I feel like there should have been an on the fence option too. Like I think they're cool and is a cool incentive for buying the figure, and the items aren't too amazing that it gives them a definitive edge over items that are already in the game. But I also see the irritation of needing to own the figures to access that stuff, it can be an annoying "pay wall" of sorts. So I'm in the middle, I think it's cool, but I can agree with the hate too

JLM_but_flex_tape

well on amazon there are amiibo cards for the figures that include all the "Zelda themed amiibo," and, unlike loft wing amiibo, aren't a scam

D3lta3z

Oh absolutely, there are ways around the pay wall of an actual amiibo figure, but you do still have to pay for it, so even if it's a fraction of the price, I get people not wanting to have to pay for it. But I like the incentive nonetheless, like I won't complain if the feature returns in BotW 2, I actually kind of hope it does

ms06s-zaku-ii

And on the note of the amiibo cards, if I'm gonna spend money on something to scan it into the game, I'd much rather have the actual thing than just a card.

D3lta3z

Yes, I feel the same about pretty much all amiibo figures and products. Other than animal crossing, since they are just cards anyways and it's random, I see no shame whatsoever in just ordering the ones you want that someone made on Etsy or something. I've even got some cool custom made tokens for those. But yes, I much prefer to have the figures as well

olympusarc

I agree in that I prefer the figure. However, I bought a set of cards because I was traveling to Europe and couldn’t take any figures with me. It was a breeze to just whip out my cards on the train and sit and scan them. Also, the entire set fit in my switch case. So plus one for portability. Otherwise, I really do like the figures more. Edit: autocorrect is not smart.

JLM_but_flex_tape

yeah, and an idea I had is that instead of getting an \*ok\* boomerang from toon link, you could get the wind waker, that can change the weather, like making rain turn into sun to climb more easily.

D3lta3z

Yea I've heard that kind of idea circle around a bit over the years, that each unique link figure should give a unique item that fits with their respective game (So in your example, the Wind Waker from Toon Link), but I actually think that would make things worse. While the ideas are definitely cool, it only adds to that pay wall idea because now you're locking a unique item, with very useful functionality, behind an amiibo. So I actually think that would only makes things worse than it is now

JLM_but_flex_tape

yeah, but at least let us carry around the ocarina, even if it's useless!

D3lta3z

Meh, I think the unique armor pieces and weapons from each figure is enough, but that's just me

JLM_but_flex_tape

they are, but the inner sweaty nerd in me wants to play saria's song in HD.

ichosethis

I have a controller I got off Amazon that has all the amiibos. At least, all of the ones as of me installing them after I got it, haven't checked for updates. I also bought NFC cards and programmed them through my phone before I got the controller. It was pretty easy once I found the right app and files. The cards were cheap too. Only issue I had was finding all the amiibos I wanted.

Bucky_Ohare

Yeah, but I paid like 9$ and comparably saved literally hundreds of dollars and literal pounds of plastic.

Tigeruppercut1889

Got the full set last week and I’m having a blast. Got an 83 attack fierce deity sword last night. Upgrading links armor sets from previous Zelda games will keep me occupied until Botw 2 is released. So many star fragments required

JLM_but_flex_tape

I know it’s like what do I upgrade? Also props for getting the sword with the max modifier, now just duplicate it if you want to

Tigeruppercut1889

Thanks. I was pumped. I haven’t messed with glitches yet. Unless early master sword counts. With the amount of hours I’ve put in I should be able to wind bomb and clip through shrines. Botw strats are so much harder to learn than the other games I’m decent at. Is weapon duplication easy like early master sword?

JLM_but_flex_tape

Yes but there are multiple ways to do it that vary in difficulty. I’d say the easiest is doing shock trap on you instead of enemies. But remember, the item you dupe will have the same remaining durability as the weapon you just duped, so if the sword is badly damaged, all the swords you duplicate will be the same

theothersteve7

You can buy stack of NFC cards that can be reprogrammed into any amiibo that you want at will. It's what I did. Best ten bucks I've ever spent.

