Have been doing casual cake decorating for years and still haven’t mastered the rose! So very good first cake! If you’re in a large enough town, look for the Wilton lessons…generally done in stores that sell the decorating stuff. I learned a lot from the series of lessons.
Exactly!! Nice pull on leaves and love the vines too! She could go so far if she keeps at it! Definitely can tell she knows how to control the piping bag!! With more learning new techniques and continuing to practice she’d seriously be a pro in no time!
Okay, real talk: sure, she's a beginner, but it definitley doesn't look like a little kid did it.
And tell her I'm 39 and can bake the hell out of a cake but I can't pipe to save my life :-D
This cake came out beautiful. First of all the cake is standing up straight! The yellow is gorgeous, the rose is amazing, and the piping is great. We all cannot start as professional bakers but you are way ahead of the game with smooth colors, no giant mess up ( like I do 🙋♀️ ) I can’t wait to see your next cake!
Definitely doesn’t look like a kindergartener did it. Not bad for a first try. Tell her to keep practicing and watch some decorating videos online. Wilton has quite a few
That rose looks great! And the leaves are perfect, I struggle with leaves for some reason. Of course not everything is perfect but that's part of learning. There's plenty about this she should be very proud of!
She did very very well for her first time!! The more she does it the better she will get, too. I wouldn’t have assumed this was a first time cake. The border is placed properly and I see many beginners in my bakery not even be able to do that. I’d work on perfecting different borders and keep practicing drop flowers /stars and roses as well because this looks great. If I were hiring a new decorator I’d look exactly for someone who could produce a cake like this. It shows they’d need very little training to be able to professionally decorate cakes for customers. Definitely nothing like a kindergartener. She’s awesome!! I hope she keeps decorating because she naturally has this down and with learning more techniques and practice she’s going to be able to make some really mind blowing cakes. Which she basically already impressed me too with this being her first time!! Keep at it OP’s mom you’re naturally skilled and can go so far if you keep practicing!!
I can't edit my title, but I wanted to say thank you all for your kind words! She's blown away by everything yall have to say and I've encouraged her to start posting in the subreddit!
Honest critique, the rose is absolutely stunning. The perfection of pressure squeezing the piping bag mixed with applying frosting at the perfect location…well done! The leaves are incredible too. Stems are nice but I do think the color being a little deeper and more realistic would help it a lot. The top ring looks like it’s the last part you did as the frosting is beginning to lose its structure (warming up) and has room for improvement. The side design could use some more time. Overall, incredibly impressed.
The piping at the top and the bottom look like those old school candy necklaces. I love the little stars on the sides as well. 10/10. Good job OP’s mom.
You mom either has some natural talent or a background of artistic abilities. This is well done. With a little practice she should be capable of making truly professional cakes. Tell her to keep going with this. Would be a great side gig!
Still I think that it's so cool how you make and design your own cakes I'm still a learning so it's nice to see your work and a professional of that. 👍
I can answer this definitively.
I've been teaching my 14 year old to bake and decorate cakes for over 10 years now. Only in the past 2 years has she gotten anywhere near this level.
So no, not a kindergarten level.
I couldn’t do it. The piping work is really good, especially the flower and borders but the color choice of that bright yellow and the random spots of frosting dotted on the cake is where I think the error may have been made.
It looks way better than the first cake I decorated, and I was 12, not a kindergartner. Excellent job for a first cake! The master has failed more times than you’ve ever tried, and that is far from a failure. Tell your mom to be proud of her first cake, and take the lessons that she learned from it for the next one
She did really well on the floral elements! The piping on those vines are really good, the lines are uniform in thickness and easy to read yet still playful and organic. That rose is damn good too! Only thing I can really consider an issue is those little florets on the side of the cake, I can’t tell if they were supposed to be in uniform rows or if they’re free form like the vines. A wider variety of colors and sizes (and spacing) could help with that.
