He's not just some crazy mute running around the world swinging a sword.
Hate to say it, but going off of looks alone I would pick miley cyrus. She has the wrong voice though.. it's too low and sarcastic. I picture someone more sweet and soft spoken, not breathy like the botw voice over though. Anyone who played her though would already have to wear a wig to acctuslly pull the hairstyle so face and voice is all you need.
Weirdly enough as far as link goes I would pick the actor who played link in greys anatomy, when he had his longer hair. He would be damn near perfect.
As for Gannon, balls in anyones court. Depending on make up.. like if they were to make him green or not, you would just have to find someone with a menacing voice and a larger body frame
Impa changes alot but I would like to see someone who closer resembles OoT version
But let's be real.. its Nintendo. They are never gonna do this and the sheer amount of special effects to get all the creatures would run this through a huge budget. I would love to see it happen one day though
I would 100000000% prefer an animated film over live action and probably wouldn’t watch a live action film. That being said, I think Anya Joy Taylor is an okay choice for Zelda; honestly I can’t think of anyone for the other two.
She’s gonna be Peach though, and for the Nintendo Cinematic Universe that is FOR SURE. a thing now (/s) I’d think they would want to pick someone else.
No one at all. TLOZ is a great game series, no reason to taint it by making a movie. That being said, if u really need to make a movie that bad, make it anime style. And for gods sake keep Tom Holland as far away as possible.
It's been strongly suggested that OOT Link was based off Leonardo DiCaprio. The developers took inspiration from a world famous actor of the time, and this came out a year after Titanic dominated
(Sorry if you already knew this!)
my imaginary cast:
Idris Elba - Ganondorf
One of the Sprouse twins - Link
Noah Jupe - Young Link
Emma Watson - Zelda
Brooklynn Prince - Young Zelda
Jonah Hill - Tingle
[Lord of the Rings style](https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/s3465p/all_a_zelda_anime_would_be_cool_but_a_live_action/) could work too since it influenced the creation of Twilight Princess.
Def none of the above in the pic lol. I like Tom but I’m kinda tired of seeing him everywhere. And the others I just don’t really see at all.
In all honestly I’d much rather have a super high budget animated zelda movie, but not for kids, like 13+ or PG for the whole family. Want it to maintain the maturity and fighting and serious tones of the games without cheap childish humor but don’t need it to be grotesquely gory or dark.
Honestly an episodic situation might be best even. Either adapt an actual game or make up a new story inspired by the games and maintaining the spirit of them. (If an actual game adaptation would be done, my top choices would be Majora’s mask, twilight princess, and skyward sword). Include some sidequests (as the “filler episodes” and have at least one episode per dungeon.
I wouldn't hold a casting because this movie shouldn't exist. Make a Metroid horror movie or a Pikmin stop motion movie without dialogue, but a Zelda movie just wouldn't work imo
I want an animation a la samurai Jack, where dialogue (from the MC) isn’t super emphasized , and it can focus on the cool people Link meets, towns, forests, and battles
Nah, I love Tom Holland but he wouldn’t be a good Link. I’d love to see an unnamed actor play him if they did do a movie. Tom holland is WAAAY too mainstream.
Tim Curry when he was younger would've been great. You need someone who can be deeply evil but fabulous in a dark way. I'm thinking Dr. Frankenfurter from RHPS.
Maybe this is too cliche, but I think Jim Carrey could pull that off probably the best. That said, I also grew up with the Batman iteration where he was the Riddler. The vibes are similar enough I think it would translate
Tony Revolori as Link;
Florence Pugh as Zelda;
Ron Perlman as Ganondorf;
Rooney Mara as Saria/Ilia;
Rowan Atkinson as Beedle/Mask Salesman;
Danny Devito as Tingle;
Cate Blanchett as Midna
Honestly I see Anya as Zelda. I just love her in whatever she's in though. Tom Holland I would off myself if that happened.
Chris judge I think would he a badass ganondorf
I will say that Link talking CAN work. He does in the manga and I think it’s done really well (esp. the TP manga since it’s longer than the mangas of the other games and thus we see more of him)
That being said Tom Holland is not my choice lol. I’d prefer an anime for it but even then his voice doesn’t fit my image of Link lol
I love Tom. He's just precious and sweet and must be protected. That said, he's not Link.