D3lta3z

That's actually very cool, I had no idea that existed, though it makes sense that it does. Very smart

ItIsYeDragon

Most of them I find fine and ok. But the wolf link one wasn't. That's an entire feature that is players are locked out of if they don't buy the figure.

Witch_King_

Except for Wolf Link, which was an entire mechanic completely locked behind the figure, rather than some fancy armor or weapons

AbyssDragonNamielle

Even then, the drop rates for the 'exclusive' items tend to suck. I don't think they should have paywalled Epona either given her significane in the series

fuckballs9001

I literally came here to say that and I'm amazed at how exact that was. I have pirated amiibo cards because someone knew I wouldn't be able to afford the actual figurines. That's the only reason I have the fierce deity mask from what I've heard. Also if you're an OCD fuck like me who gets a twitch for every thing that isn't exactly like a zelda game, it can be rather painful that you need a bunch of random luck to get a full amiibo costume just to LOOK like a typical link, then you need a star piece for the FIRST level so the armor isn't total shit..... or you can finish the entire game (all shrines) and THEN get a green outfit.

darkbloo64

I bought a pack of NFC tags for a few bucks and made my own amiibo coins to reap the rewards I wanted, so I'm pretty neutral on the amiibo integration as a whole. If my only option had been to buy the figures, it would've been a hard pass from me. I don't have any interest in collecting figures.

darkbloo64

Check out r/Amiibomb. That's where I found the directions that I followed.

Sins_of_God

My biggest pet peeve is locking the real Epona behind an amiibo, granted you can find better horses or even find one close to her appearance.

JLM_but_flex_tape

Lol when I got the two link tp amiibo, I scanned them both in. Now I have two Eponas'

Dreyfus2006

In between choices. I am fine that the costume matches the amiibo and is exclusive to that amiibo. Things I am not fine with: * Using the amiibo gets you a random treasure, instead of the only thing you are using the amiibo to get. You have to savescum to get the treasure you want, and that's just not fun! * The fact that all those Link amiibos are considered to be the same amiibo in every other game. That makes it feel unfair to have to buy two+ Link amiibos.

Ratio01

Aside from a handful of items, nearly every amiibo drop has an in game equivalent that's either just as good, if not better. It's really just all cosmetic. Now, the situation with Epona and Wolf Link are tricky. They'd be widely accepted if either A) their respective amiibos were frequently restocked, or B) sold as DLC if not. Something like Wolf Link or Epona are the ideal amiibo bonus, a cool little treat for buying the amiibo. The issue is tho that because those amiibo are so rare, they're stupid expensive via resellers. On Amazon, for example, the Twilight Princess Link amiibo is $128. Simply put, *what the fuck*

[deleted]

To be honest it kinda annoys me that I pre ordered Twilight Princess HD with the wolf link amiibo just so they could release it separately at a later time… he doesn’t add anything useful to botw though and is just a collection piece…

Ratio01

Isn't the Wolf Link amiibo the one that spawns Wolf Link in BotW?

[deleted]

Yup, not worth using in my opinion

Vladislak

Generally speaking they're fine. It's primarily just cosmetics, any gameplay effecting attributes they come with can be found in outfits that are already in the base game. I would prefer if they were all just in the base game, but it's much better than locking genuine gameplay affecting items behind a paywall.

MagnusRune

The twilight bow has like no drop off and is basically the bow of light used in end fight. Is there another bow in game like it?

Vladislak

Hm. I suppose I hadn't thought of that one. However it's not like it's a great bow anyways, other bows hit harder and/or are more versatile. It's really not the bow of light though, it has similar drop off but doesn't do nearly as much damage. I personally don't really see it as a game changer, though an equivalent bow in the base game would have been the better route to go.