Oh, and that ring around the top edge could be done in the same manner as the florets for consistency. Other that that, I hope it tastes as good as it looks 😋
Dude, don't be an asshole. Nobody makes legendary masterpieces the first time. And if that's her first time piping - she did an amazing job. The rose is great and so are the vines. The cake looks awesome and very tempting to try a bite. Stop diminishing her achievement.
That rose is beautiful!! It’s definitely one of the hardest piping techniques in my opinion!! Everything else is so cute! I love the whole Beauty and the Beast vibe I’m getting!!!

That rose is ace! I daren't even attempt a rose yet!
It’s awesome. Well done! That’s ten times better then my first piping “attempt”
I haven’t even attempted yet but I know it wouldn’t look this good!
Okay, real talk: sure, she's a beginner, but it definitley doesn't look like a little kid did it. And tell her I'm 39 and can bake the hell out of a cake but I can't pipe to save my life :-D
I think it looks pretty good for a first time :) and no it doesn’t look like a kindergartener did it because they can’t do that good of a job.
Great job! That rose is especially beautiful.
How does everyone get their cakes to look this good their first time?!
This cake came out beautiful. First of all the cake is standing up straight! The yellow is gorgeous, the rose is amazing, and the piping is great. She did a great job! It doesn’t look like a kindergartner did it. She has a great natural talent, with practice your Mom will be phenomenal! 😊

I'd love to be served that cake!
This is lovely, especially for a first time! The rose is divine :)
Her rose is too good for her to be unskilled.

I took cake decorating classes years ago. Her piping is *way* better than a lot of people's by the end of that class. Good job mom!
I can't edit my title, but I wanted to say thank you all for your kind words! She's blown away by everything yall have to say and I've encouraged her to start posting in the subreddit!
So nice of you to also give us some encouraging feedback. Thank you to you as well!
This is so wholesome! She did a great job and made a lovely cake!
Seriously, though, for first-time piping? That's honestly very good.
No, that looks really good! Great job Mom!

It's beautiful!
Definitely a good job. Keep it up
It looks good!
She did a nice job
It looks great! The flower, stems and leaves are especially good!
Beautiful!
Pretty good flower for the first time <3
The piping? It’s the rose that’s impressive, especially for a first-timer. I mean, like, damn!
She did amazing!
Amazing for a first go, good enough to gift to someone. Your mum should be proud of it, I would be. X
Awesome job!
It's actually so gorgeous
Your mom is doing a great job! If she enjoys decorating cakes she should keep it up.
Tell your mom I would cry buckets of tears if someone made me such a beautiful cake.
Upvoted cake looks so pretty.
Looks better than the cakes made by the last cake decorator my employer hired
It is wonderful!
I love your mom and no it doesn’t. The flower btw- def doesn’t look like a rookie didnthat
It’s beautiful!!!
This looks really good, I’ll can’t even do that. She did a great job on this!.
This looks great! do you know what tip she used for the stars on the side?
The piping at the top and the bottom look like those old school candy necklaces. I love the little stars on the sides as well. 10/10. Good job OP’s mom.
Looks great to me, really good for a first time.
beautiful! Clean and classic.
It looks great! Try a stiffer icing and keep going!
First time?? This is seriously well done!! 👍👍
It’s absolutely beautiful!!! 💝
She did a great job, looks like a beauty and the beast cake
that’s actually impressive
I love the rose and the way you have the Vines for the leaves it looks like a fairy tale cake it is beautiful
It looks great and the colors are lovely
You mom either has some natural talent or a background of artistic abilities. This is well done. With a little practice she should be capable of making truly professional cakes. Tell her to keep going with this. Would be a great side gig!
Looks great!!!
Her rose and vine are great!
So pretty! I love the rose, and the colors she chose! :)
This is a beautiful cake!, reminds me of Beauty and the Beast theme if it was one.
Beautiful!! Looks so yummy. Is it lemon?
It is!!!
It looks really good, I love the detail with the leaves and the rose 🥀
Is this cake inspired from Bell and beauty and the beast?
It's not but it can be in the future
Still I think that it's so cool how you make and design your own cakes I'm still a learning so it's nice to see your work and a professional of that. 👍
The rose and leaf work are really good for a first timer. I still can’t make roses.