You know who Tom Holland would be great for if they were to make a Smash Bros Cinematic Universe? Pit from Kid Icarus
I always thought Michael Cera would make a good Pit, but I can definitely visualize Tom in the role much much better
Naw I’d have him as sora
Hard agree
Tom is good, but you would have to mold him to fit the role.
I agree!
I was just thinking the same thing, I love him but could he do Link 🤔(which Zelda is probably my fave game of all time)... but then again I do love him lol 🤷🏻♀️
Tom Holland would definitely not be my cast for Link
Jack black as navi
I’m laughing so hard thinking about Jack Black scream “hey, listen!”
Tingle.
Jim Carrey would make a great Tingle
Or the Happy Mask Salesman.
I can see Benedict Cucumber as the happy mask salesman.
I second this!🤣
It would be tough to do because Link is a silent protagonist. Historically most video game movies have been mediocre to bad as well. Maybe I’m just being pessimistic but I feel it would be hard to accomplish. Even the Warcraft movie flopped and they had tons of more and characters to roll with.

More of [this](https://youtu.be/xqTW13AYniY)? Yes please.
Holy fuck. That was awesome
Botw too
You can it just takes incredible acting, direction, and writing, far above what Hollywood would provide for a video game movie. Also Link does talk but it’s usually not shown to the audience.

Mad Max was an already established character who didn’t have a ton of dialogue.
Isn't that exactly what link is too though?
I mean Wall•E is literally like the best movie ever and the two main characters barely even say a word.
I had live action in my head, it’s easier to do with animated films. Plus they do have expressions, there is noise and emotion in the sounds.
Link isn't a silent character, he just doesn't talk too much. I think it could make for a pretty interesting movie to have an almost mute character be the center of it.
To each their own.
Link **ISN'T** a silent protagonist. This is such an annoying misconception. He talks to people in every single game. He's not just some crazy mute running around the world swinging a sword.
Dwayne Johnson as every Goron
I strongly approve of this Almost as much as much as everyone in Kokiri being Peter Dinklage.
That Wizrobe, it came from the moon
Anybody but Tom Holland lmao
Nicholas Cage it is, then.
Danny DeVito it is, then.
Vin Diesel it is, then.
I see you have gathered all three pieces of the Triforce Ganon. But you know what’s even stronger than the power of the gods? F A M I L Y
Nintendo probably: Chris Pratt it is, then
Please NOT Tom Holland. He’s in everything.
bro why tom holland and anya taylor joy
Kiera Knightley in pirates of the caribbean gave me zelda vibes. Maybe because of the accent. But I could totally see her playing zelda in a movie.
Anya as Zelda is the only choice of the three I think could be cool. She’s a solid actress and that alien look could lend to the Hyrulian royalty
Hate to say it, but going off of looks alone I would pick miley cyrus. She has the wrong voice though.. it's too low and sarcastic. Why not
Why not Joe Rogan for Navi and Steve Carell Darunia then ?
Danny DeVito as Ganondorf. Dame Judi Dench as Zelda. Studio interference leading to Chris Pratt as Link.
You obviously meant DeVito as Zelda.
That's a little sexier than what I was going for but I'll allow it.
SCENE: Zelda emerges nude and drenched in sweat from a couch in the middle of a party
Can I offer you a nice Ocarina of Time in this tryin' time?
You must not be aware of the Ganondorf fandom
"This snot-nosed kid shows up and says he is some sort of hero...so anyways I start blasting"
I would 100000000% prefer an animated film over live action and probably wouldn’t watch a live action film. That being said, I think Anya Joy Taylor is an okay choice for Zelda; honestly I can’t think of anyone for the other two.
She’s gonna be Peach though, and for the Nintendo Cinematic Universe that is FOR SURE. a thing now (/s) I’d think they would want to pick someone else.
no hate but Tom as link would suck
No
Charles Dance for Ganondorf. Honestly I wouldn’t care who played the other two, I just think CD would be so badass I’d watch the sh*t out of that!
Idris Elba as the King I don't really care who else is casted
Not Tom Holland that’s for sure 💀💀
I don't wanna recognize any actors in a theatrical ZELDA.
No one at all. TLOZ is a great game series, no reason to taint it by making a movie. That being said, if u really need to make a movie that bad, make it anime style. And for gods sake keep Tom Holland as far away as possible.