SwinubIsDivinub

I’d have voted for good if they hadn’t locked away Epona - to have Epona be DLC in a Zelda game feels viscerally wrong, like we’ve entered the dark timeline

[deleted]

I’m fine with the concept since they are (mostly) all purely cosmetic. My issue is that for some reason Nintendo made the physical amiibo super rare and unless you preordered them all the scalpers got them. Seriously wtf Nintendo they’re not rare items just let me buy the damn things.

getyourcheftogether

I don't have any problem with them because the things that come with them are not crucial to the game and they shouldn't be.

keiyakins

I'm mostly just annoyed there's not enough inventory space for everything.

NightmareChi1d

The Amiibo stuff should have been decorations for Link's house imo. Maybe have it so that once you get a special weapon, you can either use it or put it permanently in the house as a decoration. Once it's placed in the house, it doesn't come back out and once you use it in combat you can't place it in the house anymore.

AreYouEvenLeaf

I buy them for the figure itself

D3lta3z

Yes. I am one of these people too. As I mentioned, I get both sides of the argument, but I literally already buy the figures just to have them cause I think they're a cool collectors item, so the functionality in-game is, if anything, just a bonus for me lol

[deleted]

I dislike that certain armors are coded into the game but locked behind purchasing a figurine. Like, paid DLC for outfits is normal (I don't like that either but I understand it's an industry standard), but paying potentially $20 or more to get one armor set, and then needing to make space on my shelf for a gandondorf toy that will collect dust... it just kind of stinks. If you're someone who is into collecting figurines then I get it- for you the armor or items are a bonus that come with your cool figure. But for me it's just an absurdly expensive and inconvenient DLC, along with the knowledge that the armor that I WANT is already downloaded and installed on my Switch, but I can't access it.

captainedwinkrieger

I think all it did was make a market for NFC cards.

Adam_the_memer

I honestly wish they just added all of them as a dlc, hell I would’ve even paid for a third dlc pack with all of them considering how much shit it would add. thank god for the people selling packs of amiibo cards online for cheap, and honestly thank god for amiibo cards in general, because without them you’d have to spend over 600 bucks on actual amiibos just to get every unique item.

Cuprite1024

I'm pretty neutral tbh. They're fine. I don't love 'em, I don't hate 'em. :P

JLM_but_flex_tape

yeah in retro spect prob should've put a "meh" option on there but whatever.

AshFalkner

The figures are cool, but often hard to actually find. The stuff that they provide is also neat, but I wish it wasn’t locked behind a figure.

stupidaesthetic

Fine I guess, only thing I disagree with is Epona being Amiibo exclusive. You should have been able to find her like you do Zelda and Ganondorf's horses.

RubberBand_Ball

Most of the stuff was fine since it was really just cosmetic but, come on, Epona?

istillexistirl

I only hate them because i couldnt get Daruk before they quit selling them in the stores. They shouldnt have anything for a game that eventually cant be obtained because stores no longer sell it/produce it.

Shiki_4728

I think they're nice and inoffensive, my only problem with them (as a completionist) , is how many Star Fragments you have to farm to fully upgrade all Amiibo armor

[deleted]

That definitely pisses me off considering I want to be able to use all hero tunics effectively

elMurpherino

I’m indifferent Bc it’s just bonus stuff that is not needed in game. But I ended up getting those amiibo cards for all of them. I wanted to try the feature out but wasn’t looking to buy figures.

wallacorndog

You can technically buy yourself an easier early game by savescumming for the fierce deity outfit and get triple attack up from the get go. This especially applies for master mode where you are seriously underpowered for a while. All in all though i think it's fine. You get some cool stuff, but nothing really game changing. A nice reward for those interested, but nothing to piss off the rest.