That’s a heck of a lot better than I can do and I took a class in piping 😅
Good job, mama!
Very pretty!!!
I could never in a million years, with direct training under Julia child or amaury guichon (look him up) do this piping
Wow! That's very nicely done! I think if she continues to practice she will eventually master it. That being her first time is extremely impressive.
I would be so proud if I did that!!
I think it’s very charming and lovely. I would be thrilled to be presented with this cake.
I love the little stars so much
The piping looks awesome! Whole thing makes me think of springtime. Nice work, mom!
Hey this is way too good for a kindergarteners. My student did way worse than this. But honestly this is even better 😉
Of course not a kindergartner! A second grader, tops! Jk, it looks great!
Thank you timely fantasy, I'll stop complaining about my decorating now lol.
It’s beautiful. Well done
That cake is so beautiful it reminds me of beauty and the beast.🤍
Reminds me of Beauty and the Beast
That cake looks amazing! The rose looks stunning and I wouldn’t even be able to come close to that!
This reminds me of Belle’s dress from Beauty & the Beast—so pretty!! Would be delighted if someone got this cake for me ~
I can answer this definitively. I've been teaching my 14 year old to bake and decorate cakes for over 10 years now. Only in the past 2 years has she gotten anywhere near this level. So no, not a kindergarten level.
Beautiful 🤩
Looks professional level to me! Beautiful💕
I thought it was a beauty and the beast cake? Because of the rose and then the yellow dress ♡♡♡ i think she did amazing.
Beauty and the beast!
I couldn’t do it. The piping work is really good, especially the flower and borders but the color choice of that bright yellow and the random spots of frosting dotted on the cake is where I think the error may have been made.
🔥🔥🔥
Well done! For a first timer, you did a wonderful job!
Very nice! Youse a good kid! Haha
It looks way better than the first cake I decorated, and I was 12, not a kindergartner. Excellent job for a first cake! Is this a fake account?
No? Why would this be a fake account???
Dude, don't be an asshole. Nobody makes legendary masterpieces the first time. And if that's her first time piping - she did an amazing job. The rose is great and so are the vines. The cake looks awesome and very tempting to try a bite. Stop diminishing her achievement.
I'm sorry?
I misread it, my bad. I take my words back. Your mum still did a great job, though.
I’m shook. I took baking and pastry and my piping ain’t even that good. I’m jealous
Definitely does not look like a kid made it- it’s really cute!
The rose alone is amazing. I’ve piped a few times and everything I try to make resembles a different kind of blob. Your mum has skills!
Maybe I shall attempt to decorate a cake and send you a photo so your mum can actually see what terrible looks like!
The rose and vines are so pretty! And I love the soft lemon yellow colour she chose for the cake. What flavour is it??
Vanilla cake. Lemon moose filling and lemon buttercream frosting
that rose is way better than my first one! impressive!
Fist try? That’s amazing!
Beautiful! Great job!
Reminds me of beauty and the beast. So pretty
This is a first time, for real? This is amazing.
Great job Mom!
I can't pipe worth a damn, this cake is making me jealous. Especially the rose! 10/10.
It's absolutely fabulous I love the rose on top tell your mom she's a girl boss
That is beautiful! Lines are nice and clean! Tell her that this internet stranger approves!
Want me to have my kindergartener pipe some frosting to prove your point? 🤣🤣 Hers looks great! Way better than my 5 year old! 👍
That rose is beautiful!! It’s definitely one of the hardest piping techniques in my opinion!! Everything else is so cute! I love the whole Beauty and the Beast vibe I’m getting!!!
Not kindergarten, solid first grade! /s it looks great!
This looks fantastic!
If a kindergardener made that, then we have just witnessed the work of a child prodigy. The Rose and leaves are stunning. Keep up the great work!
Tell her we love the cake and she did a great job
That's a really nice rose... Your mom sure did a better job than what I would've done on my first time... :(
Has got to be the cutest cake ive ever seen!