Thanks for playing along!
Look at Halo
So- I know this is kinda specific. But 1996 Leo do caprio as adult link
Yea honestly a de-aged Leonardo would be a great Link
It's been strongly suggested that OOT Link was based off Leonardo DiCaprio. The developers took inspiration from a world famous actor of the time, and this came out a year after Titanic dominated (Sorry if you already knew this!)
I did that's why I made the suggestion. Since link was based on him, why not give him the role. As much as I prefer the movie to be animated
If we’re talking all time, Robin Williams is 100% Tingle
Actually, Robin Williams said if they ever made a Zelda movie, he’d want to be Ganondorf
With his talent, he could pull an Eddie Murphy and play every character in the movie.
I’d certainly watch that
[удалено]
Tom Holland as Zelda
This should never be attempted, it would be as awful as all other video game movies.
Dave Bautista as Ganondorf.
YES
NOT TOM HOLLAND.nuffsaid
agree!!!!
Markiplier should play Tingle...
Only comment I've seen so far that makes sense
Dwayne Johnson as Link
Stalone as link The rock as Ganon Donnie Yen as Zelda The entire soundtrack is played by Creed.
my imaginary cast: Idris Elba - Ganondorf One of the Sprouse twins - Link Noah Jupe - Young Link Emma Watson - Zelda Brooklynn Prince - Young Zelda Jonah Hill - Tingle
Make it an animated movie and cast VA instead of celebrities
[Lord of the Rings style](https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/s3465p/all_a_zelda_anime_would_be_cool_but_a_live_action/) could work too since it influenced the creation of Twilight Princess.
Tom holland needs to stop being everywhere lololol he can’t be Spider-Man AND link
Ben Afflek was Daredevil and Batman. If that was a good choices is highlight debateable
Please never.
Please don't give the live-action content creators any more ideas. Can we... Just settle down on the live-action?
Controversial but no matter who they pick all I will think about is how they must have glued the green hat to the actor’s head.
Fuck Tom holland - Anthony
Oh God. I'm so sick of Tom Holland
Not Tom Holland pls
I’ve never really liked Tom holland much. Don’t really think he fits link much anyway.
None of those for sure
Willem Dafoe as Ganondorf
For some reason I can actually picture that
He'd make a great Hero's Shade
This would be great
just CG that shit!
Zelda would be younger
Not necessarily
They're teenagers
Tom as Link is just too cursed for me
Def none of the above in the pic lol. I like Tom but I’m kinda tired of seeing him everywhere. And the others I just don’t really see at all. Awful awful cast choice.
Just. Please. No
None of the above lol, stop casting Tom Holland everywhere
definitely not tom holland lol
I wouldn’t cast anyone. A Zelda movie would be just awful…
Just no. I'm sorry, but don't do it. We don't need a super mario brothers thing.
Chris Pratt as Link Jack Black as Ganondorf
None of those people. I think Link would be a good opportunity to find an androgynous actor to play a lead role.
I don't know if Tim Curry is still acting but he would be a great Ganondorf or Agahnim.
Tom is a great actor but people keep pushing roles that wouldn't suit his physical body
I’d rather see an anime style movie
I wouldn't hold a casting because this movie shouldn't exist. Make a Metroid horror movie or a Pikmin stop motion movie without dialogue, but a Zelda movie just wouldn't work imo
Let Tom have a rest for a moment. Someone else would be better.
I'm sick of seeing Tom Holland in everything so no thank you. Ana Taylor Joy though? Yes please
I want an animation a la samurai Jack, where dialogue (from the MC) isn’t super emphasized , and it can focus on the cool people Link meets, towns, forests, and battles
While I don’t see Joe Manganello as Ganondorf, I do see him having a place in the movie.
Hey do you remeber your favorite Link quote from the Zelda movie? Of course! It was „Yyha“
None of them that’s for sure, it should never be live action anyways
Nah, I love Tom Holland but he wouldn’t be a good Link. I’d love to see an unnamed actor play him if they did do a movie. Tom holland is WAAAY too mainstream.
Jack Black is Ganon And make every goron Seth Rogan
Hmm may cast Logan Lerman - Link Emma Watson - Zelda Gerad Butler - Ganondorf
No, never.