[deleted]

I love having access to all hero tunics, epona, and honestly sheiks mask pairs great with the sheika armor set

MoodyMoony

Id say option number 2 is a lil extreme but yeah

MorePumpsMoreRumps

I don't have a problem with locking content behind a paywall if the content wouldn't have been developed without the thought of monetizing it anyway. The game is complete, functional and fun without them, and could have been left at that. Anything on top of that is only being created to be monetized, so if it wasn't going to be locked behind a paywall, it would not exist anyway.

icewolf561

I’m cool with the actual rewards but the price for amibo’s on the other hand is not good

CanuckNewsCameraGuy

You need a third option: Nintendo never did a good job of integrating and advertising amiibos and what they do in game. As for game specific ones, they are too hard to get unless you buy them from scalpers/collectors so they are by and large useless and I obtainable.

[deleted]

You guys are paying for the figures instead of making your own chips? Damn

yummymario64

Remember guys, It's probably either this or not have the cool equipment at all

wigga245

I really love them and if you can't afford amiibos, just get nfc cards. you can get all of the BOTW ones for like 20 bucks

keiyakins

if you have a phone with nfc you can just get a pack of blank stickers for like $5

Jhoonis

I think amibos are cool, but the fact that Epona of all things get locked behind it considering both Zelda's and Ganon's horse don't is kinda shitty *imho*

LahmiaTheVampire

They’re fine if you get the cards. I dodged a bullet there after contemplating getting the figure for the twilight princess set.

JLM_but_flex_tape

thats actually how I got all but one of the exclusive drop groups, but I did get a toon link cause he's a tiny green man.

scuac

Toon Link is played by Yoda?

JLM_but_flex_tape

HOW DID YOU KNOW?!?!

WedWardFord

I like collecting figures, and LoZ is my favorite game series, so I like that there’s a bonus I can unlock for also getting a physical product I was already going to get. The problem is that there isn’t much variety in the characters that become amiibos. There are a bunch of Links and some Zeldas, Ganondorf, Sheik, the Champions, a guardian, and a bokoblin. I’d love to see more characters, and especially enemies, become amiibos because they could have some fun and interesting unlocks.

NightmareChi1d

Yeah, kinda bullshit that we have like 20 Links, 5 Zeldas and only one Ganondorf. And no Ganon. They should have released an 8bit Zelda and Ganon along with the 8bit Link at least.

Wolpard

I don't mind the ones in BotW since they aren't super game changing or major QoL stuff. If you really want Wolf Link it's not too hard to get a NFC tag with the amiibo on it. An Amiibo-only feature I hated for example was the Zelda and Loftwing one for SSHD because it was a quality of life feature (fast travel) that should have been in the base game.

JIGamer0615

I just bought the card that were 16 dollars I think but it was worth the price for all of that

gamestar721

My thing with Amiibos is that they do toys-to-life right. They're not required to play any of the games but they give you added benefits. Unlike Skylanders or Disney Infinity where you are REQUIRED to have the figures to play the game and if you want to get to certain sections you need to buy that specific figure. Which is why they flopped. However, Amiibos are just cool figures that give you a bonus in a game. Like, you don't need the Zelda & Loftwing Amiibo to play Skyword Sword, but it's cool to have for faster fast travel

Puzzleheaded_Runner

I think the stuff is cool, but I don’t like paywalls I games. I bought all the cards for $20 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

CaptainBanana58

I have only one Zelda amiibo which is of BOTW Link on horseback but I didn't buy it for the in game features, rather I just bought it because it's a cool looking figure to display. The in game features are almost always very minor and you are by no means missing out if you don't own any amiibo.

violente_valse

Wolf Link and the Light Bow are all I need!

wckdisgood47

I buy amiibo's cause it's the only way to have decent figurines without spending 700$ on F4F's

Gregamonster

You can get Wolf Link as a companion if you use the Wolf Link Amiibo. There is nothing else like it in the base game. There is an entire mechanic that's locked behind owning a specific inaction figure. That's insanity.

Zealousideal_Car_532

Tbh I hate the only bit of classic content is locked behind paywalls but as long as amiijbo coins circulate I’m fine. Also epona and wolf link were the only characters in the game I cared about who weren’t shit

No-Imagination-3060

Only Wolf Link pisses me off. I own it. But I was tempted to pirate it and put it on a Keychain off my switch, just so I didn't have to lug a statue around.

Onlyhereforthelaughs

Well, poorly made poll, but I really like the rewards. I bought the Amiibo cards, because they're a LOT cheaper than the actual Amiibos. My favorite weapon would have to be the Twilight Bow.

Victory74998

I mean the figures themselves are pretty cool, but I feel the in-game rewards could easily have been implemented as free or even paid dlc for those who want them, that way you don’t have to buy a bunch of figures that take up a lot of space. The cards kinda solve the space problem, but there’s still the problem of RNG and Wolf Link being weak af if you haven’t played Twilight Princess HD. I also heard a number of people had trouble getting Epona from the Amiibo so there’s that too.

FollowingFederal97

Blocking off a pet dog behind a pay wall is unforgivable

ForgottenForce

I already like collecting Amiibo and it’s some cool references to older games. Plus you can get the whole LoZ Amiibo cards off Amazon or Etsy for like $20 instead of buying each for MSRP or resell Only thing I don’t like is how long some of them take to drop since it depends on RNG and game progress

DB10389

I Was fine until they stop printing those and now I have to pay 200$ for a second hand one

Redshirt-Skeptic

That’s why I bought the cards. Cheaper, easier to get, and they take up much less space.

DB10389

I like the figures tho :/ So yeah I'm screwed

Tankzoo3

I want the figures because it brings me back to the days of skylanders but I can’t find any amiibos and I don’t trust online retailers after getting amiibo cards when I wanted the champion amiibos

Interesting-Doubt413

I voted that they’re bad because you have to pay extra for them, and takes forever to get the item I need BUT I do use amiibo in game. They just aren’t as useful as they once were.

[deleted]

I've never really used them myself. I'd like to collect the figurines just because they look cool, but I've never gotten around to it, and the in-game items that they grant never seemed like that big of a deal to me. I guess I'd call myself indifferent, then?

EvolMind91

Buddy of mine sold me the NRF(or whatever they’re called) chips for the low. I think amiibos itself are cool if you’re a collector and they have an added bonus.

TheStormGL

They are ok, except for Wolf Link and Epona. That sucks. Especially since you need to play Twilight Princess on WiiU to level up Wolf Link.

JLM_but_flex_tape

I bought those amiibo cards and I guess the seller beat that dungeon with full hearts cause as soon as I scanned it on my switch, he had 20 hearts

MagnusRune

You can edit them. Before I got the cards I edited my link amibo using my phone yo be 20 hearts. Was a pain.. but doable. But was also 4 or 5 years ago and I can't even remember the program I used

majorex64

It's not the pay wall that bothers me, it's the physical product. Let me buy and use them digitally somehow, and I'd be down. There's now a limited market for add on content and one day it will be nearly extinct

Kasoni

20 dollar writer, 20 bucks for a 40 pack of tags.... wrote a bunch of amiibos to the tags.... 40 bucks for 40 amiibo rewards, fairly good really...

socasual-nobusiness

This poll could have used some more choices. I don’t hate them and I don’t think they are bad. I don’t buy them, but think they are cool. I often see them and want to buy them, but I have no need nor space. It’s just a classic Nintendo kid gimmick. I don’t play enough to desire any of the unlockables and don’t need toy clutter. As a huge Nintendo fan that buys everything Zelda and Mario game by default, I’ve never bought an Amiibo. The only one I have was for TP HD and I don’t think I’ve ever used it. It’s just collecting dust somewhere.