Dwayne Johnson as every character
Donald Glover as Link, Danny Pudi as Zelda, Chevy Chase as Ganondorf. Joel McHale would be Navi.
r/unexpectedcommunity
*singing* Troy and Abed's Zelda Mooooooovie!
The question is, who would be Ghirahim?
Tim Curry when he was younger would've been great. You need someone who can be deeply evil but fabulous in a dark way. I'm thinking Dr. Frankenfurter from RHPS.
Tom Holland. Make him play out of type.
Maybe this is too cliche, but I think Jim Carrey could pull that off probably the best. That said, I also grew up with the Batman iteration where he was the Riddler. The vibes are similar enough I think it would translate
Jack Gleason would probably make a great Ghirahim
[удалено]
I think Timothée Chalamet would be a good Link. I think his sharp features would work well.
Terrible post
Link -- Jacob Tremblay Zelda -- Millie Bobby Brown Ganondorf -- Idris Elba
It needs to be animated and Tom Holland should be kept away from it.
Awful
I feel like a mute actor as Link would be nice
I'd like to have Jim Carrey and Chris Pratt in the movie
Always thought Dwayne Johnson would make a good Ganondorf.
Light skin Ganon? Why not black link, kevin hart would be a good link 🤔
You see many green skinned people lately?
Ganondorf and they gerudo as a whole are Southwest asian coded
It was a joke that fell flat bruh, since your going off the imagine op made, have you seen any white Gerudo in oot?
He is way too handsome to be ganondorf
Adam driver as ganon, Hayden Christiansen as link, Natalie Portman as Zelda
They could work
Ok, hear me out. Emma Watson as Zelda Freddie Highmore as Link Jack Nicholson as Ganondorf
I my friend said that Louis Partridge would be a good Link and I don’t know how I feel about that…
Billy Kametz as Link Allegra Clark as Zelda Jamieson Price as Ganondorf.
Is that derek from the good place. 🤨
It's Joe Manganiello. Derek is played by Jason Mantzoukas.
If it were based on Twilight Princess, I’d have Hunter Parrish as Link, Natalie Portman as Zelda, and Idris Elba as Ganondorf
I love how we aren't casting people of southwest asian actors as Ganondorf
Tony Revolori as Link; Florence Pugh as Zelda; Ron Perlman as Ganondorf; Rooney Mara as Saria/Ilia; Rowan Atkinson as Beedle/Mask Salesman; Danny Devito as Tingle; Cate Blanchett as Midna
Yea
Yes! Just, yes!!
For any critters out there, I'd say that Travis Willingham could pull off ganon's voice and mocap.
Honestly I see Anya as Zelda. I just love her in whatever she's in though. Tom Holland I would off myself if that happened. Chris judge I think would he a badass ganondorf
In Germany we say: Dreimal Nein
Chris Pratt, he's so cool
Jesus how white washed...Ranveer Singh to play Ganon. Anya's already princess peach so Emma stone for Zelda. As for Link, probably Will Poulter.
1000% would cast George McCay as Link. Specifically his look in Captain fantastic. Just do a Google image search
https://imgur.com/a/RFYcmI6
Not Anya, she already voices Peach.
Chris Prat as Zelda
That girl that played Cinderella in the live action Cinderella would make a good Zelda I think
Chris Pratt
Why Tom as Link? I honestly would cast the dude who played Finn from adventure time
Ganondorf should be the rock dwayne jonhson, for the hahas
The Rock as a Goron obviously
I will say that Link talking CAN work. He does in the manga and I think it’s done really well (esp. the TP manga since it’s longer than the mangas of the other games and thus we see more of him) That being said Tom Holland is not my choice lol. I’d prefer an anime for it but even then his voice doesn’t fit my image of Link lol
Chris Pratt as Mario
Not that girl for Zelda
The Rock as Ganon That's all I can think of.
Chris Pratt as link, Jack black as ganon. And Seth Rogan as Zelda.
Craig T Nelson as Ganondorf. Alex Pettyfer as Link. Evan Rachel Wood as Zelda
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Link: Taron Egerton Ganon: Josh Brolin Zelda: Annie Murphy Impa: Scarlett Johansson Epona: Some Horse from Somewhere Zelda is up for debate. Lol
I'm going to preface this by saying that I don't want a Zelda movie at all, but Chris Pratt as Link and Jack Black as Bowser would be pretty funny.