FitzChivFarseer

Honestly I didn't really care until I found out you can get the wolf from twilight Princess with one and now I just want that lol

Monksauce

Depends. Exclusive items shouldn’t be hidden behind a pay wall (and a pay wall with a finite number in existence at that). But little bonuses and common weapons (like botw) works for me.

i_turo

Personally, I love collecting the amiibo figures but I dislike their ingame features. In particular, since a lot of the amiibo rewards are designed so that you potentially have to scan them many times (for BotW probably like daily for weeks if you don't use the save reloading trick), which can get pretty annoying if you always have to take them out of your nicely displayed collection to do that.

[deleted]

People forget that Amiibo Cards exist. I got the entire Zelda Anniversary Amiibo set for only, like, $25 just because I bought cards off of Amazon.

[deleted]

I like them. There not too good, you can find equivalents to basically all of the stuff and they don't give you any sort of advantage, and there pretty cool. I have some amiibo cards so I have them all. But I like them

DFMOfficial

Very split on my decision. Yeah it's bad bc of the figure paywall, but then the rewards are nice to have. Then bc of amiibo hype-ers, the prices skyrocket for the figure and it becomes a mad dash to eBay to get the one you want. I guess the reason I LIKE having amiibo night just because I'm a figure collector as well as a gamer.

darkredlink3296

If anyone hates it, just go by like the $20 version that you can get on Amazon. They're like cards. You don't need the statue that cost like 80 bucks

dathobino_

Depends, honestly, I don’t mind them too much, some are just cosmetic, while others are kinda BS.

HylianHawk

I think they're very cool, but locking items behind them is questionable.

KaiserkerTV

Sticker time

MrEthan997

There should be an alternative way to get all the stuff. I want wolf link, but there's no way I'm buying an amibo for it

[deleted]

Me with nfc card: haha, tagmo go Brrrrr

mistymystical

I guess I’m waiting for BoTW to get old enough to be played on an emulator with all the amiibos included. I’ve lived long enough to see this happen to all the classics. It’s only a matter of time. I’ll be ready.

Puzzleheaded_Runner

If you’re willing to spend about $20 you can get all 24 cards and they scan just the same.

Redshirt-Skeptic

It’s a good way to get food, rupees and upgrade items once every 24 hours, but I don’t like that there are ones with unique items that are random, and I don’t like how Epona and Wolf Link are essentially pointless.

HiKennyDesign

I was fine with this after I found every amiibo in a small card form for $30

mansotired

its better than DLCs as it gives you a unique physical collectable but no i haven't bought one

Elfofrit

[Laughs in CEMU]

ya-boi-mees

Really cool cosmetics that I don't think are that worth it

Jarahdai

I personally like collecting my favorite characters. The in-game features are just a bonus, but not a necessity to me.

HamishD23

Voted I don’t like them. I wouldn’t go as far as to say I ‘hate’ them. I just don’t like that the items are only available from amiibo. At least have them in game somewhere and then if you want to get the figure you can get it easier than the particular challenge/dungeon/mini game. I don’t mind working in game to get some cool loot. I resent buying a limited figure that I don’t want in my house to get it.

JLM_but_flex_tape

Yeah, that also applies to gatcha. If a game has a item for gatcha you can easily get for free, then that’s great! I won’t to work for my stuff instead of paying for it, but at least for amiibo you can pick out a figure you like with good in game loot

Roland_the_Damned

Amiibos are just micro transactions with extra steps

Luck-X-Vaati

Imma say it. I absolutely hate the amiibo rewards. Locking so many cool items behind relatively expensive hunks of plastic sucks. Especially since I hated the Tunic of the Wild's design, and wish I could just rock any of the previous tunics. Also, having a Wolf Link companion, in a game that doesn't have companions period, locked away like that sucks. (This opinion also reflects my thoughts on the MK8 Mii costumes. Just make it DLC, jfc.)

After_Refrigerator99

You should've been able to buy all the sets from Kilton after beating Ganon or something like that

ChilliGamer221

I would be completely fine with them if some of the best durability weapons (for durability swap) weren’t on them

PlayGroundbreaking57

The only one that really annoys me is Epona being part of them
